I will shortly be replacing the crank seals on my DT400E and I thought that whilst the crankcase covers are off I'd get them cleaned up, any dents / scuffs repaired and repainted to original (or as close as) spec. Does anyone know of any company's around the Northwest (UK), preferably Manchester / Stockport way that could do this work to a good standard. And at the same time, do the barrel and cylinder head? Also, what would be the best finish for the crankcase covers? Powder coat, enamel paint, something else?? Same with the barrel and head. Thanks

Hi all Im just about ready to send the crankshaft from my xt 550 away to get a new con rod fitted. Now the angel on one shoulder says buy a new crank pin. the devil on the other shoulder says if there is no play on the original pin, your fitting a new baring anyway, refit it. Im trying to keep the costs down as this bike is starting to burn a hole in my pocket. anyone got any advice for me ??

Hi Folks I'm thinking of restoring a shed find I now have - it 's a 1978 RS125 DX that belonged to my brother in law. I'm stripping the engine at the moment and for starters the clutch basket is broken and there are other internal bits missing. Will any of the engine parts from the RXS fit the RS ? I have come across an RXS being sold for parts and might go and take a look if they do. Many thanks John

hi all Im on re building the engine for my xt 550 as I was replacing the piston I found that the little end bush was well past its best. the replacment piston and pin are second hand but ther are in fine condition and the replacment con rod is brand new. the problem is when you slid the pin into con rod there is play between them, very slight but there is play. im thinking that maybe that play is nessesary as when the engine heats up to operating temp and parts expand that clearance will be taken up, i suppose that if the two parts are a perfect fit they would lock up at opperating temp anone got any advice on this for me would be great.

Well, it's been a while since I've been on here. But I have acquired a new project bike, picked up at a very VERY reasonable price! It was a runner, but hasn't been started for a while. Needs an exhaust system, as there isn't one on it at all! New battery also required, and a screen. Might even treat it to some fresh fuel!!! Then I'll see if it starts and runs. Not sure quite what I'll do to it. Maybe just a fresh coat of paint in my fave colour! But I'm always open to suggestions as to what I can or should do with it!

Picked this up the other week, needed a fair bit of a tickle up, loom was totally buggered, and it wouldn't start, and needed a couple of panels. This is how I got the bike I was going to go to town on it and strip it right down, then do a total rebuild, but my eldest daughters boyfriend has just done his CBT, and I said he can use it till he does his direct access. so basically I'm getting it tidied up so it's roadworthy, and through the MOT, I've pretty much got all the bits I needed such as panels, sprayed up tank, re-upholstered seat, a servo for the powervalve, and a few other bits and bobs. Managed to sort all the loom out, new Iridium spark plug, air filt…

For some very frustrating reason i can't copy pictures. There's one as my profile picture. I want to know what model this bike is. There's a plate on the frame with these numbers like this: MA1056 117450 LK7 SOLO L2 100365 8 - 1 - 97 48569 And the number on the right side of the motor is L2-100365. Anyone got any ideas??

Hello. I'm *koop*,I live in Yorkshire.I have a 1979 DT250MX, registered in 1980 on a W, It's white with blue stickers on the tank, I think this because the other DT250MX i have has no points(CDI) and a smaller tank, That is also on a w reg 1980, I maybe wrong on both accounts here. so any help would be great. I will try and put some photos of the bike on here if i can.

  12. So firstly, Hi, and thanks for having me, if i should be posting this somewhere else, then would a very kind moderator point me in the right direction? thanks I just acquired my very first grown up "box of bits," in the form of a good old YZ80, well some of one anyway. that most vital of parts - the engine is not there! it seems like the bike has not changed much over the years, does anybody have any idea whether the frame / set up will easily take a much later engine? For example looking at the mounts on a 1998 they seem identical. Anybody successfully tried a later engine, or should i just keep looking for a '85?

So I bought A DT and my first reaction was ... this is slow and gutless! My Gilera vx 125 would be flying past ! Bike wouldnt really ride above 50 mph and not rev past 6 1/2 k unless you was in first or 2nd. So i did some reading and thought uh'oh this is the model they heavily restricted. So did the usual, checked pv was ok. Checked air filter, Checked plug Unplugged reed switch from clocks and wrapped up air\water tight and placed someone else dry. Now when riding the bike if i took it up to 7k through first and 2nd 3rd but in 4th would start to feel like its hitting a rev limiter, bike would try to rev up but is going duh duh duh…

  17. Started by Sir Puma,

So I've been working on this bike for a bit now. I started with a much needed oil and differential fluid change and replaced the spark plugs. That got it running. But since I had so much fuel in the oil I ordered a new fuel tap. Just got it in the other day and replaced it yesterday. I've got new Dunlop D404 tires on order for it and should have them Monday or Tuesday. That will give me more confidence in riding it on the highways. The brakes are ok for now but they'll need replacing by next spring or summer. But I've noticed while riding as I get it up to around 40 or 50 mph, with rpm around 5000-6000 in the mid gear range it seems like the clutch is slipping.…
