OK I`ve decided I must do this. This is the target result. Spotted a likely candidate for this project today. Don`t even have to paint the tank.

Finally after 10 months of blood, sweat and $'s the 1973 DT3 is finished. I bought it literally as a frame with a box of parts, which included the engine, seat, and tank. I had to find out what lots of part were as I went along. Like another member said the Yamaha parts list is the most valuable piece of assistance you can get. It's been a steep learning curve and have enjoyed most of it, but the final product is far better than I could have imagined. I was doing it to sell but just cant bring myself to do it, so I'll use it for a little while :-) Hope you like :-) more pics http://s1073.photobucket.com/user/oldfkr/library/1973%20Yamaha%20DT3

As if I didn't have enough to do between helping plan a wedding, a full class load this summer, preparing for next school year, grand jury service, etc., I decided that I needed to rescue my first motorcycle from my Granddad's barn. Here she is, I plan to restore her to most of her former glory - running, everything working (lights, speedo, BRAKES), and reliable so that it can be a learner bike for my little girl (eventually). The good news - it runs. The bad news - I wouldn't even let someone I hated ride it, because nobody deserves to be killed by a Honda Trail 70. Here she is, barn fresh and still smelling like horse crap. First step: Clean. Second Step,…

I traded an aluminum boat I got from the garbage dump for this yamaha and a lil minibike. To be fair the boat was in very good condition and had no leaks... just needed to be freshened up. The DT, after a carb cleaning (boiled in water and lemon juice for about 20 minutes) runs like a top... Of course the clutch was no where near being adjusted and I could move the actuator lever with my fingers. Adjusted the clutch now to where it works properly.. and I must say the clutch basket and assembly is just like new in there. I did manage to rip the side cover gasket, but it's mostly up at the top so I'm just gonna leave it like that till fall. I got this bike so I …

Hey peeps, dragged my old mini up from my old base last week, it was looking a bit sorry for itself, one of its eyes was missing, various garden life living in and around it. after a few days in the workshop it is now alive! (although i have discovered that the used starter motor i bought 2 years ago is knackered), had a slight issue when the ignition coil exploded and sprayed everything with boiling hot oil, but other than that Mumbles is well on his way , i ditched those crappy sealed-beam headlights and picked up some bright shiny H4 units at a landrover sortout for £3 each, result!, the bonnet still lifts up as normal but you can also flip the whole front e…

This is how the Beast looked on Saturday morning And this is what it looks like now Not a bad weekend's work methinks. The photo's don't do the colour justice it's actually red! If looking up colours floats your boat it's a Toyota colour called Brackish (not a spelling mistake) Red Effect the code is 3R0. The next nice weekend we get the tank's coming off to get sprayed and the rest of the frame will be done.

Hi, I've already put this on BCF but thought it would be more interesting to you guys. I got this yesterday after an impulse bid secured me what I thought would be a big regret but after a bit of TLC it's come up pretty good and I don't regret it at all. It's only had 1 previous owner from the Isle of White and has been cared for pretty well by the looks of it. Everything is original and my aim is to keep it this way, keep the majority of the paint original and get it MOT'd in the near future. I bought it knowing it doesn't run but after having a quick look over it I think it's likely to be just a battery replacement job. I took the points and air filter covers of…

Hi there, I just picked up a Chappy LB50 that had been severely abused. I pulled every single component of the bike apart for a thorough cleaning and inspection. When putting the oil pump back together I had a washer left over (this is never good). I checked all the part schematics but none of them show the internals of the pump (when you get to the plunger and spring mechanism). I am looking for someone who has pulled the oil-pump completely apart (or has an old pump and willing to pull it apart) and can give me some guidance on where this 1/2 inch washer might fit within the oil-pump chamber. The hole of the washer is about 1/4 inch. When I slide it against the plun…

Fitted carb and tank..put in some premix and had a go at starting it. After quite a few kicks went for some quickstart. Couple kicks later it started. Not running too bad but not wanting to idle so fiddled with idle screw. But after she idles herself warm and I switch off it battles to start again. Some carb adjustment maybe?

Not sure how this will all pan out, nor how long it will take, but let this be the start of my latest little project. Im a newbie round here but Ive been lurking for a while and learning lots from the very knowledgeable guys on the forum here. Undoubtedly I'll be calling for advice on the hows, why's and wherefores as this proceeds, so let me thank you all well in advance!! So, the story begins............ As I mentioned in my intro I bought my first DT in 1979, brought it home in the crate and built it up myself. I kept that bike for a total of 26 years before regrettably part-ex'ing it for something which has long since been and gone! We learn b…

Hi everyone, I have decided to restore my dad's old YB100. It has been lying around in the garage for 10 years or so. I would also like to mention that I have absolute ZERO experience regarding bikes or engines, this is my first ever project. OK enough with the intro, let's get started: Original condition: The bike appears to be in a pretty bad shape:

Here is a 1979 xs 250 that I picked up for £100. The plan is to get it up and running as cheaply as possible, and then at a later date maybe flat track it. The guy I got it off had started to hack away at the frame to make a bobber so after making sure I have a running engine suring up the back end will be my first job.

Hey peeps have picked up another little project to keep me occupied, Project mong has gone, the FTO has sold and hopefully by next week the Fireblade will have a new home aswell. Bought this from a dealer who got it as a part-ex, its a non-runner, previous owner said he was riding along one day and it just stopped, he then proceeded to take the side panel off but because he didnt know what he was doing he was unable to fix it, on further inspection i found it has spark and fuel but no compression... i suspect a top-end rebuild is needed (maybe just a rebore and oversize piston), also trying to source a new floor panel as the one on it is cracked Wa…
