After great advice from the forum, copious amounts of WD and my very largest hammer the swingarm is now off the bike. It is amazing what a junior hacksaw can do The frame and swingarm are both saved and I am a happy bunny. I did have to strip the bike though!! In case it is any use to anyone, I carefully cut through the thrust covers in several places and spayed them flat (in one picture they are like ragged stars) and carefully cut through between the frame and the bearing with the junior hacksaw. The offside one has to be sawn from the bottom up so it is an engine out job. Swingarm with the remnants of the outer bearings still in in The sawn bolt a…

I've just measured the bore which is supposed to be 56mm standard, but what I have here is actually 66mm. I can't find a 10mm oversize piston, so I'm wondering if a DT175 piston will fit? Is a DT175 piston the same length, does it have the same size pin hole, will the conrod bearing fit, are the ports the same? Hope someone can shed some light on this. Cheers Chris

I just had to tell you what a great guy he is. After posting my problems on here I've had quite a few responses and good advice from other members and they have been very helpful and i totally have appreciated it. But JimR has gone that extra mile .....or should i say 160 miles. He came to me today and started stripping down my bike pinpointed the problems and got straight to work putting them right for me he certainly knows his stuff! It shows what a true gent we have on this forum and he is a credit to the Yamaha owners club. Thanks again Jim Mark

Hi, I'm new to the forum as I have just purchased my first street bike, a 1986 Yamaha Radian. I'm having a couple of problems that are really giving me a headache. First, the bike runs fairly well for the first 10-15 mins or so. When you roll on the power it runs slightly rough up until about 5000 rpm, then it cleans out and pulls hard to redline. It runs like this consistently for 10-15 mins, then all of a sudden it starts running only on cylinders 1 and 4. Cylinders 2 and 3 still have spark, but I can unplug them and it has no effect on how it runs. If I unplug 1 or 4 it dies instantly. Second problem. Should the starter disengage after the engine fires? So…

Hi all, newbie here so please be gentle. I've just bought a 1983 DT125 LC to use as a field bike and would like to remove any unnecessary wiring. (indicators, lights .etc) Anyone know what I can rip out and what I need to leave in? I don't want to go ahead and remove something I shouldn't... Also, anyone know what plug I should use in this? (my service manual hasn't arrived yet) Cheers Chris

hi in in the process of rebuilding my 1986 fz750; I need new std size piston rings and possibly bearings; or i might be prepared to go to the 1st oversize with pistons and rings; any ideas where i can source some of these at reasonable cost; here in newzealand yamaha original parts are way expensive. Or if any one knows of some alternative rings that may suit; then i am willing to modify my pistons to suit. Also has anyone tried ceramic coatings in there engine i am interested in feedback on this. Also for anybody reading this; i have heard nothing but excellent things about motul synthetic oil; and recommend this myself. iam using this in my 1988 honda gb5oo and it seem…

My 1986 Fazer has a rod knock. I have yet to tear down the motor, but my manual shows traditional bearings on the crank side. Are these readily available? What about the wrist-pin? Is there a replacable bushing? I Don't want to waste my time tearing it down if it's a lost cause! Any advise would be greatly appreciated (I've owned this bike since 1991 and have become quite attached)! Thanks---Shawn

hi there I'm Paul and i have a Sachs roadster 125 which uses the xv 125 engine , iv put a new performance air filter and put a bigger main jet on it but my exhaust is practically free flow due to the fist size hole ... if anyone can help I'm in need of some advice. 1. the bike fails to start unless i push it up and down the street in second gear. iv looked at the spark plugs and the mixture is a bit on the lean side could this be why it wont start? iv got a 97.5 main jet in it, and a 102.5 is too big but cant get hold of any that are in between. 2. is the standard exhaust restricted somehow? as iv had a look at mine and there is a lip / over weld on the …

Olla! I have a 1998 Fazer with no engine, someone has told me that a Thundercat or R6 engine would be an ideal replacement (same mounting points etc), what other work would need to be carried out, I have the original ECU. All your help is gratefully appreciated http://www.yamahaclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17153 Many thanks Chris

I am interested in your comments please!! I brought a cheap compressor off hbay this morning and it made me think. Inspired by OG's thread of shot blasting an exhaust I wondered if I could "adapt" a shed to shot blast larger items. The shed is old anyway but is this shape Anyway. I was thinking that if I tarpaulined it out and cut two holes for my hands in the perspex windows would I be able to use it as a large shot blast cabinet? I know I can get items blasted and painted for not a lot of money and my finish may not be as good as a professional but it would allow me to blast anything at my leisure. Not just the present bike but any one I get for my …

Hi All I have been given an FZ600 1988 which is in need of lots of work to get it looking yummy. I am a two stroke man and if this was a TZR/RD I would not ask this question as I would just restore, but is it really worth restoring this old girl. It is all there but has not been run for two years, so breaks were stuck on and the like, but no corrosion. The forks, bodywork, frame and wheels are in nfairly good condition. The engine has not been run for a year, so I am wondering if this will need a total rebuild. I reckon I am looking at around £600 and 6 months to get it back to looking the biz, but not sure if it's worth it. Will it be a classic? Do not know m…

So I've just picked up a 1997 XJ600N and although it's in fairly good nick it good do with a bit of TLC to get it looking good. I'm fine with the chrome (chrome polish obviously). What's puzzling me is the engine. What should I use to get the air cooled engine a bit cleaner? It's obviously going to be a hard job (cleaning between the cooling fins etc...). The other problem I have is a slight bit of rust on the frame. I'm happy sanding it etc... but I'm unsure the best way to repaint it. First thing is will I be able to get the correct colour? Second is how to paint it without stripping the bike right down. Will it look ok painted with a pot of paint and a brush? If …
