For the Vintage Yamahas

  1. Started by YamaHead,

Here's the latest creation from Moto-Carrera's SpeedShop ...... the Latigo Canyon Special Modded RD400, complete with aluminum swingarm, custom spannies & a DG radial finned head. I bet this beaut doesn't weigh much over 300lbs.

  3. Started by Rowland,

I've just found this forum, having just bought an elderly XJ 550 which appears to be in excellent condition. Can anyone help however with the following? 1. Where is the nearest Yamaha dealer to Southampton? 2. Are spares easy/difficult? 3. I have been given an address of a company in Cornwall is this the place to go? 4. Who is the acknowledged "after market" spares provider? 5. Is there a club mag or any other literature? Sorry that this lot sounds a bit boring, by the way the bike is 81 or 82. Thanks Rowland

Hiya Can anyone confirm a typical frame number for the RZ350 and provide a contact number where I might get a dating certificate for an unregistered bike? Mines an import and looks like 33E-014128 and Yamaha UK say that is an incomplete number. Thanks Motobiman

I guess this question has come up many many times before, but, can anyone confirm for me what i've been told about unleaded. I've just purchased a superb 1982 DT175 with only 3k genuine on the clock, so you can see it hasn't had much use, the previous owner told me its fine to run her on unleaded. Is this right ????? Thanks all.....

I've got this Seca 750 and had it running after i bought it. I didnt do anything to it at that time, and it seemed to run OK except for low-end throttle, it seemed as though it was miss firing. As soon as i would give it gas, it would go just fine. I figured it was carb related, from sitting forever, and I was right, the carbs were extremely dirty. One of the smaller jets was clogged, and I am guessing that is what made up that low end missfire. I cleaned out all the jets, everything. Carb cleaner, air-compresser, the works. The floats were still in adjustment (17.5MM) as I measured them all The floats are also in good shape (did the hot water test to find…

I checked the plugs, only to find that one of them was the wrong one, and the other was correct. Not only that both of them were pretty fouled out. I replaced the plugs with NGK BR8HS. THe guy at the yamaha dealership told me that they were the same plugs that I looked up on them "B8HS" except they were resister plugs... to me that sounds like its going to get a weaker spark. Whats the difference? Also, How can I make this thing run leaner? I drove it about a mile, and the brand new plugs are pretty black already. I'm not sure if all two strokes run this dirty, but to me it just seems rich. I cleaned out the points once, then drove it about 100 miles, cleaned them out …

My mate Dez is restoring one. It came with the worst paint job you have ever seen  and he wants to repaint as it as standard. However we can't find any pics and we are arguing about the stripe up the tank. Don't s'pose you guys can remember seeing any on your internet travels? It's a 1985 one. All the one's Ive found so far have had paint jobs and there's no acounting for the tastes of some people!!

So, it looks like I'm close to scoring a beat-up old FZ600 (NOT an FZR, an FZ), and I'm thinking that it would be cool to invest some effort in setting it up for the track and using it as a track bike for a couple of years until some other projects are out of the way and I can get to work on it - do a serious, radical customization. What I was thinking in terms of track prep is just basic stuff - go over it and make sure everything's OK, safety wire, braided lines, HH pads, sport/street tires, RaceTech front end, 520 chain and sprockets and a jet kit. There's already a yosh pipe on it. I want to be clear that my goal is NOT to break any lap records or anything like…
