Hi, new to the forum and new to 2 strokes. I just purchased a 1972 DS7 which has the autolube disconnected. I believe originally the fuel/oil ratio was 20-1 but I'm wondering what would it be with the new oils, especially the synthetic oils? Some of the new oils state on the container that they should be mixed at 100-1 in any engine. Any advice? As far as classics I also own a 75 XS650 and a 82 SR250. I should add that the injector pump came along with the bike, it's been stored in a bag since the bike was new, is it difficult to install? Thanks.

Hello I just bought a 1972 Yamaha CS5, it is a fun little bike, but I know next to nothing about it. I would like to know if anybody knows anything about the bike, or if you don't, where would be a good place to start? Google, so far, has failed because Yamaha also made a CS5 synthesizer, and that makes searching a little slow. When I figure out how to post images I will. Thanks!

My son's home and I'm away for a month, and he doesn't understand how to replace the original ball bearings on the 125 DX with the taper head bearing kit he got from Yambits. (Fast shipping and great service as usual, btw!). I suspect that he has to remove the part of the head itself where the balls were, but am I wrong? He says it seems to be a part ofthe head itself, but they can be knocked out, right? Is there a tutorial somewhere that he can follow? Also he says that the kit came with some rubber bushings. Where are they supposed to go? Are they a part of what's going to be punched into the steering head?

I am trying to get this DT 175 running. It's been sitting for 15 years with gas in the carburetor. I got carb. cleaned (as far as I can tell)and got the bike running. The only problem is that it will only run with the choke on, it won't hold an idle and it loses power while trying to ride. It seems like the carb. is running lean but, i'm no mechanic and this is my first bout with a carburetor. If anyone has any suggestions, i would appericiate it. I have a CLYMER's book for this and I set the floats according to the book (along with some experimental adjustments) and I'm still having issues.

We now offer a neat kit that fits straight on, with no wiring or machining, that lets the bike run without the weak pulser. Our 'Racing Magneto' kit consists of a new stator plate, to which the original source and lighting coils bolt to and a new Electronic Magneto Control Unit. The standard windings are fitted to the new plate giving power for the lighting and ignition. The new system gives very noticeably improved performance in the midrange, is easy to fit and is fully adjustable. This magneto kit is applicable to the following bikes: DT250/400 B & C 1975-76. DT360 A, B & C 1974-76. IT400C 1976. MX400C 1976. YZ400 C 1976. It will be available…

this is my first motorcycle rebuild, im part of a 2stroke moped shop so i i know a decent amount about 2 stokes but i work with mostly single cylinder and nothing this old. that being said i was setting this up to be bare bones with no battery since it has a kick start and no turn signals. i mounted the engine and and was checking the electrical I'm getting some voltage out of the green post wich is meant for lights and ext, but the orange and ash grey posts are getting no curent at all im not sure why i checked the points and condensers cleaned them but I'm not familiar with the flywheel i.e. how to pul it to check and clean if there is any rust or crud in there. if an…

Hi, This is my first post, so hello. I'd appreciate any help on a Yamaha LS3. I'm considering buying one, but there are very little details about it online. My google searching suggests that it is quite similar to the RS100, but it looks like yamaha made loads of very similar 100cc 2 strokes around that period with many different names (?) The bike im looking at is registered, and is in quite good shape, but im seeking details on parts availability. There is a manual and a parts catalog available on ebay. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/YAMAHA-Parts-Manual-LS3-100cc-1972-1973-Replacement-Spares-Catalog-List-/380538313035?pt=Motors_Manuals_Literature&hash=it…

My son has a problem with his balls. Not hereditary, I know very well how many balls I have and need! Now I have not looked at his because I'm not at home right now, but according to the RD125B_RD200B repair manual, which I have, there should be 19 balls both in the upper and lower bearing of the stearing head. He says he can't understand that because it doesn't look like more than 18 will fit each. The problem is that he has split two heads at the same time, one parts bike and his own bike, and he may have mixed up the balls. Sounds rather uncomfortable to me, to continue the (bad) jokes. But he thinks he has 37 balls from his own bike, and they should be OK. Then he m…

I'm talking about the weird looking thing that doesn't even look like a nut and keeps my loose balls in place (couldn't resist that one...). It's kind of hard to use a torque wrench since I don't have anything that resembles the pattern on the nut. So how do you guys do that?

I have had the good fortune to purchase a 1965 YDS3 250 twin cylinder two stroke. This was Yamaha's first model with Autolube injection and not requiring premix fuel. The engine was rebuilt at approximately 9000 miles ago so is mechanically sound and runs but the paint is like a patch work quilt. It is complete but in need of restoration which is where I enter and cannot wait. My question relates to the colour, I wish to paint this bike the original blue and white colour design and am asking if any body out here can tell me what the original blue and white used by Yamaha was. I will appreciate any assistance with this question.

Let me make clear that I don't regard the 125 LC as a classic - yet. But the electrical system is 6V, and that counts for some classicness or what? The thing is: headlights work OK when I start the engine cold, and it shines like a 6V star at idle and during short revving the first 2 minutes. But then it goes black hole:(. This has happened for four days, and the bulbs and connections are fine. I have not began serious troubleshooting yet, but I suspect It might have something to do with the regulator. Maybe someone has had a similar issue with their 6Vs and knows where I should begin?
