Hey guys, been a while... but I've been out enjoying the new ride and the awesome weather here we're finally getting. So far so good with issues, some small things here and there... but just recently I started having charging issues. Long story short, battery died while riding, bump starting wasn't working, had to disconnect the headlights in order for the bike to start with a bump, got it home, inspected wiring and found this: So I cleaned it up, added some new lengths of wire with dual walled waterproof insulated heat shrink tubing and heat shrink connectors. The RR appeared ok, but I guess it could be shorted out on the inside, wondering if I s…

  4. I started work on my second bike a few weeks ago, still not decided what to do with it yet. Just thought I’d put it back together after stripping parts from it over the last few years, every time I had a problem with first bike I’d pull something off this one, even if it was only to diagnose a problem then not put it back, anyway refitted the carbs, coils, cdi rectifier, fueltap, also managed to get the front brake unseized. Tried to start it today and it fired up fine except only on one cylinder, I tested the coil by switching it with the other one then tried to trace the wires back 1st wire only went back along the loom a short way before it split back to the other …

SORRY it's no yammy. If this thread is not welcome please let me know and i'll take it down. Well as you know i got my hands on an old DR650 about a month ago. The other day i noticed that the fuel tank was leaking Not too sure what i am going to be doing with the bike, to be honest. This thread may go little further than a few bits and pieces being fixed up, but that would be too easy. As we all know life isn't usually that straight forward. So lets see how this one goes. The jobs i know that need doing so far are: tank repair and repaint new seat cover spot lights POSSIBLY some kind of bashplate/sumpguard Exhaust needs painting mirrors Top box …

Thought I'd start a post about my attempts at rebuilding my LC. First off the garage needed a bit of clearing, spot the LC half way down on the right hand side. Cleared a space at the bottom end of the garage and made a shelf out of an old wardrobe and dug out the crankcases The cases have been taken to Everything But Bikes in Chester for cleaning and I should pick them up Friday. It's a start on a long journey

What she looked like when I got it. Started stripping today..seat tank exhaust..carb. Air filter not in very good shape. Carb..bike idles but missing badly at mid throttle. Previous guy had the carb overhauled by a neandarthal who stuck a nasty piece of wire to accelerator pump which I`m sure must be causing problems. Tail light bracket has an ugly repair job on it. Thinking should maybe make a new one from steel. Monoshock full of oil. Can`t see it so good in the pic but all around the exhaust port its full of carbon soot. Suppose gasket a bit suspect. But could it also be she`s be running rich or could there be a valve problem? Exhaust has l…

  11. Started by Noise,

Well just picked up my mates XJ900 that he wants me to fix as he snapped a chunk off of the cylinder head. Only thing is i forgot how much of a heap of crap it really was till i turned up with the van. The brand new motec 4-1 exhaust he's bought for it looks 10x more expensive than the actual bike, but as like us all this is his baby and im more than happy to help.him ride it again. Thing is he only thinks I'm doing the engine but in reality im going to fix the paint and make it look as good as the day he got it. Polish up the metal work, fix the hand levers as he only has half a brake lever, clear coat the fuel tank and remove the rust on most of the parts. Once i…

Hi Guys, well after some nagging and also out of sheer bordom at work i thought i'd start a thread of my new projectits gunna take a while to finish as most of the big stuff will happen over the winter period when she is off the road. Well it all started last year when i past my CBT and bought my self a XVS 125 Dragstar from Fowlers in bristol but due to me wanting something different i then set about turning that into a bobber and hand building pretty much every thing on it from the handle bar risers (my mate built them) all the way to me doing the seat click link to see it now for sale http://www.vandjsuperbikes.co.uk/new_bike_detail.php?bike_id=565&type=used&amp…

  13. Started by Jinx,

My Dragstar is currently looking sorry for itself in the garage, in pieces. It is having a re-spray and some of the chrome is going black. I am after a rear fender conversion, I don't like the standard one sitting so high. I want something to sit more flush with the tyre. Any recommendations on where to go or what I am actually looking for? Thank you!

  15. Started by AWA,

As part of this restoration I decided to have the engine rebuilt. I took the engine to a small shop about a year ago. The mechanic had a multitude of personal problems and could not complete the job. I knew he had started to tear it apart so I went to recover it so I could complete the job. The engine was completely torn apart and the parts were in small unlabeled containers. So now I have all the parts and pieces and know idea of where to start. The transmission seems to be intact. I have purchased all new bearings and seals. Piston and rings. I have the parts manuals and the service manual but they don't thoroughly explain all you would need to know about rebuildin…

This will be an ongoing build thread of my 1986 FZ600 project. I have yet to decide on a name...so that is still TBD. I mainly just wanted a place to track my progress...get help along the way... and maybe get some feedback from other enthusiasts. Here she is, the day I got her home, I couldn't lift it off the truck by myself, but I was so excited I had to hop on and pretend I was cruising anyway.

  20. I am changing the oil filter and discovered small aluminium shavings on the outside of the filter and in the filter housing. I have checked both timing and clutch side covers and they are free of the shavings. Any ideas where they may be coming from. All suggestions grateful received.
