Hi folks. Working on my 1981 Virago xv750 and the starter solenoid is fried. broke both wires inside it. So i check around and the one for my bike is 115 bucks. ouch. So i look further and i find that for the 1981 xj750 the starter solenoid is only 70. I'm wondering, same size engine, just a different shape, how likely is it that it's the same size starter and solenoid and can be interchanged to save a buck? Thanks for the help.

Hi everyone, hope you can help on this one as it seems to be causing a major problem with the bloke I have trying to fix it. The cam chain is in need of replacing but the mechanic is having major issues locating the correct one for the xvs 125 Dragstar. He has sent away for a few already and they just dont seem to fit. He needs a flat duplex chain with 100 links (or more as he can reduce it) and one that can be split so he can feed it through and not have to take the whole engine apart, as he doesnt want to do this. He has already done work on the bike and this is the last thing. Problem is, its in bits now and no other garage will take it on. Does anyone ha…

Hi, I hope this is the right place to put this ? I have a 95 Virago and the bike will start and run for a while and then it will only roll over slowly when tring to start again . I checked the voltage when running it starts about 12.25 at idle and when I take the r.p.m.s up to 2000 it jumps around from 12. to 14.75 and back it does not hold at any voltage ? I have a new gell battery in it and just had it in the shop they replaced the rect/reg and sent it back , but it is still doing the same thing so I took it back but wanted any help I can get. So I joined here and hope I am in the right spot for this post !

my bike runs great for 2 miles or 15 minutes in garage then stalls. It has new batter and I replaced the regulator think it was the problem. After it cool for 20 to 30 minutes it starts and runs good again. I wonder if it is the pickup or IC box.

Hi fellas , I had a spring made for my XT600 Tenere 34L rear shock , but after just a little off roading the coil seems to have compressed and is now much softer . I guess it has compressed somewhat and now doesn't decompress back to what is was . With little off roading I mean a couple of kilos on the trail .I spoke to the guy that made it and he says that the EN48 spring steel they use is sometimes not of the greatest quality and this can happen .According to a spring rate calculator I found online the coil is now at 524 lbsf/in . Does anyone know what the spring rate was on the original Tenere shock ? I was thinking of reducing the active coils down 1 coil to 8 whic…

Help, Does anybody know what size screw holds the Ignition starter switch housing together from behind and below? - it looked like a round head machine screw before it fell onto the lawn,,,,,,,,,,,,, And do you have one to send to a Londoner? (Two might be a good idea, as I am fairly clumsy.)

My sr125 had become very hard to start, was oiling the plug, bogging on max throttle and blowing a lot of blue smoke - a compression test showed 75psi (!!) warm, rising to 115 with a squirt of oil in the cylinder. So the rings are suspect. Stripped it down, and made some measurements... Bore: 57.02mm top and bottom, all directions.Fair enough, std is 57.00-57.10. Piston: 56.48 at the top, 56.88 at the bottom. Std is 56.945 - -oops! it gets better.... rings: end gap, top ring >0.5mm. Std is 0.15-0.35; 2nd ring 0.45mm, std is 0.15-0.35mm. Totally phooked, it would seem. Piston bore clearance is a thumbnail, greater than the acceptable 0.065mm. The bore …

Hey everyone! I am needing to buy a R/H rear seat panel for my yzf r125 and have been quoted 115 pound through a dealer, I have spotted one on ebay for 60 quid that is exactly what I need, except it is a 2010 make and has no stickers. Any advice on whether it will fit my bike? I am not too concerned over the colour coding at the moment as I may get a re-spray for the bike once restoration is done.

Hi, just got a virago 125 and found the rear brake padal ends up well above the footrest, the problem is the stop is loose on the frame and needs rewelding. done lots of welding on cars and plant but is there anything else apart from the battery that needs disconecting to stop any damage caused by a mig welder. cheers phil.....

Hey guys, A bit of help if you can. I had a crash on Thursday, riding to work at 3 in the morning along a narrow two lane road when I rounded a bend at 30 mph and met a car coming head on in to me. It was so far over I just about avoided it but had to bin the bike or hit a wall. Luckily the damage is cosmetic, sadly the driver failed to stop, no cctv etc so no hope of catching him. So I have to pay out of my own pocket. I have just bought a tail tidy and rear tail fin that I need, and it looks like I will have to bite the bullet and buy from a dealer the right side rear tail which is about 150 quid, but should get it lower. I need to get a rear seat or cover, und…

I have just bought a TT600K that I am going to restore , and I was wondering whether I am supposed to inflate the gas canister that's linked to the rear shock . It has a valve in the back . If so what pressure ? I know that the forks can be inflated to max 17psi , but according to the book the rear shock canister contains nitrogen at 284psi. Is this right , and if so what is the meaning of the valve ?
