Got sick of the hodge podge of different paint colors and scratches showing all the different layers of colors so i sanded down and started fresh. Volkswagen tornado red on the tank, fenders, side covers. (no orange peel after clear coat so didn't cut or buff) VHF "hi-temp roll cage/chassis" gloss black on the frame, engine, and exhaust. Hope you all approve.

Some moron damaged my son's bike when it was standing outside of the school, probably by backing a trailer on it. The bike didn't fall over (it's rather steady because the main stand and the both wheels have full contact at all times because the rear wheel is a bit larger than standard), but they bent the rim and probably the steering crown as well. Bloody annoying, I'd say! Especially since the insurance has a £300 part that you have to pay yourself even if it's somebody else's fault if you can't find them. If the school only had the surveilance cameras on the parking lot that you brits have everywhere! Still since we'll get paid for new parts and labour and I do the wo…

Evening all, I recently purchased a 175Mx - 1978, engine had apparently had both top & bottom end rebuild but the issue I have is 2 stroke oil coming from the crankcase breather pipe. I've checked the oil pump clearance which was 0.014", removed shims to take clearance back to 0.008" but I still have the problem ? Any help would be appreciated - Dave.

Declared manufactured 1988.Can anyone help please to Identify model and correct year to inable spares etc. to be obtained. Thank You.

My son changed his sprockets and chain, and he thought he had fastened all bolts and stuff. He was wrong. Luckily he wasn't dead wrong, though. He's still alive. But he obviously didn't secure the bolt to the torque arm, because that came loose, so the rod became a coil around the spacer and locked up his back wheel. He managed to keep the bike in his lane and stopped, but there was a bit of damage. So I need parts for the bike. The main thing is the brake arm, which snapped off. The rear wheel spindle and spacer are bent as well. Finally I need the rod, which is easy, since Yambits has those. But that's all they have. Does anybody know where I can find the brake arm, spi…

Hi again all, Been tinkering with the bike, now finally got the engine rebuilt, back in and set up, and the new spokes for the rear wheel arrive tomorrow, so should have it ready to ride by tuesday. However, the final touches are being purchased and put on (tax disc holder, new exhaust gasket etc). But I was looking into a side stand, as mine doesn't have one. Can I ask, did the YB100 come with a side stand when manufactured? Several sites seem to sell the "Side stand bolt" or "Side stand spring". I understand that the spring is probably just the same as the main stand (maybe slight size difference), but I can't seem to find the stand anywhere, so why sell the bolts…

I'm pretty new here, so bear with me. I'm sure this must have already been covered but I'm not smart enough to find the thread. I'm changing the oil filter for the first time, having recently acquired a 1994 XJ900F. It appears that the housing is about 4mm too wide to slip out between the downpipes. The manual I have to hand (covering models '83 - '90) says I have to remove the no.2 downpipe. I've read elsewhere that I should be able to 'twist it to one side first - you don't have to take the pipes off'. Any advice much appreciated. I don't want to remove the no. 2 downpipe unless I really have to. Many thanks.

fuel keeps leaking out of the overflows for my mukuni carbs on my 76 xs500. just replaced the float needles and seats and noticed the floats were filled with fuel. tried resoldering them, but fuel still flows out of the overflows. does anyone know where i can get new floats for these carbs? are there other / newer floats that fit / interchange with the stock ones? any help on this would be appreciated. maybe even just the correct part number.

A friend of mine wants to get her first dirt bike. She is looking for something old and cheap, so im trying to get her on to an old yamaha. The problem Is she is only 5"0' tall 100lbs. She doesnt even comfortably fit on my DT175. What are some recommendations for a fun learner bike for someone that short? It will be used almost exclusively off-road. We found one 1993 RT100 for sale, but have not been able to check it out yet. Or whats involved in lowering the suspension on an older bike like the late 70's to early 80's DT's or TT's?

I have managed to find a set with spindle, spacer and nut that I think can fit my son's RD 125 DX '81 spoke wheel, but I would like to be sure. It's from an RD 200 DX, 1E8 model. Shouldn't that fit our bike? I think so, but I would like to be sure.

The spacer on my son's bike was damaged, sort of welded into the chain tightener (which is not the correct word, but I'm sure you know what I mean). We had to saw that off (along with the spindle). I can perhaps use the spindle from an old RD 350 I have laying around in parts, but the spacer doesn't fit. Does anybody know the correct length of that? There are companies here that can machine it easily, as long as they know the measurements. The diameter is no problem since I have at least one undamaged part of it, but the length was impossible to measure exactly before cutting because it was partly inside the tightener. So can anybody tell me that? A source for a new spind…

I'm shopping for my first bike, and I found a 1971 R5 for sale locally. It looks in very good shape, with one small gas tank dent, and possibly a new battery required. All original otherwise, orange/white paint job. Seller wants $2500. A few questions. 1. Any ideas on the market values for these R5's? I'm new to Yamaha vintage (looking mostly at Honda's previously). 2. Where can I find more info on these R5's? There seems to be hardly anything in these vintage forums. I can't find much else googling either. Is there decent parts availability? Thanks for any opinions! Jason

Basically, when riding my xt for more than 20-30 minutes, and especially at large dual carriageway speeds 50-55mph the engine smokes tremendously, this has been determined to be a small oil leak burning around/on the engine. The problem is... The smoke comes from around the top of the engine, near the exhaust gasket but for some reason a lot of the oil is found right at the bottom of the engine, it's hard to find the right source of the leak as it is but im 90% sure it's around the top, but could it really flow that far to the very bottom of the engine? I need advice, help!!
