Hi Can I have some pointers to help me with my latest problem in getting my DT100 on the road? Having got it up and running (well enough to get its MOT and able to be used at low revs) it refused to pull from mid range, 30 mph max. I have now looked at the possible reasons I have stripped out the exhaust and decoked it, lots of carbon, but no difference on the road. I sent off the carb to be ultrasonically cleaned and it has been returned re set, with new jets etc I also cleaned out the tank and fuel filter at the same time Now having re fitted the carb it will not start, noithing, no sign of life. I have a healthy …

Hi guys My bike seems to be showing classic signs of running lean. The engine runs fine and smooth when its cold, but as the engine warms up, 1. the gears start to get cluncky 2. when hot and stationary, the bike wants to move away even if the clutch is fully depressed. 3. When I accelerate, the bike stutters and finally 4. The engine feels noticeably warmer than before. Is there any way to adjust the fuel richness on the carb without re jetting? Is re jetting a complicated procedure for a bike mechanic in Vietnam? Or do you just take the old one out and put the next size up in? I need to educate myself properly on this. Can you help? I had to…

  6. Hi all, Not wanting to pay the $2000+ dollars that it will cost me for Yamaha parts to rebuild my smokey YZF750, I want to use the Wiseco 1040cc big bore kit. Wiseco used to list a kit for the YZF750 but not any more. My question is this: is the FZR1000/Thunderace piston kit compatible with the YZF? I am suspicious that there might be some pitfall (inadequate oil pump capacity perhaps), since Wiseco would surely just add 'YZF750' to the list of bikes the kit can be used on. Alternatively, are there any US Yamaha dealers willing to post to Australia? Thanks!

  8. Hi guys, I've had my Thundercat now for about 4 years and she's basically been a fun tool, but she is a little worse for wear of late. So I want to show her some love... I'm looking at converting the Swingarm to a single sided, raising or possibly replacing the back end and bringing the exhaust up under the seat. My question is in relation to the swing arm conversion.. has anyone done this? do ye have any tips? and does anyone have an idea of what single sided swingarms would work well with the Cat. I am pretty sure the dimensions of my swingarm are the same or very close to the FZR in which case I don't want to look at the VFR Swingarm as I don't wan…

  11. Hello. Appreciate its an old bike, but I'd be appreciative if anyone can help with my problem. I am in the process of restoring an '83 / Y plate Yamaha DT125MX. I have taken the clutch cover off to flat it and paint it, and have disconnected the oil pump. Whilst it was off, I checked the pump and found the reason why the previous owner had run it on premix. The oil pump was seized. I bought another oil pump from a DT175MX on EBAY. The seller said that it was also for the DT125MX. Having painted the panel, I am now in the process of putting the pump back in the casing, and putting the casing back on. I have checked the new pump, and it is not seized, and the ge…

Hi folks, Had my SR125 for a fortnight now and it's just started to give me some troubles. After riding 20 miles to work without any problem I went to restart the bike after a quick stop and nothing! Turn on the iginition and no lights or anything, had to bump it to get going. I've had the battery out, topped it up and gave it a trickle charge for 14 hours but still the same issue. I have been working on the wires in the light and speedo units but only to tidy them up (i.e. proper connectors, soldering and taped up) due to a previous owners poor work. Since doing this work and before this happened I have had the bike running so I am fairly confident my tinkeri…

Hi, This is directed to either oldgit/neo/cynic/anyone with experience on the topic Is it normal for carbon to form a layer on the head and piston crown within 600km of operation? Could it be that a)premix as at 20:1 is too much oil-plug chop revealed medium brown color, what should premix ratio be for a DT175? b)Main jet too large=160, idle jet=25-Normally main jet=140, idle jet=22.5 c)Unleaded fuel to be used rather than Lead Replacement Fuel Any advice on above welcome.

  15. Had a good chat at the YOC meet with OG about engine bearings as I was looking to but original Suzi ones. He did mention a couple of company names of quality bearings but I have forgotten them (age) so if you would like to remind me please OG! Anyway, what is your opinion about pattern bearings, not cheap rubbish but better quality ones? The original bearings and seals for the TS are £206 which I don't mind providing that is the best option and I am not forever having to strip the engine and buy another gasket set, but is that the best option in your opinion? This assumes that the bearings are available and I don't get some originals and some patterns anyway. …

  16. I want to lower my DT125R and have seen a a few lowering kits on ebay mostly reducing height by around 38mm but one kit lowers by 50mm I am wondering is there a maximum the bike can be lowered as I have only seen one 50mm kit by lust racing. What effect, if any, does this have on performance or wear on the bike. Cheers

  17. Hey guys. I've recently hit a tree stump on my 1986 XT 400 and broken the gear shifter shaft (luckily I have another XT 400 for spares). The shaft has broken flush with the motor, so no way to reattach (weld etc). I have searched and searched for a way to change this, does anyone know how to change the shaft? The only way I can see is to drop the whole motor out and disassemble the top end to be able to even get to where I shifter shaft is, I've asked a few people and all they say is "You should be able to just slide it out" however it is not this simple. Any help at all would be appreciated, Cheers, Ricky.

Hey, So i've had to replace the battery in the Dragstar as the other one was swollen, smelling of sulphur and flat. (figured none of these - or exploding for that matter- are good.) I've been left batteryless for 5-6 days and today as I fitted the new battery I accidently touch the allan key onto the negative terminal while tightening the + Stupid I know... From what I've gather sparks doesnt mean its dead, allan key was hot though! Anyway, fitted it and went to start, turned over but no catch. Even tried bumping it and it wouldnt fire up. It had some drive but VERY little, like it wanted to fire but wouldnt. Basically I could hold it going very slowly in …
