  1. Hi Have an annoying wierd problem that the plastic covers on the speedo and rev counter seem to be smeared as though someone has tried to clean the inside of them badly !!!! Now when i try to pull the covers off the clocks they feel as though they would pop off with a bit of encouragement, is the only way to get the covers off to break them off carefully then re glue them down afterwards ? Thanks for any help

Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone can help me try to diagnose the issues I'm having with my DT. First let me start by saying I have very little knowledge with engines in general so I may end up just taking this to someone who knows what they are doing. I bought it last year but have only started riding it recently. It came with a full dep fitted, the rev limiter earthed and the snorkel removed from the airbox. These are the only visible changes and I'm unsure of if he/she has messed with the reeds, ypvs or carb. Anyway my problem is the bike isn't running smoothly at all. 1st minor issue: Cold start(not that it's exactly cold at this time of year): It start…

Managed to change my reed petals to new hy-tech race carbon ones today, both exactly the same thickness and size, but I'd say slightly stiffer than standard ones, the thing is when I went to the exploded view on the parts page, the standard petals show different numbers and prices the same with the metal stoppers, does anybody know why this is, as I've looked and cant see any difference whatsoever. 2 = REED VALVE @ £14.43 3 = STOPPER, REED VALVE @ £6.21 6 = REED VALVE @ £13.85 7 = STOPPER, REED VALVE @ £5.92 Have I missed something or what, is there a difference on each side?

Any body out there recently taken out their inner cables for the Speedo and Rev cable? took mine out today, to clean them and am buggered if I can remember which way round they go, there is a difference in the ends as one end if you feed it through the top stops due to a tiny washer, and the square last inch of the inner cable, or if you feed it through from the bottom of the outer cable stops leaving about an inch of square to sit in the engine for the rev cable, or speedo mechanism on the wheel for the speedo cable, can't find owt in the manual, anybody have an idea? (cough cough, OG)

Hi all, I bought a 2000 thundercat the other day which had been layed up for about a year. At the moment it starts and idles fine but when you rev it its gags and sputters at about 8000rpm and its the same whilst riding it, very sketchy. My best guess is the carbs need a good clean out (unless anyone else can think of summin else it might be) which leads my to my next question. I can get a nice pair of carbs from a 96 model that are clean and was wondering if they'll fit as it will save me the cost of buying 4 carb gaskets. Amy help/advice appreciated.

Hi all, I have just bought an RS 100 as a restoration project. Unfortunately, the fuel pipes and oil pipes are in a bit of a mess. Not many are connected at all, and being new to bikes im at a loss as to how to connect them - thats assuming theyre all present in the first place! A bit disappointing as i cant determine if its even a runner yet! Does any body have any ideas how they all connect up? are there any diagrams anywhere that i can follow? Any help at all on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Dave

  10. Hi All! I have a slight steering wobble when I reach 40mph and faster. Could this be wheel bearings, balance issue, tire issue or something else. It is not to bad, but any suggestions or help would be great. This is on a 1990 virago 535. The tire is inflated to the correct pressure. I get the tire pressure of both tires before every ride.

Hi folks, Hope someone heere can help point me in the reight direction. My bike has started to get quite hesitant at times, misfiring and such. I've checked my plugs and ignition coils they all check out ok, recent new jets in the carb and full carb service carried out, problem continued before and after this also. The fault was more intermittent at the start but now has become less so. Havign a read around people seem to suggest it might be a faulty TPS or fuel pump, can anyone advise on how to diagnose either of these. The fuel pump does seem quite noisey so this might be a hint. If it does turn out to be the TPS, can anyone advise where to get one from …

Bike: 2001 DT230, very low mileage Problem: blows a stupid amount of smoke for maybe a minute or two when starting from cold, then it's OK. This actually starts happening not instantly on start - maybe after 10 or 20 seconds. It happens with or without choke. Very bad look - it's quite embarrassing and unclean. Can't be doing the bike much good either, although so far the plug is not fouled at all. Doesn't seem to have excessive smoke when warm, including starting. Have changed the air filter. It's all bog standard setup. I'm wondering if the oil might be pooling somewhere in the pump or elsewhere? Is the amount of oil feed supposed to change with engine temp? If…

I'm 5 days Into owning my first bike and am loving it. The last thing I want to do is have it stolen and I'm taking no chances. The steering lock seems like a good idea to complimemt my locks however despite following the instruction in the manual to the letter I can engage it. With the bars turned to the right I depress the key in the ignition and turn to the 'lock' position however I cannot remove the key and the steering is not locked. Any ideas?

Hi Guys think i posted this in wrong area so posted again I am sorry if this is covered else where on this forum, but i have just recently purchased a RS100 for a restoration project. Trouble is that although i have now got it running well, the electrics were shot. After buying a new battery the electrics worked for about 30 minutes before packing up never to work again. I have now completely rewired where necessary according to the haynes manual, but although my battery has power, as soon as i connect it to the rectifier it doesn't read any voltage. also the power isn't getting to the ignition. The bike still runs but i have no lights or power to the rest of t…

  19. This is probably a such a simple fix I'm almost too embarrassed to ask but here goes. After several bits of advice from various members, I finally tracked down all the missing parts I need to tart up the old girl so hopefully I'm only a couple of weeks away from actually getting to have a ride. Anyone who has read my earlier blah blahs and waffle would know that several parts were missing from my bike as it was previously a field bike that was slap dashily put back on the road. One of the parts that was missing was the spring from the rear brake pedal. All I have attached to the pedal is the long spring to trigger the rear brake light. All my missing b…
