hi guys I have just brought a fantastic FJ 1200 and for some reason the oil light keeps coming on for no good reason but must be one of course, its got plenty of oil in it, I have noticed that all the oil vanishes from the inspection window and only sometimes when i turn the engine off it might come all flooding back to the inspection window..... Could it be a oil pump problem?? I dont think its electrical as both ignition and oil lights come on and then go off once started up. I have gave the bike back to the garage when i got her from and waiting for him to get back to me and mean while i thought id check you lot out about it...... any answers will…

Hello. I have got a 1986 XJ600 (pre-Diversion). I bought it from a mate who kept it in his garden, not moving, for a year. It has had some work done on it but is not MOT'd taxed and on the road. But I still have some problems. Riding home from a rally I was really enjoying it getting used to going quicker etc and managed to go up to a certain speed which is the fastest I've ever gone. Then I got problems. The bike started lurching back and forth and the rev counter was going all over the place. Bit scary, I slowed down and it kept doing it until it loudly backfired and seemed okay. I kept going and it happened again so I made sure I didn't go too quick the rest of the …

First i want to say that i really appreciate all the help i have gotten from this forum over the past couple of years. You guys rock, and you basically got my vintage bike on the road for me! I try to help out with advice for others when i can, and i hope it makes a difference for those people. My 1988 FZ600 has had issues with the wiring for as long as i can remember but i finally got the courage to tear apart the wiring harness and using a wiring diagram thanks to Clymer, i tied up all loose ends with the electricals! - so i thought. I figured out the main problem with the starter being super slow and stopping and squealing is the battery not being juiced enough. …

i have been looking all over for electrical parts for my old 1988 FZ600. Needless to say OEM wants more than the bike is worth (even Restored) and aftermarket manufacturers have a very limited selection. However i did manage to find two sites actually that seem to have a huge selection of parts for older yamahas! ricksmotorsportselectrics.com and electrosport.com! they have rebuilt parts and brand new parts. Does anyone know anything bad or have really good experiences with these companies? Anybody know a few other places to get electrical parts???

Hi all, my first post here. I need some help I am getting an 86 Virago XV700 and it is in need of a speedo cable. I tried to search on the net but no luck, is this going to be incredibly difficult or a rather easy deal? I am mechanically inclined as I have restored a car and have done weekend warrior type mechanical work for a long time. I get the Bike Sunday and I plan on trying to get it fixed asap. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks Robb

  12. Alright Folks, (First post bear with me lol) Right here goes - I had my r6 last year and because of my age I had to have it restricted, these models being carb it was the simple washers on the inlet manifolds restricting the input of the bike and it used to "choke" as I describe it the bike at 10000 RPM and used to make the bike top about 100ish. However I derestricted the bike a few months ago and the bike was as it should have been, like it was when I rode it before it was restricted however it has been off the road a month or so and I have just recently put it back together and been out on it, riding it yesterday I noted that either my riding has improved without be…

hi iv got a Sachs roadster which uses the xv 125 engine the problem is my exhaust is f****d and the only replacement part i can find is the front header leading to the twin mufflers which means I'm still in need of the rear header/down pipe coming from the rear cylinder. now, iv striped the bike down and the top of the pipe (about 6 inch from where it links to the engine) is sound so i thaught if i cut it, then put on flexy pipe and tack weld it (to replace the cut out section ) then wrap it in exhaust wrap and ties it should be spot on ?? but i need to know if this would pas an M O T cause thats what all this work is for and il be damned if I'm forkin out ov…

The clutch seems to have seized on the 1980 DT 250 I'm trying to resurrect. I've only just got the bike but it's obvious that it hasn't been touched for a few years. Think it was exposed to the elements for a deal of time too... I found some water in the crankcase - together with something that may have been oil. I've removed the clutch cable (which was seized too) and tried to move the push lever manually as if i was disengaging the clutch - won't move. It will move backwards about a quarter of a turn (which seems normal). I've used some multi-grips to try and turn it - but haven't put too much pressure on - in case i break something. Not sure what the next step sh…

Hey all, Please help: Replaced the points and condenser and set the timing (ta for previous advice on that) and was running pretty sweet. I also got hold of a bigger plastic tank and had to repair a couple of holes. Was running great up to the servo to fill up then crapped itself 50m after that. Just stopped. Would start but then stop with any throttle. Then nothing. Luckily that's not far from home. It has spark. I pulled off the carby as I was thinking that some water maybe got in there (I was checking for leaks in the tank before I put it on but thought I dried it out ok) and also thinking that maybe the inlet valve might not be stopping the fuel coming int…

I managed to get hold of an 08 exhaust from ebay for £40 so i thought id mess about with that and keep mine stock if i need to swap it back. Performance system range from about £300 upwards so for 40 quid, it was worth a shot. I had a friend cut and reweld the stock exhaust to see what he could do with it. Heres some pictures of the standard system. Above is a picture of what looks like a restrictor, this bulged section contained a honeycomb like cross section. To the right, you can just see the small tube coming off the exhaust, this is the fresh air bypass tube which comes from the valve on the bike. Aftermarket exhaust wont have this tu…

Just bought the bike with messy tank pad dots and my lovely wife has just bought be a new YZF R tank pad for my birthday! The question is, once I have peeled the dots off and a sticky mess is left behind, what do I get the sticky mess off with that won't damage the paintwork? Very basic question I know but don't want the paint to peel off too!

  20. Hello I have a question regarding a 74' Yamaha TX500. I have just had it serviced (its been sitting for 25 years). Carbs rebuilt, one new (used new) ignition coil, and a cleaned gas tank. The bike runs fairly well, but I'm having two problems. First, when the bike gets good and warm, it idles to 4000 and wont come down for quite some time, and when it does it stalls. Second, there is white smoke with a gassy smell, quite a bit of it, coming from the cylinder head/crankcase breather tube located on the left side, top, and back of the engine (routed down under the bike), also only occurs when she's good and warm. Any ideas?
