For the Vintage Yamahas

Hello all Some may remember me from awhile back, basically was given a DT175MX - in a very bad way. Plan was to slowly get i back to a usable condition, for greenlaning etc Anyways, I have started to strip it down forks are removed - not yet split engine removed partly split swing arm is a write off, its rusted through in places an is now like a spider web, my question is....Mine has a box section (square) swing arm, could i fit the round tubed swingarm? either seem to be as rare as hens teeth - do they all rot or something??

Hi there, ive recently been given an XT 500 (1980) by my uncle! It wasn't ridden or started in 3-4 years and it's just recently been in for a major service! I replaced the carburetor and headlamp and fork seals. I also put in a new spark plug. She runs!!!! she starts after 4-5 kicks and runs(not smoothly) and I can ride her around but as I accelerate she loses power, coughs and back fires. I've been told it's the points and timing so I will have a look at that tomorrow and hope for the best! Id love to know what everyone thinks and what else the problem could be! And could someone give me directions on how to set …

  5. Hi guys, i have just found a few old bikes in a abandoned garage includind a couple of old Yamahas. There is a gold and white 1970 plate Yam 250, which i thought was a yds7. But having looked on the net, it seems that they were gold and black in colour. Is it also the case that the yds7 wasn't made till 71 and for only one year. I as thinking it could be a dx250 as they came in gold and white, but info on them is very hard to find. Any help would be very appreciated. ps can't reduce picture file size to post here.

I bought a 75 DT 125 a year ago and been working on it here and there. I am not very familiar with the electrical system on this bike but do have a service manual and am muddling my way through it best I can. It does not have a good battery in it right now so I have to have it hooked up to the charger to run. Should this bike start without a battery when it is kicked or does it have to have a power source to initially start, even when kicked? I am more familiar with the 2 strokes that have a mag. Once I get it started it will stay running without a power source as long as the RPMs are kept up a little. Ray,

Well i just thought i would share the latest creation, its a bit of a mongrel really and registered on a Q plate, the plan was to use some 360MX rims on a set of TT500 hubs, forks are YZ425 with XT500 bottoms , 16" rear shocks and a YZ rear mudguard together with TT headlight and an after tail light, 36mm carb and full supertrapp which certainly barks. I need to recover the seat which is next on the list. Cant wait to find out how this one goes. TTB

Hi All, I have just recently joined the forum, so this is my first post. I have a 1977 Yamaha DT175 why I am planning to restore over winter. My model is the 1G1 which was the last of the twin shock absorber models. I think some time during its life it has been 'Converted' to a field bike meaning all the electrics have been removed. What I'm after is a photograph of how the rear indicators are attached to the bike. My Haines manual does not show it very well. I think there should be a bracket(s) attached to the frame but mine has none and was wondering if these have ben removed as well. If anyone has this model of bike and would not mind, could you send me a close up…

I have a 1979 Xs 750 and with a standard exhaust and am completely refurbishing it. Already had a paint job done on the Tank, seat trims Side panels and Rear seat trim and its beautiful, my job for this year is to get the exhaust rechromed or chrome plated. The engine sounds awesome. If anybody has any bits for sale let me know as I have a mate who lives not far from and is doing the same bike as mine so any parts would be appreciated obviously in exchange for some cash. If there is anybody out there got a right hand side muffler that would be great. Speak soon Alun

I am sure this has come up many times before but the search on this site doesn't work. I want to replace my fuel tap with a simple on /off / reserve type instead of the vacuum type I have. The bike has trouble starting unless I use the prime mode on the tap for around 3 - 5 seconds. It will then fire and usually start. Once running every time you approach a junction you have the keep revving it or it just dies (lack of fuel). It will then not start unless I prime it again. I am sure many people have come across this but has anyone solved it ? would really appreciate some feedback thanks.

  13. We were asked to do an electronic ignition and 12 volt conversion to a points model DT175. Its very simple, we took one of our Electronic Magneto Control Units from our RMK-3 kit, re tweaked the timing curve for the smaller revvy 175 engine. Then we threw away the points and condenser. A quick rewind of the points source coil so instead of supplying 75 volts at 1.5 amps for points it now supplies 300 volts for CDi and hey-presto! We rewound the lighting coil to give much better low rev output. EMCU: We don't intend offering this as kit unless there is very susta…

We now have new CDi units for the later DT125/175MX models (G&H) available. These have just a brown wire from the generator and not brown and red to power the box. We are well aware that you can buy these on eBay for much less. However many customers have come to us asking if we made one as they eBay ones don't seem to work well, with mis firing or holding back being common complaints. The reason for this is very clear when you compare the Yamaha DT timing curve compared with the eBay units. If you go to our website and open up the CDi unit product, one of the pictures shows you the Yamaha timing compared to the cheapy unbranded box. The eBay box is actually a gener…

G'Day. Can anyone help with some advice on a possible cause of a misfire with my 1980 XS1100. The old girl idles fine ( most the time ), accelerates fine ( except from low rpm ), cruises fine ( most the time ), BUT it has a misfire, where it looses spark to both 1/4-2/3. Only momentarily but annoyingly , I've replaced TDI ,checked coils, checked negatives checked pick ups , checked timing - carbies are good and working fine, I'm sure it's in the ignition but can't find the problem - if I weren't already bald, I would be now. Any help would be great thanks

I recently picked up a Yamaha XS360C that was said to be running not long ago and just needed a battery. (We've all heard that) After I got a battery and charged it I plug it in and the bike has no spark and when pressing the "start" button in the right hand controls nothing happens. However if I bypass the solenoid the engine does turn but still doesent have spark. Please help? (Drewpy perhaps)

I'm rebuilding a 1978 yz125 I've have since I was 19 years old..I turned 55 this past Sunday. I bought it one year old in 1979. Having trouble figuring out what to do with the worn out top end though. I found a used barrel that mikes at 57.5 mm, and it will need to be bored. The problem is that the jug I received in the mail doesn't look like the one on the bike, and I think the one on the bike is a dt125 jug, and the different one I received is the right one! The one on the bike has 4 holes (to accomodate a socket) down through every fin, if that helps. I will post pix of each soon. The biggest problem is not knowing which next oversized piston kit to get, and how…
