When I start my 1980 DT175MX (F) every now and then, it really takes a while to get it starting and idling normally. So I kickstart it after pulling out the chock, and kick it like no tomorrow and still feels reluctant to start. After a dozen kicks or so, it finally starts and idles for a few seconds then dies. This happens about twice, and by the time all this has happened the engine is pretty warm and can start with choke but then I'm able to push the choke back in and give it a few throttle blips to keep it running, after then it idles fine and quite smoothly. This has been happening since I got it. But it pays off since when its warm, its a wild torque beast So …

I am not familiar with bike mechanics but have a general knowledge of mechanical repair. I have a very small hole in the cover plate that is on the right side of the motor where you put the oil. I have a new cover plate to repair this but my question is this: Is there any reason that gas would come from that hole?

I think this all started when I tried to replace my front "dim light" with a LED strip, it worked perfectly till I put the face back on (and looked rather sexy too I might add) Anyways, It seems the back ride light (the one that stays on all the time, so other road users can see you from behind) is connected to the front in series, becuase when that doesn't work neither does the back, I checked the back bulbs, both fine. of course I tried putting the orginal front light back but it seems I may have damaged something deeper, both lights would flicker every now and then with moving of the wires and vibrations. Went back today with a multimeter with the intent of strippi…

On my 1981 XV750H the tacho has suddenly stopped working. Was fine last week, now flickers a bit but most times stays on zero revs, I am checking wiring conections and looking for broken wires, any other suggestions please? Replacement Tacho heads seem pricey and I would probablly have to import from USA to UK, making HM Customs richer and me even poorer.

Hi all I have a 1978 dt 175 and I'm in need of some help with it. The bike starts however that's about all it does right. The idle is very rough and and it smokes way more then it should. Also the bike bogs out and dies when any throttle at all is given. I am unsure of why this is? I have tried a lot of different things I have cleaned the carb several time and blown it out I just found out after having the bike for a year that I have a 79 carb and was missing a I ring to seal the main jet. I ordered some "correct ones" but I also I have found one that seems to fit but no change at all has occurred. A friend has recommend me playing with the timing but I'm not sure if ican…

I need to replace it on my bike. Got the part luckily 2nd hand off ebay. Brand new they are £240!!! I nearly had a heart attack when they told me. All that cash for a bit of cable, brake lever and a little box for fluid. Anyway I persevered and one came up on ebay for £32. All I need now is some fluid and I'm going to crack on with it. I've got my manual and I'm going to do it all myself. I'm just anxious about bleeding the bugger. It took me 3 days to bleed a rear brake on the XT.

Hi I've had a new sprocket and chain set on for about 5 months and have kept an eye on the tension from time to time. A couple of weeks ago on the way to work it suddenly slackened right off - about 3 inches of play. I stopped in a garage on the way and they tightened it up but said there was a serious tight spot but this should work itself out after a few miles. 2 weeks later and I've just had the chain jump off the rear sprocket twice this morning. Both times at low speed between 1st and 2nd. Could the mechanic have messed anything up when he tightened it or is there any obvious reason for this. I will have to get it to the Yamaha garage in town as I have no tool…

Hi guys. Having got the old girl rebuilt with new paintwork She is running terrible there is massive hesitation aon accelerator and a shitload of backfiring at certain revs. The exhaust is aftermarket so I re jetted and lifted the needles but that made her run very rich so I went back to standard jets and settings but the back firing persists. Could this possibly be a faulty coil ??? there is a new battery fitted and also new rectifier as well. The petrol pump is fine and the plugs are new. even though I have reverted back to standard jets and dropped the needle setting back to second groove down from top, it still seems as though the mixture is rich?? the setting for t…

Any ideas ? Also my mixture screw ( if that's what it is called ?) is completely worn down ? Anyway to change that or do I need a new throttle body ?

Hi everyone . I am a new rider and have brought a new fuel pump for my ybr 125. I fitted the new pump everything was working fine. Then I went to go out on it today and it wouldn't start . I took the fuel pump out and the little o ring that goes on the output side of the pump had split . Causing low fuel pressure . I have got a new o ring where am I suppose to fit this o ring to stop it splitting . Last time I a pushed it on the nossle then forced it into the plastic casing . You could see it still half in and out . But i couldn't get it inside the plastic housing with out it distorting or getting crushed . What's the correct procedure for this o ring ?

Been trying to undo the screws that hold the sidestand kill switch onto the frame, the screws will not turn at all, like they are superglued , was wondering if there are some kind of tabs that need to be lifted up , so i can get this switch of, as i have a no spark prob myself, Was fine the day b4, then just would not start, Have to wait till Mon, and talk to a mechanic who owns the bike shop, and def no,s what hes talking about, , Heard about bypassing the switch, which is what i might do, but i need to no if its the switch causing the spark prob, had the bike three and half yrs, and never had this b4, Only found out about this kill switch after messing with carb, takin…

I would just like to ask if someone can tell me if this is normal for a hot bike (summer London traffic) to vent steam from the vent under the bike? I had my cooling system checked on the last service about 2 months ago. The water smells like coolant, so it must be an issue on my cooling system surely. But the garage found nothing wrong with it... Any ideas would be much appreciated. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

Been busy sorting all the RD`s hassles out. First off the tank and plastics have gone off for paint (finally)..will post pics to end off the restoration thread. Then sorting the sidestand as its already hammered the chrome off the new pipes. Quite a mission as bolt broke off..couldn't drill it out so cut out the section of frame to get sidestand off..then still couldn't drill it so cut off piece of sidestand. Found new piece with existing hole..cut to size..welded onto stand and welded new nut onto the back. Sidestand repositioned now to miss exhausts. (Touched up damaged chrome with Hi Heat Silver paint) Then thought I had rev counter sorted but soon …

Hi guys..I have just got an 04 xvs 125 Dragstar and the exhaust is blowing quite a bit..due to corrosion as far as I can see and mainly around the section where the 2 pipes are joined by a small joining pipe...I can't seem to find a complete system for sale anywhere so what's the best way to go about it? Someone suggested some type of exhaust bandage and filler?...or is it best to weld? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. ..Thanks
