Hi people. Got a pod filter on my carb, no box or anything anymore, drilled exhausts, will be getting straight through pipes. Needle/main jet are sorted, however I cant keep turning out the idle mixture screw, plus its not really working. I think I need a bigger pilot, I can remember someone saying a 17.5 mod is better, but 18-19 may suit me, if I can get them. I was just wondering how or what the sizes are, and where to find them, I have been looking, but not sure what I'm looking for. I know the main jets have "5mm thread, 105# main jet" info about them, but not sure about the pilots taper/holes thread sizes if it has any. If anyone could point me…

hi all im restoring an 1985 xt 550. its going reasonably well except for a round hole about the width of your middle finger located just to the right of the front sprocket hidden behind the oil pipe it was plastered over with chemical metal. when you put your finger in for a bit of a probe around you can feel.... the gears !!!!!!! this can't be good. at all. the manual has no mention of the offending hole but its perfectly round you would think it was meant to be there it looks like its being machined in. i can't believe that someone would go through the trouble to go crazy with a grinder and cut a a gaping hole for the fun. any ideas anyone?

hi i'm new to the forum and wanted to ask for advice on my Aerox, The bike was running fine until one day it cut out and would not start again, so i removed the carb and cleaned it thoroughly as well as the spark plug and could find no dirt in the carb or anything wrong with the spark plug so i replaced it all and tried to kick it and it started first time so i put all the fairing back on and went to ride away.....it cut out again. i could not find the problem so i guessed it could be a fuel delivery problem so i checked it all and there was nothing wrong with it, and messed for a while with no luck and so i put it all together and tried again, to my surprise it starte…

Hey everyone, I've been doing some tune up to my SR250 and its been acting kind of funny, the bikes coming back down to idle very slowly and to my knowledge this would be a lean mixture? I cannot find any kind of air flow screw on the carb to try and fix this but I haven't found one/there isn't one and I honestly have no ideaz what the problem could be the carb is in good shape and has recently been cleaned as well as the jets, and direction on what to do would be awesome thanks!

Hey guys, my pal Keith got his Tcat stolen a couple months ago but they caught the guys!!, so he got it back from insurance etc. However they had hotwired it, so Keith has got a new ignition barrel for it and joined it up etc. he can hear all the normal start up happening but it doesn't crank or kick into life when he tries to start it... it's dead. Could you guys maybe list a few things he can check through to make sure he has done everything correctly. His rear indicators have been ripped off (possibly by the blooming salvage company!)... will this have any effect? Thanks for any help you guys can offer, I appreciate it's a bit vague but I will…

I am ready to change the oil on my new 2011 V-star 950 for the first time. The bike has 500 miles on it and would like to use Mobil 1 20W50 synthetic oil as a replacement. I enjoy the bike very much but experience a "clunk" when I engage the transmission into 1st gear when I run the bike after a 2-3 minute warn-up. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi all, I posted this in the new members forum. but figured it should be here, sorry for the duplicate post. Ive decided that its time to resurrect my DT. Ive ridden bikes since I was tall enough to get on one anyhow a couple of years ago I decided id like to do some off roading and purchased a DT off ebay. its a 1980 model but has a 175 top end on it. with memories of my old 125 DT field bike romantically filling my head I had the generator rewound, replaced the wheel bearings and it passed its mot - great.... then I got about 11 miles from the mot centre and it blew a hole in the top of the piston. Unfortunately the restraints of family life meant its sat in my shed…

Slipping clutch fixed but has revealed a poor mixture set-up, there's a lot of smoke and I am hoping it's a simple oil pump adjustment. My bike is a 1977 DT250MX but the manual I have seems to show a different pump. Does anyone have an idea how to do this?

Hi all, I have a fzr 400 1wg great bike had a friend take it for a run as I have no licence yet but will have soon he said its great no problems on the test run, its done 19,000 miles and is a 1987 year. Im having problems with starting it,once started it runs fine but three short clicks of the start button and the battery dies, I think the batterys had it but looking through some paper work with the bike its only a year old, my friend said if it had been flat for a long time it will be knackered, does this sound like a new battery job and she will fire up straight away ? or something more serious ? :S After you get her started she will run fine, I changed all the s…

I need a little help to clear up some confusion, i recently purchased 2 DT50MX's for my son to rebuild prior to a cbt test and one piston cracked whilst kicking it over and the other is badly scored around the ring. I have been trying to size up the pistons / barrels to order a new piston set but sizes are a bit odd or i am missing something. One bike has had a big bore kit fitted that the barrel weighs about half as much as the other and top of the piston has 0.50 stamped on it, as close as i can tell the piston is 44.4mm wide and bore of barrel 44.5mm, only have a set of vernier calipers to measure with and this so as close as i can get in accuracy. Other bike …

Hi all bikers. Just purchased a 1998 YP250 for local run about. Its done 22k and runs well, bit scruffy but thats fine for 14 years old, still does 85 mpg. My querry is about the way it handles, When on the road it rolls and weaves, not keeping a straight line. The steering and wheel bearings all feel fine with no notchy feel but the tyres are of different makes. Front is a Continental dated 2004 and the rear is a Sava sporty. its my first scooter so not sure if thats how they should handle if not are the tyres my problem to get renewed? Thinking of Avon Viper Stryke tyres as a per......any suggestions would be helpful.

Not too much info to start on this one, just want your gut feelings. Without knowing specifics, what would you think of an air-cooled two-stroke running fine, revving normally, after about 15 minutes of riding at 50 mph, starts fading, losing power, not accelerating with more throttle, then quickly bogging and for all the world sounding like it is seizing up? Luckily I had turned around and headed home; when it quit, I was only a half mile away, downhill. As it slowed from around 35 where it quit, clutch in, it felt hard to downshift to get it into neutral, not at all like when it's running. (This could just be incidental, like that extra info they give my kids in math pr…

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I need some help with my TZR 50, it has a polini 80cc bore kit, technigas expansion chamber, bored out reed block with polini carbon reeds, high spec inlet manifold, 21mm TNT carb with a polini sponge air filter. I've only just put the carb on, previously was the standard 16mm, it went fine but I always knew it could do more as the powerband was tiny and right at the top of the rev range, now with the bigger carb the powerband is much bigger (and a bit more powerfull) but a lot lower down the rev range and it starts to run out of puff at about 9250rpm whereas before it could pull to 10250, if anyone could sugest anything I would app…

I'm in the process of breathing some life into a very abused tzr50 that in all honesty was fit for the scrap yard! Its been a long process, but eventually feel i'm getting there.. From no electrics whatsoever because it had been left outside in rain, electrics and lights now work. Couldn't get the thing started, no compression, fitted a new barrel + piston now starts! really starting to look like a nice bike, its been in bits, lots of new paint, it's going to look a cracker when done. Been tinkering over the last few days and got it to start and idle fine. Now it does not seem to rev much past 4000rpm and does not rev clean, tried altering screws on carbs eve…
