For the Vintage Yamahas

Hello All. I have an 1976 RS 125. Both the steering and seat locks are damaged, but I have the original Key. If I get replacement locks, is it possible to remove the original lock barrels and replace these with the new locks so I can keep the original lock and not end up with two or three different keys. I have stripped the original seat lock down, but cannot work out how to remove the barrel. How do you remove the original barrel? Thanks.

I've been tootling along on a Suzuki GN125 for 6 years now but now is the time to get something a bit more interesting. I've decided on an RS125. I live on a narrow boat, I carry the bike on the back on a rack I designed and had custom built. Basically it's 4 inch steel channel, the bike is secured by a front fork sliding into another fork built into the rack. My first question: My existing bike has front forks of 32mm diameter. I've searched for ages on the internet but can't find out what the diameter of RS125 shocks are. Does anyone know? Second question: The tiller steering on my boat is likely to be interfered with by front footpegs on the new bike. The GN…

Been working on a long time project that i bought about 5 years ago but never materialised until i managed to buy a rare low slung exhaust, so i did all the dry run on this one buying parts and gradually building the bike up until it was all done and ready for a full resto. So now i have the bike registered and road legal and its awesome hope you guys like the pictures. TTB

My muffler and header pipe are separate parts connected together with a ring screw clamp that screws onto the muffler compressing a gasket that seals the muffler/header pipe connection. I'm missing the gasket so I have a smokey leak at the muffler/header pipe connection. I'm hoping that someone has an idea or method to seal this. I can't find this gasket listed anywhere for purchase. Thanks, Gregg

For the love of god, has anyone got any ideas how i can release my barrel from my truly rust engine please? I made a puller that attaches onto the rocker cover bolts then tapped an 8mm bolt so it coudl be wound down to press on the piston to "pop" the barrel off. I thought it sounded good in principle, all i managed to achieve was a 8mm hole in the piston I then tried to reinforce the piston with the only thing i had to hand - a 50p coin, retried an ended up with a 50p with a 8mm hole through the middle any thoughts??

Hi guys. New on the forum. I am currently restoring an old LS2, and most of the parts I have managet to get via Youtube and other places. However, the exhaust pipes with mufflers are hard to come by. Please give me a tip if you come across a pair. They do not have to be perfect in the chrome, but they must be without dents and scratches into the metal.

Hello there, just wondering if anyone could shed some light on a noise I can hear on my 1984 v80. When I release the throttle I can hear a slight metal rattle which sounds like it's coming from the front wheel area. I've checked around the exterior wheel and nothing seems loose. I can also hear it a bit after I release the break sometimes. Could it therefore be something like bearings? I had my shoes changed around 3 weeks ago. The breaks are good - just wondering if something may have loosened while we opened up the housing? Cheers Emma.

Hi all ! I have had a small but irritating problem in my xj900, every now and the engine does not start: -pressing start button only produces a click but the starter motor does not work -the battery should be OK, quite new and voltage about 13.5v when engine not running -hill-start ( is that right word in english ? ) works fine and after i have driven back home without stopping the engine, the problem is gone Does any of you more experienced xj owners have any hint of a typical reason for the problem ? My only idea ( not a technician unfortunately ) would be to start to carry the multimeter with me and try to measure the starter relay, cut-off relays an…

  15. So im a recently new owner of an 1979 xs750. This is my first bike and im totally new to everything including how to restore/fix any problems but then again everyome has to start somewhere right. I am very eager to learn how to work on it and i have been doing my research on line. With that being said my problem is that i went on a ride to other day sounded like it needed gas so i came back and put it in and gas started coming out the carbs and it looked like the airbox. When i checked my oil you could smell gas. From researching a few things online my question is do i have something wrong with my petcocks leaking or my carbs.

Hey everyone, Just picked up this bike and I'm eager to get it running. PO did an engine swap and now the numbers match, but he attempted to change the ignition from CDI-> points... or maybe vice-versa. I have a Clymer manual on the way, but I'm curious if anyone on here has an electrical diagram for this year or at least knows if the 78 was CDI or points? The bike came with a parts box containing both... Any help would be awesome! Thanks in advance

Maybe bitten off more than I can chew here! Picked up a matching engine and frame and though it would be a fairly simple rebuild as I was not looking for a full blown restoration. Trouble is AT3's were not sold in the UK and parts are a plenty in the US of A it's just that postage costs are astronomical! What is it with the US postal system? The tiniest thing comes in a great big packet and they charge the earth for it! Sorry for whinging. Need some AT3 spares Tank single seat, fork tubes etc etc. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I did have a contact in the states who helped by sending a box of stuff over which was very helpful and cost effective but he has moved…

  20. Hey all, been a while. Did a long distance move to the mountains of the American Southwest and the Enduros have been languishing in the garage. But Spring is upon us, most of my new home projects are either complete or well under way or shelved pending time & funds. So time to dust off the scoots and see how things are. I now have a 1971 AT1 and a 1974 GT80 in addition to the 1978 DT175. I've already tinkered a bit with the jetting on the 175 since I had the jets from when I was trying to sort the lean heat seize issues I was having. I've got a 140 in now, but the top end is lacking, only getting to around 5500 rpm. It also pops quite a bit, very 2-…
