Hello, Just got my first Yam Exup FZR400r. Only there is no Exup fitted. The guy I got it off handed me the Exup servo when I collected it. The bike runs ok (ish), but is quite lumpy when revs get low and struggles to pick up revs once they've dropped. Now I'm not to sure where the Exup system is locted and if its an easy thing to pop back in. I guess Yamaha put it in for a reason. Could any one give me some advise. Possibly show me a picture of where one is fitted and generally advise it its hard to put right once it been taken out? Cheers Greg

Hi all, I tried wiring up my spot lights using a wiring harness last night. I connected the relevant wires to: A) Relay Harness Negative wire to Negative battery terminal. Fused positive wire from relay harness to the Positive battery terminal. C) Relevant wires from relay harness to the spot lights. D) Positive Switch Wire to a positive connection that is only on when the ignition is on. The problem is, when I flip the switch the fuse (15A) just blows. When I wire the spot lights directly to the battery then they work (although this would of course mean that they could never be turned off thus killing the battery). Does anyone have any t…

Hi All, first post on here, but any info would be greatly appreciated. I have a 99/2000 R6 track/race bike, looking at the frame number it seems to be only 15 digits, all the forums and web searches I've been through suggest that all frame numbers are 17 digits long, even yamaha themselves cannot identify the bike, although its 15 characters there is an asterisk at the start & end of the number. Does anyone have any suggestions on this (other than stolen & restamped frame pls). Cheers Don

Hi Has anybody out there had any luck repairing the carb mounting rubbers on their machines, I tried the old tip (which I think I found on this site) of spraying the rubbers with WD40 and noticed a dramatic change to the engine running for a few seconds, new ones are about £100 a set and its a big slice out of my budget and I think second hand will be all about the same condition for a 1989 XJ600. Think I have seen somewhere a repair with silicone and a cycle tube but not sure this is an effective repair and probably will not last very long, any hints or tips please would be appreciated …

got the fuel tank off my freinds YA6, ready for cleaning. We are trying to figure out how the petcock comes off. I don't want to take a bolt off and have a bunch of springs fly out on me. anyone have info on removing that? Once we get that off we're ready for cleaning. 1. spray with hose to get any loose stuff out 2. fill halfway-ish with some water & ball bearings/washers/whatever will "scrape" the walls and shake shake shake 3. throw in some laquer thinner and shake some more 4. thoroughly dry 5. install i'm leaning towards NOT using a sealant (assuming it will eventually breakdown and clog the fuel system) sound about right?

I had bought a 1970 DT1E 250 a few years back and it has sat in my garage since I finally have the time to work on it. The Motor has not run since the late 80's, my thoughts were to remove the old motor and put on something newer, that would have more parts readily available. Any ideas or suggestions as to what motor might fit on this frame? Having to weld motor mounds is not out of the question… I am new to this stuff and seek assistance, please and thank you -Adam

Hi guys and girls, I've been reading these forums for months now and finally decided to register. I'm in a bit of a pickle; I've heard and read so much about derestricting a 2003 DT125, yet I'm having some trouble with understanding the reed switch. I've pulled out the reed switch and have not noticed any difference as it still sits at around 7500rpm regardless of whether it's in or out. I've been told to earth this however have been told not to equally as much. There are currently no other mods/derestrictions to this, apart from taking out the air snorkel... I'm only using it to commute to work (5 minutes down the road) and occasionally to town. I intend on b…

Hi , I am new to this forum as I have just re entered the Yamaha ownership after an absense of 30 years. I wonder if any body has got any ideas to help me? I have just bought a RD400 D which needed "light Restoration" before doing too much to it I want to get it going but am having problems. I have cleaned the points and got the plugs sparking so I think the electrics are OK I have stripped down the carbs and cleaned them and they didn't seem too bad . I have just re mounted the carbs without air box etc and got a make shift set up to get petrol to the float bowls but can't get a flicker of life out of the thing. The engines has done 40,000 miles but seems to …

The mirrors on my bike were totally useless and didn't work one bit, they were more of a hinderence than an aid so I took them off. Will I need to put them back on for an M.O.T? Also is it illegal not to have them?

I completely stripped my dt down and power coated the frame. Iv put everything back together on the bike, every wire is in the right place, they only connect into the right connector anyways... It has a very good spark full tank of fresh juice but will not start. I don't think it's a wiring issue because it has a good spark? The only thing iv changed is the throttle cable as I notice the old one was chewed up when removed it. I completly cleaned carb out and none of the settings have been touched and it was running fine b4. Could I have not attached the cable to the slider in the carb properly or Is there only one way it goes? Iv check silly obvious things like ht cap cha…

Hello all, Guy down the street is selling a 1988 DT50. It's in good order. Everything works (lights, etc.). Starts on 1-2 kicks when cold but immediately goes to WOT within no time. He says he has had the carb off a couple times to try and "fix" it. If you mess with the "twist grip" portion of the throttle, it never seems to return to it's correct location. I didn't mess with it too much, but noticed the coolant lines go into the carb and then from carb into block, so didn't want to tear into it if I ddin't need to. If you can shift fast enough, it actually runs. Thought I would pick it up for a couple younger first time riders in the household. Thoughts or id…
