Hello. My name's John. I'm 23. I'm from Pennsylvania in the United States, and I've been a proud owner of a 2006 GSXR 1000 for a while, and thought.. I've always wanted a old style cafe racer. So I got a 1979 Yamaha XS 750 for $400 to work on. I'll post my build in the builds thread when I get started, but I thought I'd introduce myself here. It's in really rough shape, and there's alot of things I'll need to do to get it running, and then looking spiffy. The big things I know I'll need is a gas tank, ignition switch (didn't come with a key) of course a battery, cafe seat and handlebars, and a bunch of other things. Suprisingly, the carbs are in supurb cond…

Hi folks. In the manual for my Yamaha LS2 it says the following about filling of gear oil: Pour transmission oil through the oil filler in quantity marked in relief on the right hand side of the crankcase cover. What does "marked in relief on the right hand side of the crankcase cover" mean? Remember I am from Norway, and english is not my native language :eusa_whistle:Beside the text there is a picture showing a hand holding the oil dipstick half way out of the filler hole. Does it mean that I must fill oil utill it reaches between two lines moulded into the rubber on the dipstick, or does it mean that the quantity in litres are stamped on the crankcase cower? …

Just changed the gear ratio on my '81. Thought I'd let everyone know some things about this. 1. DO NOT buy a gear lower than 12 in the front. The locking brace is literally 1-3mm too big and will bump up your chain. I installed a 12 and had to shave that bracket down a bit. 2. For a 12-41 it was a 97 link chain at the shortest adjustment. 3. As far as I know you can't physically buy anything smaller. They do sell 10-11tooth fronts, but as I said, you'll have to do some modifications to the locking bracket to get it to hold the chain right. Or fabricate a new one. 4. I have not tested top speed, although I am cruising at 25mph in the mid 3rd gear, instead o…

I have a 1981 SR250, great bike, but I don't know much about it... Firstly, I need to reset the timing due to tapping in the top end. I opened those little caps on top of the cylinder that use hexes, and found the ignition points. Thing is, which one is exhaust, and intake? Also, has anyone experimented with performance? Coming from a dirtbike background I'm thinking shaving the head, doing a big bore conversion, etc. But are there better more efficient ways for these little streetbikes?

Hello everyone. Im new here in forums and im also new in riding a bike. A little history: A friend of mine had a yamaha sr250 and he had an accident. The bike is not damaged because the accident was just a looooong draw away for the rider and the bike. The rider broke his astragalus that was it: the bike wasn't used for about a year. Now: So here i am, i wanted to buy a bike and he told me he would sell it to me at a really low price. What i had to repair was the gear and the clutch lever. Once i cleaned the breaks, the chain and the fuel tank, changed engine oils, oil filter, fuel filter, cleand the carburetor and did a lot of other jobs, i finally came to the p…

Hello everyone, I recently acquired a little 125 Yam here in the UK, in need of some restoration. It was sold as a 1974 DT125 and I have the registration papers which confirm it was registered in the UK on 4/7/74. However, after checking the matching engine and frame numbers I'm a little confused - Numbers are *AT2-102238* I've searched high and low online, but can't find any reference to yam models starting AT2 - obviously there is the AT2 model, but according to all online sources, their Vin should start AT1? Can anyone help me out and tell me what exactly I've got please? Many thanks Tom

Been down three days now after the RT3 nearly broke my foot/ankle/leg/torso/spirit with a couple of vicious kick-backs whilst trying to start. Being a lazy American and with the 'fiscal cliff' just now narrowly averted by my government, I never sprang for a timing light and have gotten by on setting the points to their nominal clearance per the shop manual. Obviously this has not worked out very well, so have finally ponied up the dough for a static timing light. It is my fervent hope that I will find the timing set at something like 6 or 7 mm BTDC instead of the requisite 2.9 mm. Anyone had any experience with the RT/360 line in this area? If I can't get this sorted …

I have a neighbor who is almost 83 yrs old. He bought this '71 CT 175 new. It has 119 original miles and is in 99-100% unmolested new condition. It has been covered in his garage since new. I have seen low mile vintage bikes that were not in good condition but this Yamaha looks like it came off the showroom yesterday. The old guy has kept a tag and insurance on it since new. Why I have no idea. I doubt there is a better example anywhere. I have not ask him yet but knowing him he has all of the original paper work. This bike belongs in a museum or with a collector. He has decided he will part with it. I'm sure it's value will vary greatly depending on who you a…

Alright folks As I have said earlier, my boy passed his mod 2 last week and wants a Virago. I am trying to steer him in the direction of an XS650. Looking at a few on fleabay and they look good to me. Am I wearing rose coloured specs, my mate had one back in the day, and I really liked it (I never told him tho as I owned a Bonnie at the time and the xs was a jap imitation of a real bike ) . He likes the look and sound of the virago but I'm trying to convince him the xs is just as good if not better. What says the collective?

Anyone run tires larger than the original 3.50x18? When I bought my rebuilder had a 4.50x18 on it. Physically, it looks ok and I'd like to stay with the wider tire (sand). Since it didn't run when I got it I don't know what adverse effects this may have or if there is any. Thanks

Got to thinking while reading a thread in another part of the forum. BLACkHAT250 posted the following comment about DT400E jetting: Aha " thats what mine used to do, after it sits for a night, I think you should pull the head & barrel , then spin the crank, an see if thers gear oil on the bottom of crank, i suspect R/h crank seal sucking thru , i know it will burn it off , but if its as bad as mine was, it will be half up the crank, talking up swept volume in the case, resulting in that kangaroo effect, see how smooth that DT in video is, So now I'm thinking (yup, Danger! American thinking! ), where do the main bearings get their oil? The two drill…
