  4. Hi everyone I'm a 38 year old new biker. I was on a scooter for 2 years but always wanted a 'proper bike'. I am now the owner of a YBR 125 Custom. I've only had it for 6 weeks and I bought it brand new. I am absolutely hooked. It's great on a nice day to just go out for a ride. I never did that on my scooter. I really like Yamaha and would love to own a V-max. I don't think my back could handle the sportier bikes so it's cruisers all the way. Unfortunately, every new bikers nightmare happened to me yesterday. I came off the bike for the first time since I started riding. I've been dreading it, knowing that it would one day happen to me. I think I pressed too hard on the front brake in the wet. I heard a skid noise and then I went under. I'm ok save a few bruises and some mild aching. My poor new bike has taken the biggest bashing though. Goona cost best part of £1000 to fix. Still I'm glad it's over and I'll get my bike back in a week. This has not in any way detered me from my mission to do my full test next summer. I'm eager to get back in the saddle and rebuild my dented confidence. I will be more of an advice asker than giver at first but I am slowly learning. Hopefully that will change in the future.

  7. Back in the day my honda cb125 broke down the day before my test so I borrowed my uncles honda 50, one ride round the block, emergency stop, read the number plate from about 10 ft, a couple of easy questions on highway code then straight round to my mates to by his 650 BSA. It was tough in those days

  11. There is something unfathomably sad and pathetic about this. If I had an abiding, burning desire to own a Harley and I couldn't afford it, I wouldn't even wear an item of clothing with "HD" logo on it. This betrays a child-like emotional underdevelopment, a bit like scrawling "Harley Davidson" on your Raleigh chopper bicycle when you're 11.

  14. Don't know hiw much the engine's changed in 32 years but my TR1 is a 980cc V-Twin that I believe went into the XV and XVS models. This 32 year old engine will pull me along the road at tick over revs in 2nd gear happily. 0 -30 is just a slight flick of the wrist in 1st and, although she complained like a bitch, she pulled away at a roundabout in 3rd when I forgot to change down (OK I know I'm a pillock but it only happened once).

  15. Yeah people do neglect the fuel cap for some reason, it only gets used when they fill up and then forgotten. Old bikes should have the thing stripped and checked "just in case", yours is a prime example of what to expect after 20 years of never looking.
