Hi I recently changed the oil on my 2001 newly purchased TMAX500. I looked in the manual and filled it with almost 3 litres of oil as recommended in the manual. however, although I am happy there is the correct amount of oil in now, I cannot use the oil check window as it is marked so badly you cannot see anything through it at all. Without renewing the window, any tips as to how I can keep an eye on level? eg dip stick ? Thanks

When I got my bike after a few weeks the rear brake started squeking. After trying brake cleaner it still would squek. It sounds horrible and it embarrasses me, I'm a complete beginner D.I.Y. bike mechanic, but have replaced the pads three times now and it still continues. I can't think of anything else now apart from replacing the disc. The original pads were worn down to the metal so I think they have damaged the disc, also I suspect my bike has its original discs still on six years after been made.

Hi guys! I'm restoring my uncle's RS100T I dunno what year it is but on the engine I see a sort of a serial number, 3VM024196. And it doesn't have a CDI as well. the problem is I bought a new wiring harness and tore all the old wiring harness apart. Now I am new to wiring motorcycles but I managed to rewire my own, the problem is this RS100's wiring system is different than mine so now I am having a terrible headache figuring out how to rewire this thing. I downloaded a manual for an RS100 but unfortunately it is for the one with the CDI which is kinda confusing for me. So far the only thing that I was able to fix is the headlight turning ON/OFF and making it HIGH/LOW and…

Hi All, Just a quick question, I need a YICS tool for the XJ and havng seen the price for a proper one on fleabay (F*****G HELL) and such I have decided to make my own but was wondering if anyone had made one or had one spare that I could borrow for a short time, if not then I have downloaded the drawings from the net and was just going to ask if I made 1 would anyone else like one as well at cost price, it's only a few bits of copper pipe some nuts washers and rubber pipe after all and provided the dimensions are correct I can see no reason why it can't be made. If you have any comments or suggestions (this is where you put your rude comments and totally irrelavent sugge…

the exhaust on my rxs100 isn't the original. I took it off this weekend to look at decarbing it with caustic soda. the baffle was in really tight, but managed to get it out for the first time. The baffle is totally different in style to the one pictured in haynes and has not packing on it. I've read that some baffles don't have packing and I've also read that not having the packing doesn't effect performance or noise level so is not worth replacing. my question is how do I know if this style of baffle needs packing? anyone got one similar. took a pic here:

Hi and thanks for taking a look at this nonsense. I'm looking for a solution to support my exhaust on the YBR 125..... when I remove the hangers. Figured I don't need 'em, I don't take pillion.... lol. So, as I'm going to re-grease the swingarm pivot, I'll not replace them and see what it looks like. It would need to be supported from the swingarm up and across, the exhaust fixing bolt would need to go thru the support first, then attach to the exhaust as it has a threaded nut. I'd be grateful for any ideas, please.

Hi all Another total n00b question... I'm looking to change the pegs on my XVS125, should I be looking somewhere special for bits for my bike or just something that fits? Are there specific brands (like with gear & lids) that I should look for / avoid? Many thanks M

So... After having stripped EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING from the bike, cleaned it all, checked all engine specs, altered valve clearance height, installed new gaskets, cleaned cylinder head, piston, installed new rings, refitted electrics, cleaned air filter, went over the whole bloody bike cleaning every terminal and square mm of the damn thing, remounted engine, filled with silkolene, fitted new jet on the carb, and started it up... I was pleasantly surprised that it started well, without choke or throttle, but didnt idle for long. As I expected as the fluids need to circulate etc. So eventually it ticked over nicely, and I adjusted the fuel mixture and it sti…

Hi, I have a YBR125 Custom, 2010 Vintage. It has never missed a beat until this afternoon when it conked out within a minute of me starting it up; having been left in the strong sun all morning. Called out RAC who concluded that the fuel pump was not working. Having looked on the web and this site in particular it appears to be a common problem. Lots of people were moaning about it last year and the year before. Did anyone hear if a solution was found? Did Yamaha admit that it was a design fault and agree to replace the fuel pumps FOC? Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks, David.

Hi I am new to this forumn My son have bought a Aerox YQ50 Scooter and we are having problems with the cooling system ( I am not experienced with liquid cooled bikes) We have a leak from the water pump into the casing behind I have a W/P repair kit on its way. Hopfully the repair will fix the leak. I have also noticed that there is a "Thermo Switch" coming out of the head which is disconnected. When it is reconnected the red warning light (no gauge) comes on even when cold. A What does the switch do? does it just indicate when the engine is hot or does it switch on the water pump? B Does the water pump work all the time or at a set temp? C Is it likley the sw…

Hi. I was adjusting the chain slack on my wife's YBR125 the other day and I noticed play in the swinging arm. On closer inspection, the bolt was loose. I took it out, greased it up and nipped it right up again so now there is no slack. The only thing is, I assume it should be torqued up correctly and the owners manual has no data on that. Does anyone have the correct torque setting and any other useful advice about servicing the the swinging arm. Many thanks in advance.

after 30 hours in my workshop ive got to this stage -recieved bike -replaced all missing bolts/parts taken off and not put back on -bought new battery and installed -discovered knacked solenoid -repaired the starter motor -discovered weak spark heres the bag, when i short the solenoid the engine tries to turn over and a few times has nearly fired, i need to check and clean the connections to the ht coil , buy a new gasket set and solanoid. But theres an occasional drip from the carb so it maybe a case of the fuel mix not correct and weak spark? am i running along the right lines? jay
