    Firstly all I want is the empty shell. I hate the style of the stock ones on an xvs125. Plus, will replacing them with an empty shell make it sound better too?? Moreover, how hard is it? Is it a case of perhaps getting the right materials? the right size pipe? the right fixings? will an empty-shell get hot? How hard is it to find chrome piping??? And then would it be possible to slash-cut it? hmm Brain storming please? Chris

  2. Hello peeps I'm off to Scotland for a weeks touring at the end of the month and I want to buy some handlebar muffs for my Dragtar 650 classic. Does anyone have any experience of a brand/make that will fit? I know it's not very 'cool' but I'll be damned if I'm driving around the highlands with wet hands for 9 days! Any advice appreciated.     Am sad to say my baby Drag went last Saturday. I did love that bike, but afraid I couldn't take cleaning the bike through another winter. What made me sell was my 33bhp restriction on my license went at the end of May, so I went out and got a 2001 Fazer 600cc. Have to say the difference on the commute is staggering, no more struggling to keep up with traffic or struggling against cars when pulling off when filtering either. Fortunately still have my XVS1300A for cruising, just a shame 3 bikes is [according to her in doors] excessive...

    hi ,i've got a 125 yamaha dragstar which is 10 yrs old and i bought it 2nd hand,got 2 problems with it. the 1st is that it has quite a bit of pitting especially in the front wheel and i cant seem to shift it,tried a few things but nothing works, and the 2nd is i'm trying to find some touch up paint and the only one i can find is bright,cherry red when mine is quite a deep red,can anyone help please?

    good evening all,can anyone help me please?I was wondering if any of you guys know how to remove baffles and padding from standard exhaust.Have read on other threads that drilling out the rivits is the way to go.Would like to hear from someone who has already done it 1st. And please no snide remarks on "buy a bigger bike" ive chosen this little piggy for economic purposes and would like it to sound a bit better not exactly crimes against humanity now is it.Cheers people .

  7. I have unsuccessfully done some googling trying to find out if the xvs 125 share the same engine as the xvs 250 but with smaller barrels and pistons. In other words, if it would be possible to upgrade from 125 to 250 by a bolt on replacement of the lower part of the cylinders. Not that I'm planning to do that I'm just very curious. Can anyone shed some light on this? Many thanks if you can

    Hello I have a 03 plate Dragstar xvs 125. I believe it to be midnight black although i havnt confirmed it. Can you buy touch up sticks for small scratches/ stone chips like you can for cars?

    Hi all, i have a slight rattle at certain speeds coming from the front of the bike. At first i put it down to my L plate rattling on the bracket but now i doubt it is. It seems to stop when you pull the clutch in. But i still have a hunch it comes from some kind of vibration as its not there all the time only at certain speeds. Any idea of anything i could check before resorting to a garage. Cheers

    i have an 1993 xj600 divi,when i put it into gear it jums forward and stalls,i thought it would be the side stand switch faulty but i have disconnected the switch and it does exactly the same thing.has anybody had the same problem and knows how to sort it.thanks in advance.....paul

  12. Hi guys. Newbie here to the site. Great site lads. Downloaded the service manual. Sorted lots of questions. But I still have a problem. I just adjusted the chain as it was slack. Now there is a bit of play, 3cm from top to bottom. Bike starts great, but when I engage 1st or 2nd, the bike moves for few inches then teh back wheel locks up. It moves even less in 2nd gear. The rear brakes where serviced a few months ago and are still ok! The oil is near min, but not out. Any ideas what could be the problem. It's my mates bike and he's selling it so I said I'd service it. I know in the past he's had the chain, sprockets, clutch and regulator, and a set of s…

    Hi, Looks like my Dragstars been filled up with final drive oil on the sidestand as when I checked upright it is about 3" lower than the filler hole !! Looks very new this oil--clear but does smell strong !! Question is I want to change it but the manual says SAE80 API GL-4 hypoid gear oil but can't get it anywhere !! Halfords say to use EP 80 but a web search says the EP 80 is acidic and not a direct replacement--attack yellow metal-brass copper etc. Don't know what to use now ? anybody used EP 80 Advice please. Graham.

I currently own an XV Virago 125 and am taking my full licence at the end of June. After this I'm hoping to move onto a 650 Dragstar, and was planning to restrict this down to 33 BHP from the 39BHP that are in it's specifications. However, many people I've spoken to claim that the BHP as claimed in the specs of the bike, is measured at the crank, not at the wheels, and that the chance of a 650 that's been out of the factory pulling off 39BHP at the wheels is highly unlikely, and that it's far more likely to be under 33BHP.   16. Have recently bought a XVS650 dragstar with Vance and Hines exhaust, Hypercharger, rejetted carbs. Seems to go well enough away from the lights. Doing about 44 to the gallon at the mo. Only problem is there's load of vibration on acceleration accompanied by the large amount of exhaust noise !! Lovelly !! Is this normal on a V twin ? Would the carbs need balencing ? Feels like it's shaking it's self to bits. Have heard on Fixya website it could be loose pistons ?? rings worn ?? Just want to make sure I'm not harming her so early on !!

    Ok all, Thought I'd change the oil filter today but didn't get very far !! Removed the "Yamaha" cover with 3 Allen bolts on the right hand side and thought the filter element was under there. Well it may be? but I couldn't see it ?? Just more screws and a nut ! Do I need to remove the larger cover --hand size-- or the whole right hand size casing ? I've got V&H Short Shots and was hoping not to remove them but at a bit of a loss now. Someone must have changed their own filter or do you all let the garage do it ?? Thanks.

    Hi all been reading this site for a while and now find i need help.Ihave an 07 1300 Midnight star that has developed a rattle from the clutch on idle and out of gear Ive read somewhere that Yamaha will fix this under warrenty Ive looked but cant find it again. My local Yamaha dealer has spoken to Yamaha who deny knowledge of the problem .question has any one had this problem and have they had it sorted Thanks in advance Dave

    Hi all, Trying to do a compression test on my 1997 Dragstar but stuck trying to get the sparkplugs out !! Bike didn't come with a tool kit so tried to remove with my car spark plug socket, of course it's too big. Looking on fleabay there are several sizes, 12mm, 14mm and 16mm with 3/4 and 1/2 inch drive. Don't want to order the wrong one ! any advice please ! Thanks, Gra.
