Hi All, I have an Acumen alarm system for my FZ6. The alarm fob has a built in key already cut for the bike, but obviously that doesnt work because its not chipped. Its a pain carrying around both keys (one to turn the alarm off and the yamaha one to start the bike), is it possible to remove the chip from the yamaha key and insert it into the alarm fob. How does the chip system work ? does it create a circuit on the key ie would it need to be mounted on the metal of the key or does it work with proximity to the ignition ? I've tried to pry the key apart, but its not easy considering its moulded and I'm scared to break the chip while doing so. Has anyone else …

Hi all, I've got the bike running reasonably well although it sounds as though the timing is out a little. It has a slight tinny rattle at high revs that and doesn't quite want to rev out like a 2 stroke should. I set the points using a dial guage and a thin piece of paper and I know I'm close. Runs really well up to 70km/hr. My question is can I use anything else that will give me a better reading on the points? Is it a bit hit and miss and just keep trying? The manual refers to points testers but I haven't met anyone in a bike shop that knows what that is and apparently a multi-meter or light bulb won't work. Appreciate any advice....

Hey guys, I recently picked up a 1999 Yamaha RT100. The bike had been sitting in a garage for 5 years and probably hasn't been ran in 6+ years. I got this bike pretty much for free, so It was worth a shot at fixing it. I replaced the plug, put on a brand new OEM carburetor, drained the old gas, and changed the oil in the clutch/crank case. I can get the bike to start and run for around 30-45 seconds before it dies. You have to find the "sweet" spot on the throttle in order to get it to run. If you give it more throttle it boggs down and starts to die. From what I can tell I have a problem with the Air/Fuel mixture from the carb. I have not replaced the 2 cycle motor/mixtu…

Firstly apologises as i know some of this has already been covered elsewhere but would just like some advice. I've just picked up a 1979 DT175MX (the one with the tubular swingarm) The bike has stood for the past 20 odd years and i'm trying to get her going. Would like to get some rides out of her before i undertake a restore over the winter (well the TV is always cr@p and you need something to do lol) Here's what's been done so far. Petrol drained and refilled. Oil drained and refilled. Oil line bled so no air. New battery, spark plug and air filter. Carb removed and cleaned, jets pilot holes etc blown through with compressed air (the stuff you get in tin…

Does anyone know if any other Yamaha sports mirrors fit the TRX, the std mirrors are crap, have to keep pulling your elbows in all the time. Was just wondering if any longer stemed mirrors for maybe early R1 or something might fit straight on, anyone tried, or know if anyone else has done so, any help would be great. Franky

  10. Hi all, I have taken the oil pump off of my DT as part of replacing the 4 two stroke oil pipes. 2 to the pump and 2 away from the pump. I have bled the oil pump as advised by OG in a previous thread. I am pumping the kick start over with my hand with the plug out and the oil is feeding from the pump to the junction that is pressed into the crankcase. I can see this as I brought the clear oil pipe. Even if I hold the oil pump open and "Hand kick" the bike over, the oil is very slow going towards the carb. I have got to about 1 inch from the junction and then there is about another 6 inches of pipe before the oil his the carb. Rather than keep pumping the kick start with…

Hi, I purchased my Divvy 600 a little while ago, it had been off the road for a few years, so I've been giving a service. Anyway, I took apart the fuel tap to clean it, and I can't work out the labelling, it just seems completely wrong. At 12 o'clock (labelled Res) it appears to connect together the on and reserve pipes, which would be off. At 3 (labelled Pri), it connects reserve and outlet, at 6 (labelled On) just sits in line with the outlet (which would be off) and at 9 (which you can't do due to a lug) it connects On pipe and outlet. So I'm not really working out how it all works. Especially Prime. Any ideas?

Hi all, im a new member, so go easy . . . As above i have a uk 2001 R6, covered 17k miles and just had its service. At the weekend i started having trouble getting the bike down past 2nd gear. When slowing for a roundabout/lights etc as i aproached from 4th, down to 3rd, then try and tap down again, to 2nd, it was as if the pedal had not centralised itself again to let me tap it down to 2nd. I then found that when you stop for a few mins and turn it off, itll go back down to 2nd, neutral and 1st. Then after pulling away the the whole problem starts again. For most of the day when i coulnt time the gaps in the traffic i was pulling away in 3rd! Ive just took it for a …

  19. Greetings from a lovely sunny day in geordie land! I'm after a little bit of help. I have a '87 FZ400 project bike, all is going well so far, but today One of my sump plugs broke when I was tightening it up after removing it. Now, I know the FZ400 was a 'grey' import to the UK, and that the FZ600(late 80s models) was a UK bike with virtually everything the exact same as the 400 except engine and clocks, and possibly other bits. I know this as I've got an exhaust set from a 600 on my 400, and when I looked at the 600 in the scrap yard I could tell most was the same. Anyway back my ordeal, Does anyone know which other bikes sump plugs would go into my FZ400? its like …
