  2. Just passed my a2 test the other day so i'll be on this beast for 2 years until I move up to a nice 500 or something, always been into classic bikes and this falled nicely under the temporary 33bhp limit! Got its MOT in a few days so havent had a chance to properly go on it yet, just up and down my road. Feels very punchy and for a 250 the torque is pretty fierce. Just wanted to know if any of you fine people have had any experiences with these before? either positive or negative! thanks.

After years of wanting this project, I purchased a 1979 DT125F today for the grand sum of $100. I know, I know...the $100 money pit, right? Figured I should jump on it while my husband was excited about it too. Anyway, the bike is complete with the exception of mirrors and is in pretty decent shape. The engine is in a box and appears to be all there. The seller bought it to build for his kid, but just never got around to it. Plus I think the kid wanted the shiny new bike that he was sitting on in the garage instead. The bike came with a DT175 top end in addition to the 125. Does anyone know if the 175 top end will work on the 125 bottom end? Any modifications …

With my THIRD project on the way, I need to try to locate a source for the air box joints or rubbers for a '72 CS5. The one bloke who had them on ebay wanted $125 USD per and I just couldn't do it. Anyone seen these available anywhere, or have serviceable spares they would care to part with? Item #7.

Hi All, I thought I'd pop on to ask a quick question about restoring the spoked wheels of my Yamaha YB100. The first thing I would like to know would be more of an opinion, do you think the wheels actually need restoring? I will - in the future - take them apart and acid dip them, buff and polish and (depending on the extortionate costs) have them chromed, but for now I wonder if they are in ok condition to carry on with. I don't have an MOT for it, in fact the last one i think was around 15 years ago and was wondering if that is something that is looked at hard? Condition of spokes "rusty" = "dangerous"? I have attached (I hope successfully) a few photos just to s…

Hey guys, this is my first post so ill head over to the intro forum and formerly introduce myself after this. I recently got two parts bikes for free with the ambition of making one working bike out of them. I want your guys advice on which is a better resto project. Bike one 1975 DT175. Pros: Runs and drives currently with alot of parts robbed from the second bike. Kind of like the chrome springs and reservoirs on the rear suspension. came with a service manual(usually a bad sign) good rubber Cons: Electrical is a nightmare. I really believe a PO tried to get all the electrical accesories to run straight of the magneto. And he Used black wire and wire nuts…

The CS5 arrived from North Dakota yesterday and I'm already tinkering. The charge light won't extinguish and the starter won't turn the engine over. Removed the stator and found the brushes near the limit, so trying to find some to replace those. Also trying to remove the armature from the crankshaft. I don't have the "puller bolt" the manual specifies, and the bolts I have seem too short. Has anyone removed one of these? It seems that whatever bolt you use will actually be a "pusher", bottoming on the inside of the crank where the flyweight bolt threads in and pushing the armature off the tapered shaft. Is this correct, anyone? Do I just need a longer bolt?

So I have been driving my 75 dt175 for the last week or so and thought that it was great. The power band is very smooth but it is all in all a very slow bike. Today the magneto shit the bed so I decided to focus on the 78 dt175mx for a day. Got it up and running and holy hell. That thing runs like a raped date. You hit that power band and it puts you back in the seat a good bit. Should there be this big a difference between the two bikes? Or do i have some power loss issues in the DT?

Hi I'm just starting a rebuild on a 79 SR500. The alloy wheels need a good polish which is gonna take me a while, but can I remove the spokes one at a time and replace them without having to jig it up etc? I intend to race the bike next season if I can get it ready??????

I have a yamaha 175 enduro DT built in 1978. It is a gem because it has been kept in a garage and runs great. The problem is with the electrical system. It has never worked properly when idle, everything goes dim. at higher RPM's everything works fine. The 'engine start' switch has no function either. is this a typical problem because I have tried almost everything? What is going on?
