picked up a 1978 yz80e the other day and the top end was siezed. split the cases and everything to do with the crank is rusted and pitted to sh#%. but I do have an old gt80 (close in year) and I was wondering if I could use that. it all seems very close, similar connecting rod (if not the exact same) and same crank shaft. but the weights on the yz80 are a bit thicker, anybody know if I can use it? a used crank is like 200$ online

Hi people , I took the tank from my old elsie and stripped back the old paint and filler to reveal a sorry old mess . It's got more dents than a golfball and so many holes in it that it could be used as a colander . It also has a huge flap cut in the underside where I suspect the tank was cut open to remove old broken filler caps ( these were the getaway machine of the '80's and thieves would simply smash the locked cap down into the tank with a hammer when they needed a refill ) and then brazed back together . Oh , and it's full of rust ! Now , my question is , has anyone managed to rescue a tank like this for reasonable money as new LC tanks ain't cheap , neither…

Bike passed her MOT today and she is all set ready to go but now she won't start from the kick starter and is reluctant to bump start, when she does run she is poorly at mid range but ticks over fine....?. Removed the coil tonight and primary is spot on 1.0 ohm but secondary is 12k ohm rather than 5.9k ohms as per book ? I did have the plug cap in place whilst testing....is that wrong... Anyway messing tonight I do seem to lose the spark from time to time which might explain the poor running and the more lately non starting problems, I have un-tapped the wires below the coil as when I was trying to bump her she did fire slightly when messing about in this area; however …

Alright chaps. So riding home from work my xt 125 2010 suddenly starts a loud knocking coming from the bottom end of the engine. It happens when the bike is moving past 15 mph, not when idling. Ideas ? I'm not a mechanic but I'm eager to split the engine and have a look and I've learnt slowly but surely. Would it be cheaper to buy a new bottom end or the parts depending on what it is?

Hay all been awhile hope every 1s new years r going well. I've got a new toy today a yz 400 4 stroke Its not for starting. There's excellent compression the decomp works fine there's fuel getting to the plug. The fella I got it off has been using it in Spain but now moved back to the UK near the sunny sea of Cleethorpes ha not its freezing which makes me think the air fuel MUX could need altering. Does any 1 know what the setting should be ??. P.s also does any 1 know the correct way to kick her over thanks as always in advance

Good afternoon peeps I have a quick question to ask,here we go I have just brought this Yam IT and I have got it all up together and got an MOT on it ,I had to put a speedo on it to get the MOT ,I found out that this bike is an American import so I would guess the speedo drive in the front wheel would be calabrated for MPH not KPH ,the aftermarket speedo I brought on the inter-web say's on the face of it MPH ,the the pointer needle on it when i'm riding it seems to be quite acurate compared to the road speed limits and the speed of the other vehicles ,BUT the miles counter seems to be clocking up miles way to quickly , whats that all about ? whats going on ?Do you thin…

I have tried everything to no avail. Spoke to my mechanic on the phone told him everything I have done so far and he even researched the timing and called me back and said I have everything right except in his opinion a weak battery with possible fouling of the new plugs. I now have petrol in the oil so I know its has flooded through all of the constant trying to start. I am knackered from trying to bump start it today. My guy says by putting it on the rollers it will definitely start with some tweaks that I just cant do pushing it or trying to jump start it in the cold.

Hi folks, This afternoon I noticed some throttle hesitation. It happens in the mid-range revs, not down low at idle, and it happens when I give it the beans. Worse when engine cold, better but still noticeable when engine has warmed up. Bear in mind it was 8 deg C on the roads this afternoon. Engine is not running rough otherwise. Possible causes? Carbs need cleaning? Leak in the air intake? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Aye Aye..tuning these two strokes.... Age old question again guys. Took a modern 175 for spin other day and was quite impressed as there is no missing at all thru the revs. With the last 175 restore I have eliminated crank seal issues as new is fitted. Still getting considerable bogging down before the powerband kicks in. Airscrew now turned out full 2 turns (about to try 2 1/2 turns). I would think all that`s left is to either adjust throttle needle leaner one notch (its in the middle)..or could it be these pilot jets are worn so replace? I always seem to be needing to go leaner with the 2strokes. Friend rode the RD other day and suggested I take it to Yamaha for tuning.

When the ignition is turned on no lights come on anymore and you can't here the power valve, Also recently it starts fine but smokes a lot ! When revved and the glass to check the engine oil the oil is a red but is frofy Also from the overflow pipe there is red oil poring out, not sure if it's 2 Stoke oil or engine oil ? But after a couple of seconds black oil comes out and mixes so I'm not sure what oil it is Can anyone please help me ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Evening guys. So my problem is that when I use the electric start on my bike I get one or two sparks no matter how long I told the button then a slight spark when I depress the button. Sometimes this is enough to start my bike, however it WONT when the side stand is down. I usually use the kick start anyway. Its not the CDI as I have a new spare one. So are we thinking stator, ignition coil? Possibly the electric start button? My bike is a yamaha xt 125 2010 Thanks guys

I have just a put a brand new engine in my XVS 125 and even though I took the bottom off of the carb and unscrewed the main jet and housing and idle jet and housing blew carburetor cleaner through and made sure the little holes were clean I'm not getting any fuel through the carb whatsoever. The accelerator pump is putting a squirt in when you turn the throttle and the bowl is filling up but nothing. you have to twist the throttle 10 or 12 times jus to get it to pop a few times. I have another carburetor which is freshly rebuilt should I put it on or try something else with the old one?

Hi everyone, I want to get my '97 dragstar wheels powdercoated and need to remove the rubber dampeners and studs in the rear wheel. No idea how to do it and youtube seems to point in the direction of destroying them then buying new ones. This doesn't seem right so anyone any ideas?

Hello all I'm hoping someone can help me I am trying to identify what size the piston I have pulled out of the DT I am restoring is so I can purchase a new one. Morning I am trying to get my head around on how to install the alarm on the bike (hawk x50 onto ybr125) Ive removed the side panels and the seat. Connecting to the battery and the frame isn't a problem My concern is how to connect to the rear indicators. Directly above the rear wheel there are wires, which look like that of the indicators I am not too sure about that and I fear if I get it wrong bad things will happened. Also I am not too keen on cutting wires and it seems like I can squeeze a wire in the opening Can someone please help or point me in the right direction? Well hello all New to the world of motorbikes and bought a ybr which I'm trying to get to grips with and wondered if anyone could help. So first point is I'm in need on an exhaust the one on is rusting slowly away found a very small hole in the underside today so just on the lookout for a new exhaust. Second after I leave bike running on neutral its dies after a few mins revs creep low and cuts out... I changed the spark plug the other day to a ch7hix as I had a non starting issue with the stock plug. Hallo everybody, I am new to forum and have just bought a Diversion XJ600S and the centre stand only just touches the floor and will not keep the bike upright. I suspect someone has put a bigger monoshock on for some reason. I have looked on Ebay and the shocks seem very dear, does any one know of anywhere I can get a second hand one cheap or will a 600 Fazer one fit or any other similar 600 bike? I don't do a lot of miles and don't want to spent a vast amount of money. Can anyone help? Tommosan.
