For the Vintage Yamahas

  1. Started by Keith Burton,

Looking for any info on the bike which I just purchased in excellent condition. How much does it weigh? Is there an owner's manual I can buy or copy? Mine has just 2600 miles. What are most likely repairs/maintenance items?

I just bought a 1964 YG1-K and i'm having trouble finding information about it. Dose anyone know how much gear oil the bike takes and what kind? The bike dose not have a dip stick or a sight glass so i don't know if the gear oil is ok.

Anyoldiron has been left to his own devices again Picked up this luverly little original Twin Jet today, and a parts monster, with a boot load of parts. The red one will receive the usual love, dont know what to do with the green thing yet some $%^^%%#@ has cut the rear mudguard, so thats the end of original for that one..............................maybe a mini cafe racer in black, with silver accents, there, i said it out loud Cafe racer. Much wrenching will be done this weekend. ............................................and just in case there are any thoughts off ''the luck of some people'' i drove 1700 odd kms to do the deed The l…

IT LIVES. l would like to weave tales of suuuuuuper Genius, but i cleaned the tank, petcock and carb and it fired right up. lm amazed at how smooth it is, zero and i mean zero vibration. lve ridden it about 5 miles, its quite peppy with forth gear being quite 'tall'. The clutch is slipping, stuck plates most likely, ive just raided evilbay, and got a baffle, brake lever, manual and gearshift lever coming, didnt realize it was a heel and toe shift until i had to change down, well thats what hands are for. The wiring will need some TLC, but nothing that cannot be sorted. Not done properly yet, will come up cleaner when im done.

Hi everyone,i have a 1976 DT175 also a AG100 1973 i require assistance as i am renovating the DT and the rear wheel is stuffed will the rear wheel from the AG fit?the hub's are not the same as the AG has a 4 point drive which has the sprocket attached and that fits into the hub so it is quite a lot wider than the DT. or has anyone got a spare wheel for the DT any advise would be appreciated.

prior to doing the carbs I will check points/timing accuracy. I have only a Haynes manual and there is conflicting advice on how to turn the engine during work...which differs from that I have used on other machines in the past too ;0) (but then I am probably very wrong) The Haynes in one paragraph says use a spanner on the nut to turn the engine and adjust points, this is 10mm and to be honest looks a little weedy to trust not stripping a thread? Then in the timing section it says remove a hex headed bolt and then use a hex key behind that to turn the crank? I have removed the hex headed bolt now and see the hex in the crank end so assume I can turn it with tha…

Hi, I now have a 1977 XS500, very pleased with her and can't wait to get my mot on it! It has the later type carbs I believe. looking forward to being on the forum too. Going through the usual things and got onto carbs. Firstly my balancer adaptor tubes are I think M5 thread and too small for the threaded holes. Can anybody tell me what size the hole is? Then the air/pilot screw. The book says 1 turn out on right hand, 1 and 3/8 out on the left hand. Never come across difference before? Also when I look to lightly seat then back out they each have a square lump on them stopping them screwing right in or backing out...tamper proof? I only have about 2/3 of a turn…

I'm restoring 1982 DT125 LC1. Trying to keep as original as possible I need a genuine exhaust silencer for this model. I've seen one on the US EBay but it lists as a 1981 cut off. Would this fit ?

Evening all, Another DT175..........1980 I've just stripped down the whole bike and now it's time to get started with the restoration I'm looking recommendations for good companies to carry out the following work. Re-chrome and refurbish wheels, Forks are pitted, needing reconditioned. The best way to polish the bottoms of the alloy forks? Is it better painting or power coating the wheel centres? What's the best after market silencer? I was think of putting a bigger tyre on the back (4.00 18?) original chunky tread or a supermoto style And lastly best place for decals. Thanks for your help.

Got an XT with an sr500 engine, pretty stripped down as in no indicators and running a capacitor instead of battery. goes great. But wiring was a bit of a mess and I broke the regulator. Got a second hand regulator from eBay and rather then just wack it on decided to do a really nice job cleaning up all the wires etc. also the old regulator was not standard so none of the colours matched the diagrams. i redid the wiring following the diagram but now it won't spark. i did take off the ignition/key as always just left it on. I'm wondering if I've left out a connection or something - can't work it out, all looks ok. …
