I was preparing to change my front wheel bearings as there seemed to be some play and I found that it was the thread in the fork which is the problem. I was thinking about using a helicoil repair. The axle thread is in good order. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

Hi all. Going to do my first oil change this weekend. I picked up a bottle of Mobil 2000 10W/40 oil from Halfords, but it's not specifically for motorcycles. Will this be okay? I'm assuming it will be fine as I believe any 10W/40 should be okay? Sorry for the silly question.

Hi folks. I was told here that I should not use the passing lights (right name?) on my dragstar as it will kill the battery, I am wondering is there anything I can do to be able to use them without this happening? I frequently use a long country road at night and the extra light would help and it feels safer having them, a lot of crazy car drivers on that road. I'd really love to use these lights but don't wanna mess the battery up or get stranded. Thanks Heading to bed now so if I don't reply I'm not being a dick and will back to you in the morning Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Riding home last night, dip headlight bulb went so had to use full beam. Went to change the bulb this morning and can't. I've got one of them double oval custom headlights: There's two hex screws on the side which I've undone but the housing (which I'm assuming should pull out) won't pull out. There are no other screws apart form the two side screws which thinking about it now, might be optional mount screws. Anyone else done one of these before?

  6. Gents, Long time no speak - had a bit on at work - trust you all well, For the first 2 miles or so the bike feels like its running on 3 legs - spluttery and misfires out of the off side tailpipe. I got the feeling righthand cylinders or carbs. After a bit it pulls through and is sweet as and pulls and runs like a train. This might sound stupid but it seems to do it more often when it has been on the side stand for a day or 3 - does the fuel run to one side of the carbs or something? Does not seem to do it when parked on the centre stand. Never done it before and serviced in November just before winter and being laid up. The chap said it would run bette…

My baby drag cranks up but when I twist the throttle it stalls out. I had it running fine and then all of a sudden she died at 50 mph and hasn't been the same since. Carburetor?

  9. Started by Grouch,

My rear brake pads needed changing badly. I was in danger of wearing them down to the metal like i did on the XT and damaging the disk and caliper. Easy I thought, until I realised you cant get to them or take the caliper off until you take the rear wheel off completely. What a stupid design. So now I can't even change the rear brake pads without putting aside 3 hours. The bike needs servicing anyway so they can do it.

I have just spend 6 hours trying to solve a problem with my side lights and was hoping someone could help me with my next step. I had no side lights rear or front but headlight was fine. I figured out that I only have 0.5v going to them, I joined a new wire directly from the battery live to the rear side light wire under the seat and both came on. I am wondering if the switch is likely to be at fault or shall i run the new wire ive put in to the side light wire just as it comes out the switch instead of the battery? Thanks

Hello everyone. My old virago 125 which I'm giving to my brother is doing my head in. First off the coil was sparking and I got it changed, when I got it changed the spark plug started sparking through the rubber, I put another thick part of rubber round it and it seems to be working. Although when it rains it feels abit dodgy going from first gear to 2nd, like it's about to cut out but doesn't. Now when I turn on the bike sometimes it's like the battery's dead. I have to run and start her. I put a new regulator in not long very long ago and the battery is fine. Any ideas? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi, I noticed today during my commute, that my YBR is not signalling right and the green right bulb on the dashboard is steady on, instead of flashing. Everything is alright with the left one. What problem could it be?

Hi everyone, recently got a yamaha dragstar 650, first big bike after passing my test a few days ago. Just to let everyone know I am no bike expert when it comes to repairs lol. Anyway, been out in the bike a lot and notice everytime there is white smoke coming from up on the exhaust pipe, I've put up a picture of the location the smoke comes from. Is this normal? It happens when I'm on the bike cause I notice the smoke rising past the headlights and also for a while after I've got off the bike. Thanks for reading! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Alright folks I went out to get the boys bike ready for its MOT. He hasn't used it for about 15 months (various reasons) anyway a few wee jobs...stripped, cleaned and copaslipped the back brake. Fitted new rear shockers and then went to start it. It only fired in one cylinder (front) but was showing a spark in the rear. I poured a wee drop of petrol in the rear cylinder and away it went, but only until that fuel ran out. Tried again but would not even run on the front cylinder now. I removed the fuel pipe and switched the ign on. Fuel came out so the pump is working. My assumption is that the carbs are gummed up (strangely fuel is getting up to the rear…

  17. Hi, all, My Majesty 250 has been standing outside covered up for around 3 months, when I turned on the ignition it stayed on for 2 seconds and then went off, if you use the kill switch or turn the ignition off and on the light comes back on again for 2 seconds. nothing on starter button during the 2 seconds that the light is on. Battery is in tip top condition and all terminals seem to be in tact. Where do I start looking? any help would be gratefully received.

After weeks of tearing down and checking timing finding little thing improperly put back together etc. My XVS 125 is purring like a kitten. The new lump was put together by a novice and in no way was the professional he was said to be. That being said, it was all new parts and. "doable" I had the timing right but in fact the cams were reversed. I didn't catch that the wrong valve was opening only that they were shutting and the engine had compression. My shop had it going in a couple of hours and gave it an MOT service , chain adjustment etc. And I'm ready to ride! So for anyone who is following my post showing the timing marks lining up, they are in fact spot on but…

  20. Well peeps, I finally got my arse in gear and decided to give the FJ1200 a bit of much needed TLC. It had recently developed a fairly substantial oil leak, and when stopped in traffic it would smoke badly from around the fairings. At first I thought it was the rocker cover gasket leaking but on further investigation it turned out to be a rocker cover retaining bolt that the previous owner had sheared off in the head, and then siliconed it back into the head before selling it on to me, only for it to pop out under crankcase pressure and allow the oil from the top end to escape and leak all down the side and back of the engine. Whilst there is probably a 'prop…
