this issue is regarding a xj600s 1996. i have a strange clunking noise when i pull away and in second gear. thought it might be the chain slipping. so i lifted the back end and tried to spin the back wheel to find a broken tooth. but the wheel doesnt spin freely and makes a clunking noise as i role it round manually. i checked to see if the brake pad is touching the disc and one side is and the other is 1mm off. not sure if this is normal. i have no idea what the issue is and dont fancy getting ripped off for something that i could do myself. any ideas welcome. cheers david

I just replaced the chain and sprockets on my SR125 and did the brake shoes while I had the back wheel off. The brake shoes where tricky to get in but I was told it's normal for them to be quite tight. I put it all back together and started it up and the back wheel was stiff which I expected because the shoes where tight, so I gave it a bit of throttle thinking that it would loosen up, the back brake was as loose as it would go but still connected. And it did turn the wheel so I thought I'd take it up the road but when I started moving it stopped after a few feet and now there's no power getting the the back wheel. I can put it in gear and accelerate on the stand b…

Right where to start.... If you dont remember this post then I will start again.... I recently put my bike into a garage to get my carbs balanced...cost £65.00 (needed plugs) ... Was told when I picked the bike up that the compression was low and the valves needed done... Soooo after a long thought and thinking will I keep the bike, i decided to go for it.... Sent the bike back in 5 weeks ago, cost £422!!! I got the bike back yesterday morning... Rode it back from garage to my house (7-8 miles) but getting a misfire and like ...how to say this, when you open up throttle it feels like its struggling. So I thought it just needs to be treated gently and give it …

Hi guys My FZR hasnt been moved for a few weeks. I dragged it out today and it started without too much fuss so I was very happy. Kicked up the side stand... no problem. Knocked it into first... clutch held in and it pulls forward. Apply the brake.. its stalls. It seems like the clutch is slipping slightly so when i brake to hold it stationary it cuts out. Is this just because its been stood, or do I need to break out the tools? Cheers Pete

Hey erm yeah i got conned on my bike   , It ran for 2 weeks then found out the 3rd sparkplug was stuck and wasnt working, i got it sent off to get fixed and after a month or 2 found out it had no compression in 3 of the pistons and something like 45 in 1. Whats this all about? Can any one help? Also this is going to sound retarded but is it the top end of bottom end that needs to be changed, cause i found a complete top end for sale but wasnt sure if it would sort the compression out? Cheers Danny

hi all I'm the proud owner of a 2004 xvs 125 drag star that has a knackerd engine! : ( a selection of the parts have covered less than 50 miles (as i spent 600 quid on new parts then the engine went bang) now to the point.... what should i do with it? i could sell it but id have to sell it without an engine i could strip it and flog the parts but id have spare parts left over or i could build something using the parts and just get hold of an engine just to let you know it cost me £4000 brand new, and iv spent another £1000 fixing it! so I'm wanting at least £700 for it plus i owe my m8 £200 for finding out what went bang, and storage.…

just a simple quickie here, the sparks from my (not got it running yet) yb100 is few and far between, and weak at that when they do appear. gonna get a new ignition coil, but the ones online all have just 1 wire, whereas the original has 2. is it just a case of connect the positive, and ignore the (now redundant) ground black wire? cheers for any help, atocp

hey, I just bought my first bike ('87 DT125 LC Mk3) and it was running fine for the first few weeks, but then I was away on holiday and when I came back it was having problems. Specifically, the engine starts fine in neutral but as soon as you move into gear, it cuts out. It definately seems to just cut out rather than stall because the bike doesn't lurch forward or anything so it doesn't obivously seem like a clutch problem (at least to me ). Any thoughts on what I should check? I know there are various safety cut-off switches (eg side stand) so maybe one of these is malfunctioning? But I wasn't sure if these switches cutoff the engine when it's in gear or just …

It just gets better. the guy I am trying to rewire his bike xs650, now wants a micro switch for his lights. I went to maplins and got a tiny three position switch. the guy said I would need a relay to work the lights or the switch will burn out. GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok so here is the deal, I need to fit this switch to work on/off of lights, side light, dip and main. I dont think one switch will do it, so may need two. Any electrical wizards out there that can reply with a shetch of how to achive this? or has anyone done this in the past? thanks for all your help so far, look forward to your theories and answers. Bazza.

Hi Guys, I have a 96 SR125 which was starting ok a while ago, I haven't started it for 6 months but it has been under cover. I tried starting it the other day but it wouldn't catch. Seems to turnover ok. I've since tried replacing the spark plug but that made no difference, seems to be a strong smell of fuel around the spark plug. Battery seems fine but will put on charge anyway. Not sure what I should try next. Thanks Paul.
