Hey friends, i recently obtained a new bike. the seller said it was "1968 yamaha R1." i started doing some digging, and its looking like the YR1- sounds like its referred to the granddad to the RD. i was wondering if you guys had any knowledge of the engine/ignition cross over- if any with the RD. here is a picture- ima start rebuilding tomorrow hopefully.

Hey guys. Got a 82' DT100 Enduro that has been running great as of late. I did notice that when I start it up in neutral, the oil light stays illuminated in red until I pop it into 1st gear and start riding. The oil never comes on unless I am in neutral. Is this reason for concern? Thanks as always. Dave

Old story I suppose, I had a 1975 Yamaha Enduro (DT) 125 when I was a teenager. Loved that bike. I've been keeping my eyes open for another - not a museum queen, rather a nice solid example that I plan to plate and ride. 125, 175, 250, either would suit my purpose, but what I'm hoping to learn is some of the pitfalls to watch out for. Even back when I owned one as a kid, I was never very knowledgeable on these things. My dad kept an eye on us and the bike was very reliable. Aside from the obvious, I'm looking for some key points to consider when shopping around. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Jeff (newb)

Hello, All. Got an old Yamaha here. It'll run for a minute or two with the fuel lines hooked up. The oiler is missing, and there are a pair of what look like vaccuum ports not connected. It has parts from a different bike. The muffler is stamped KS-250M not sure if its the correct muffler. The fuel shut-off valve is broken. The frame and some other parts have been sprayed with liquid metal. It's an awful mess. There is a second which looks the same but has some subtle differences, the second bike is missing the back wheel and some other parts as well but does have an oiler. I have a younger fella here who really really wants the bike. He'll be doing most o…

Hi there, Been out of the motorcycle world for a few years now, then ended up needing a commuter so bought a cheap ped whilst I looked for something for permanent (although I've now lost my 100% yamaha claim as it was a piaggio, but I am sure I can change my claim to only ever owned yamaha motorbikes ). So I just bought a 1988 Yamaha YB100 deluxe, that I will be picking up on Saturday if it goes through it's MOT as easy as they reckon it will. My commute is only 3 miles, with 1 mile in the national speed limit, the rest is 40, so I've gone for the smaller and hopefully cheaper engined route I need to make sure it is going to make the 90miles home before I can…

Hey Everyone, I'm looking for dual sport tires to fit my 1974 Yamaha DT175A. After much research and internetting, I have come across several sites that offer good tires at decent prices... My OCD is starting to kick in and I cant decide on which tires to get and I'm starting to question whether I am looking at the correct ones or not... My tire sizes are as follows: Front: 3.00x 19 Rear: 3.50x 18 Before I pull the trigger and buy the "wrong" tires, I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction as to what will fit on these rim sizes. I have read some mixed opinions on putting smaller/larger width tires on my rims and don't want to spend the money u…

Hello guys, my first post on your site! My Yamaha was running fine, a little hard to start but not bad. I decided I should clean the carb, gas tank and petcock. Put everything back together (correctly as far as I can tell) and now it won't start at all.New fuel, petcock clean and allowing fuel through. Inline fuel filter clean, carb getting fuel, floats working, good spark on spark plug, no oil light on. Ignition in on position with key in it. I am at a loss. Any thoughts or recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated. Dave

Ok, so I now know that the XS Eleven that i am after is a 1980 model. It has some cosmetic damage, but nothing that can't be fixed or replaced. My biggest headache is that the bike was last licensed in 1986 and there are no papers. So I will have plenty of work to get the bike into my name which is going to cost between $375 and $750. It will probably also take a few months to get the process completed with the state of our authorities here. I don't mind spending the bucks on the licensing, as I can get the bike for $250. So it will still be a bit of a bargain. Another option I have is to buy up a Midnight Specail, which is licensed, but the the head will need new v…

The oil induction/injection still works on this bike but I'm having a hard time adjusting the oil pump mixture rate to get the marks to line up per the manual. The cable is old and stretched and there simply isn't any adjustment room left. Trying to find a replacement has been tough. I thought to better control things I may just go to pre-mixing my fuel and 2-stroke oil. What do I need to do to make this change? Is it as simple as - stop filling the oil tank and fill up the gas tank with pre-mix - or is there something I need to plug off or close up with the oil tank/line/pump etc? Thanks! Jeff
