just wondering if anyone know a way to eliminate the ignitor unit? can i hook the coils directly to the spark sending unit on the fly wheel? i have a basket case and just trying to wire it basic to get it running as some one cut the harness up and all the fancy relays are missing. just want to get it running to see if its worth fixing. thanks

  3. Hi, I have a real trouble with my XS400 DOHC. At first when I bought it, PO said that she smokes like 7liters/100km So what I've done: - eliminate hole at muffler - new jets to carbs (stock) - change oil, checked air filter- fine, - set valve clearance - changed float height to about 20 mm - (was about 16'ish) I haven't have a chance to check consumption before that, but suddenly I had sth like 10 liters/100km so I've changed float height to about 22mm - it is almost far as can be, and manualy pull out the choke lever in carbs (when I was pulling choke my XS couldn't even run - just drown right away, after setting higher float height it started to work, but…

Hi all, bet not many people have heard of this one, but I have a yammie V90 from 1979... been in the shed for nigh on 15 years oiled up but is now a restoration project. For those thinking what the heck am I on about, the V90 was Yamaha's answer to the venerable Honda C90 except at a 2 stroke jobbbie. Rode it for about 2 years before shedding it but gave it a prod today and there is still life in the spark system.. Cleaned the oil off and it looks fairly fit.. alas the fuel tap leaks like a BP oil platform in the gulf.... Anyone know where I can get a replacment... long shot I know but other than this I will have to find a different fuel... If memory serves me right, i…

Hey everyone. This is my first post on here. I have owned this 1972 LS2 100 since I was 14 years old. It's the bike I learned to ride on and it sat in a garage for almost 15 years. I finally decided last year to start working to fully restore it and today I started her for the first time in a very long time. A few kicks later and she fired right up. So, here I am. If you have any suggestions, resources or ideas please do pass them my way.

  7. been battling an issue with my 1976 xs500. after the bike sits i'll come out to it and gas will be on the ground under it. I believe its coming out of the over flow for the carbs. i've had the petcocks rebuilt with new parts, had the carbs gone through (just a good cleaning) and replaced needles / seats and floats with n.o.s. parts. any ideas? I was thinking maybe pressure builds in the tank and pushes gas through the carbs while sitting?

I'm working on an XS400 that my son's friend owns and I just managed to get it to fire up for the first time in 7+ years. It had a mouse nest in the air box and carbs choked up with stale/varnished gas. So far all I've done is of course clean out the air box and thoroughly soaked both carbs as well as rinse out the gas tank and so far that's what the bike needed to fire up and stay running but after taking it for a quick spin it's obvious more TLC is in order. Many things still need to be done such as checking valve lash, cleaning all electrical connections and so on but to start things off what I need to know now is how many turns should the synchronizer (low speed, idle…

Finally got piston kit from Yambits. Engine went in today and exhaust now mounted. I see i need special sockets for these bolts..a wise man told me a gedore socket can strip them. Found that out today on one engine bolt. Been sanding and spraypainting my backside off for 2 days. Learned Satin Black much nicer then Gloss Black. Did the frame in gloss and repainted the chrome handlebars Satin black. Painted cylinder and head with heat resistant black..as well as exhaust. Need to do something with engine covers still..Satin black it is. Wanted to go for Sunshine red for tank and plastics..but my paint supplier never heard of it as they only specialize in cars. Went for a Fia…

Mellow greetings all, Does anyone know the normal behaviour of the charge light on the CS5? Mine will stay out above about 1800 rpm, but my manual says idle should be 1050-1200. Anything below 1800 and the light comes on and the engine falters slightly till the light goes back out above 1800. The manual states that cut-in should occur around 1700 or 1900, depending on what page you are on. Does that, by inverse logic mean that cut-out occurs at the same point? I keep the idle at 1900 or so to keep the light out but the manual says that's way too high. Any help or ideas as always is greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone, new member to this forum. Looking for info on swapping out front forks on a 1975 MX 125B that I'm working on restoring. The forks I have are pretty pitted and rusty in the travel area so I was hoping to do a fork swap but haven't been able to find any real info online regarding what will fit, either the entier fork swap including tripple tree or just the tubes themselves. Does anyone have any references or info on what will fit? Thanks for any info you can provide.

  19. I have a 1976 Yamaha DT-80 with 280 miles on it in near mint condition, but there seems to be a problem with the kickstart or engine, not sure. I am new to bikes and got this bike off my mom, and was just wondering if there was some steps I could take to diagnose it. It actually ROLL STARTS just fine.
