Hi I have just acquired a US import RD250 1974, a few questions if you don't mind.. 1) what oil do I put in the oil tank for the two stroke mix? and I don't know what is in there at present(it's a pale yellow colour) so can it be mixed with another type? 2) What are those 3 small tubes coming from the carb area that are not attached to anything at the other end? 3)When looking on ebay for bits there seems to be a lot of models listed for various parts (RD250A/B/C DX etc) are many of the parts for say RD250 73-79 similar or will stuff only fit a certain model? My frame number starts 352 so it looks like an RD250DXpro, whatever that means 4)Are there different fron…

Hello, I'm rebuilding my 1972 Yamaha 100 LS3. I've had the frame painted and the painted parts repainted. I'll post some pics at some point. I'm putting the electrics back together and I'm coming up with a problem with the front indicators. The indicators are single wire and as the fork ears have been freshly painted, I don't know how to earth the indicators so they'll work? The rear ones are fine because they mount to the frame and the so the bolt thread allows the indicator to earth. Do I need to scratch the fork ear so that the indicator will make contact with the metal and earth? or is there a better way. I just didn't want to scratch my beautifu…

So here is my problem. After removing the clutch basket and gaining access to the shift assembly I found the adjustment screw was loose. So I tightened it down all the way and began shifting the bike and backing the screw out a bit at a time. After shifting the bike maybe three times it now refuses to shift at all. At first I noticed that the rods in the shift drum would end up only being rotated part way, Thus getting stuck out of reach of the shift armature. Now, even though the rods are in proper position, the drum just refuses to move. It appears to be stuck in neutral as the tire spins freely,.Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi guys looking for some a little help I recently bought a barn find dt 250 mono shock 1978! Its Been lying in a barn since 1997 Its white and seems complete and untouched Its frames a little rusty but plan on a total strip down! I wouldn't mind seeing if I could get it to start But at the moment it won't even spark The points look in good condition considering So does everything else behind the cover I had a poke about with a tester and the wire to the coil seem permanently earthed until I unplugged everything in the headlight! I didn't think this was normal I manage to pick up wiring diagram off google images it isn't very clear and there is different c…

Hello All! Been a month or so since I've posted, but I finally got my 72 CT 175 running! (Great Success!) I was curious to any of you who have a similar model bike, have you had issues regarding air flow (using the choke on the carb) to keep the bike running through gear changes? When I place mine into 1st gear, the choke pin seems to fall back into place, and the engine shuts off (so I have to actually put a clothes pin or something to keep it open, so the bike runs properly) Is this somewhat expected? Or a strange case?

Just picked up this bike off a buddy of mine but unfortunately he tried to make it straight motocross so it's missing the gauge cluster, ignition, turn signals, rear brake light, an air filter, and some good cleaning. It originally needed a throttle cable as well so I cleaned out the Mikuni carb and installed the new cable. The bike ran great for the first time yesterday but I'd like to put in fresh fuel/oil mixture as well as gear oil but am not sure which mixtures and brands to go with since it's a vintage bike and I was told each bike is specific. I appreciate any help here. I posted a few pictures too IMG]http://i42.tinypic.com/2qn8tw9.jpg

Hi Guys, Me again :-) Can you bl**dy believe it !!! I have driven Yams for the last 30 years but none had adjustable head lamps - this one has and its duff - hence failed MOT. That's all, really. Chap was a bit apologetic for he thought it was a cracking bike. This mini UJ connecting head light to the adjuster knob has fallen apart. My hands are to big to fiddle around with it without taking the whole bl**dy fairing off. :-( Any pointers ? Thanks.

Hi all I have a yamaha 1983 YT175K Tri-moto These come with auto clutch and pull start as standard and I have heard that parts from 1983 IT175 are very similar and can be swapped with a little modification. I dont want to start this without a little info on this as i have not worked on many old yamahas before. Is ther any one on here with any knowledge on the IT175 engines or parts for sale that are likely to be needed

Hello all, So here is a little description of my issue with my Yl-1. I have only ever worked with single speed or two speed automatic two-strokers in the past. I apologize for the length of this post. I just want to be detailed. Once I got her running I noticed that there was serious slipping when in 4th gear (4 speed bike). I left this be while I sorted other things out, Eventually I noticed an issue where I would be shifting into 4th and I would end up back in neutral, then when I would try and shift up again I would end up in 1st gear. About two weeks ago I rebuilt the clutch and eliminated the slipping in 4th gear, however now I have a more serious issue whe…

Been searching for awhile but all of them are always too far away (not that there are many around). At last one came up in Cape Town so I snapped it up today as the guy had eight potential buyers. The bike was stored for 10 years. She is running fairly good and idling but has a miss under throttle as revs go past 5000. He had the carb done by someone but maybe there`s still an issue there. Dent on right side of tank and showing some rust inside. Electrics work ok. Front mudguard not original and rear one looking ready to fall apart. Plenty work on this one to get rid of rust and weathering. Anyway will strive to get her looking good within my budget. Happy to have prett…

This is the story. I took the SV for it's MOT today (it passed again). Sitting outside the workshop was a tired and unloved yellow Yami. While I was waiting for the MOT I got talking to the shop owner who said it was up for sale at about £1 a cc. I know I have enough bikes, the YA-6 is still only semi stripped but the bike kept calling me. I dropped the SV off home and quickly spoke to my beautiful better half . She basically said ".....if you want it, buy it....." so off I went to the bike shop again to find out a little more about the bike. Bad points No papers for it No keys for it Just about everything needs to be stripped and worked on Good points It…

Just wondering if anyone knows where i can find some vintage style tyres, Firestone champion deluxe or similar, in sizes,100/90/19(front) and 150/80/16(rear). im drawing a bit of a blank with it so far, and thought someone here may know if they are available.just as a secondary question if a bike has cast alloy wheels fitted, is there any way a wheel builder could make a set of spoked wheels for it? thanks X-kid

Hi, I'm new here! I'm from switzerland and bought 2 seventies 2stroke offroad Bikes. The Yamaha makes some Trouble right from the beginnng.... When cold my mx 1978 dt 125 does not start well... it runs a few seconds at low revs only and then it dies... When I Open the throttle dürfend starting is even worse... So after dozends of trials it finally runs smooth. Starting warm ist not a Problem.. Carburator has been cleaned an checked. Fuel supply is fine. Could this be a problem with the ignition System as well? Any ideas? Thx in advance Tom

Well, I have just aquired (for the 3rd time!) a 1979 XS750SE. I first bought it in 1995 in original form, but hated the original mini ape type bars, so they were the first to go. It has been through a fair few images, but now looks like this: Well, it did when I last saw it! The plan is to make it into a cafe racer style ratter! It's most of the way there, and I really don't have the time or inclination to polish everything up to make a good cafe racer! But I will see how the mood takes me as I begin the project!

Hey All! Just bought a 1972 CT-2. Having issues getting it to start. The bike has great compression, and a spark, but it wont pop. I figured I am going to replace the points and condenser (hopefully that will solve the problem) but does anyone have any other suggestions, or have had a similar problem getting them running? I know two strokes can be a little mysterious at times... Any help would be great!
