Hi, I recently bought a 1995 import SRX400 (at 33bhp, it's perfect for my pesky restricted licence, and my lack of height), and have been using it to commute happily to work, as well as taking it for a trip to the Isle of Man in June. A couple of weeks ago I went to the bike after a heavy rain storm to head home after work (it sits outside at work, but inside the garage at home), only to find that for no apparent reason the battery was flat - all the idiot lights, but not enough to start the engine. So, swapped the battery for my other half's CBR600 battery (which is identical), it fired up, and off we went. This morning, I got it out of the garage, turned on th…

Having a bit of bother with my bike. On two warmish dry days, it has failed to start (twice in three months so not regular enough for my dealership to find the problem). However, I know that when this happens, it cranks and sparks. I also know that when this happens, though there are two lives on the fuel pump assembly connector there is no whine from the pump it's self (until recovered to the dealer where it magically starts working again). This leaves me knowing there is something dodgy with the fuel pump but it is always behaving for the mechanic who therefore won't be replacing it under warranty. I have noticed from some research that a number of people are repor…

Hi, new member and first post. just picked up a 1992 sr 125 ( for work ) it starts fine but after 30 seconds or so it will die then wont start again for maybe a minute changed the plug ( sprayed ht leads and coil ) and stripped the carb (looked clean ), blowing all the jets out and putting back together starts again straight away then will run for 30--60 seconds ( holding throttle on ) then cuts out (sometimes it will pop just as it cuts out) there was an aftermarket inline fuel filter fitted which works ok and let fuel through, i removed it anyway and replaced with a straight piece of rubber tube and this has helped slightly but it still cuts out,…

Im hopefully going to start work soon bringing my old FZR600R back to its former glory or even a little better. Looking at the YZF 750 the two bikes look very similar. I was wondering how interchangable parts between the bikes may be. Specifically I was eyeing up the USD forks on the YZF and wondering if they would go on the FZR without too much hassle. Does anyone have any experience doing such a swap? Obviously Im aware that just because the fairings on two bikes are similar, its not a gaurantee that everything is swappable underneath. I just thought Id ask here before sourcing a set only to find they are nightmarish/impossible to fit. Thanks for any help anyone can …

Hello not sure where to start really, here goes. I have just put my 1977 DT 100 back on the road after 31 years. This has been a great project for me and my 20 year old son. We have replaced a few oil seals, battery tyres, air filter (original foam type).Cleaned the carb half a dozen times and it now runs fine on idle and revs. My problem is that it will not pull up the rev range,it is flat out at 30 mph (ish) and you can feel it holding back. I have tried to clean out the exhaust (by heating with propane gas torch) as I thought that might be the cause. Not sure if it could still have a carbon build up. Also the fuel tap will only work on reserve, could it be runnin…

Hi, I can't find a petrol tank cap for my Yamaha Dragstar XVS125. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or is there a cap from a different bike that would fit to this one?

My current project is going to be installing white LED under tank engine accent lighting on my V-Star 1300. Looking to put 2 light strips (one on each side of frame under tank). My question: 1) what is the best way to take the tank off just enough to install the lights, 2) where is the best place to wire them in? I would like to have an on/off switch somewhere in the front of the bike, maybe in the electrical cover under the handle bars. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Also, if anyone has lights on their 1300, pics?

Ok so The RD is great...but.... After going out for a fairly long ride, towards the end i noticed that when i was changing gear the revs wernt dying off quick enough when i pulled the clutch in and she was revving at around 5krpm. I first thought, air leak but a hell of a lot of WD40 spraying i got nothing. I oiled the top half of the throttle cable, which didnt help. I've taken the slides out and put some oil back up the cable from that end towards the junction box and also sprayed some WD down the slides to see if they were sticking. It worked. I went out on a test ride. At low speeds with the throttle openeing marginly and changing position alot it was fine. I took…

Hey guys, my 1978 it400 has rebuilt carb, top end, & replaced spark plug. Plug wire is in good condition. Hard to start sometimes, other times 1st kick. Plug doesn't look excessively wet (though I'm new to 2 strokes). I tried adjusting the carb main jet needle 1 notch richer, without any change. Suggestions?

Hi, I've just bought Yamaha RXS 100 and besides other "issues" I am a bit worried about a security of a bike. I've seen some ingnition locks on ebay, it suits the model and the year ( mine's is 1989), however, I am not sure if it works by just replacing ingnition lock. Do I need any aditional works to be done ?By the way, where do you guys keep your locks ? I have noticed a bit of storage lack on a bike and don't really want to buy one of those ugly looking plastic boxes that you usually fix at the back. Cheers, Tomas.

Alright there lads, I've got a technical question for you mechanics. Right now, I can't afford to buy a sports exhaust for my R125, but I've seen on another forum someone that you can cut the exhaust down to make the sound better. I can give pictures of my own bike if needed (just not at this time) Not the best picture, but it will do (Alternative Image) The mod consists of cutting down the little tube poking out of the end of the end cap down to the main silencer body, it's about 3 inches of pipe that goes missing. Idea being the exhuast gasses expand in the cap, rather than straight out of the back. You can test it by holding the cap a few inches…

Hi guys, yet another newb mechanical question! Recently my YBR125 has begun not shifting into second gear properly, as in it simply will not engage from 1st, coming down the range is fine and all the other gears shift as normal. The bike shifts from 1st to neutral but refuses to progress through, which it eventually manages after declutching several times and really giving the changer a good kick, which is less than ideal in town riding. I have to do my MOD 2 on this bike in the next few weeks, so it needs sorting! Any help appreciated, Blake

Hi all, The other week I had a pretty frustrating and unnecessary crash on my wee, glorious T80 Townmate. I've taken it into the garage (as it fell quite uncomfortably and clearly needed seeing to) and they have diagnosed "the whole front is completely bent". On further questioning I discovered that this means the front forks and the cantilever system are bent. The garage say they can't source any parts at all and generally don't seem to have the time for my beatiful machine. Having done a fair bit of a web-search I've found a set of front forks that are horribly expensive but oddly I can't even find a reference to the presence of a cantilever system on my model, which…
