Ok so it all sounds so simple, just look in the little window, except Yamaha have decided to put a bloody exhaust pipe in front of it, other than removing said exhaust pipe how do you check the level, I have tried moving about under it but I still cant see. Any Ideas please?

My starter motor sometimes stays engaged, I was told it could be the idle gear sticking,So i took the starter motor out and had a look at the gear through the hole where the motor fits. I moved the gear with my finger and found there was sideways movement about 0.25mm from one side to the other. Is this ok or does the idle gear or bearings need replacing .

Hi I'm new, and you can read my intro post So, in true noob fashion, I need some help! I am experiencing a high pitched squealing noise. It happens when the the throttle is open and directly correlates to RPM; the higher the RPM the higher pitched the noise. The noise is pretty loud (irritatingly so, in fact), and can still be heard at 50mph with the visor down on an open face helmet. The noise disappears when pulling the clutch in and when in neutral. Given the above I'm thinking that the problem was probably clutch related? Anyone got any ideas on what's going on? Is the bike safe to ride the 10 miles to the shop! Please help! Thanks …

Hi All, I am picking up my XVS125 today, sale and price has been agreed over the phone but subject to the bike being as described, 8000 miles, 52 plate in excellent condition, last serviced 1800 miles ago. Is there anything I should look out for when inspecting it? how often do they need servicing, is it due yet and if so what needs doing. Thanks in advance, Gary

Although I am loving my baby dragstar the exhaust sounds weedy, any suggestions on making it sound a bit better without ruining the lovely smooth running engine and also not costing the earth as I am planning on doing my test soon I may want to upgrade to a 650. I have heard of someone drilling 8mm holes into ( I assume) the rear of the exhausts, does this do any good and will it upset the running or performance. Any advice welcome, Cheers, Gary

Guys, I posted here several times regarding the start problem I had with my xv125. After trying all I thought I should replace carb so bought a reconditioned carb and installed. After several cranks she started but now when I crank it runs few cycles then dies. Vacuum system doesnt work. There is no fuel tap leak nor pump leak...So all the start attempts went at PRI position. When running also I set petcock to ON position to realize engine died. So it was left at PRI..When I crank at on position, my transparent carb feed line shows that the petrol with air bubbles, non of the bubbles even shake...means there is no vacuum at all .....Does this vacuum affects sucki…

1st of all I would like to Thank the forum for all the great info and experience shared. 5 months ago I bought myself a beautiful litle beast. But from the first day I felt that it lacked of power and subsequently top speed. Driving it home it strugled to reach 50 and I blamed the wind. With the with the wind on the back it would reach 60 but it would scream like a 12yo on a JB concert. Following some Mods that I read here on the forum I decided to increase the front sprocket to find that it had a 13 teeth sprocket installed ( explains the high revs) so I decided to install a 14 teeth one but no power to pull the bike. Screaming at 50 in 4th gear and dying in 5th. To tr…

I did a total engine overhaul and fitted new rods and piston rings in the engine. Bought a reconditioned manifold that comes between two engine heads but the manifold was shorter than the gap between heads. So the garaj guy gave me some thick mat-like/plastic-like material with which I cut matching shapes for both manifold-head ends like below. After fitting the bike started very well. But later it wouldnt start..the engine cranks without gas...vacuum pipes are well sealed. The fuel pump does not pump fuel, I checked inside of it and its ok, but I doubt the vacuum-operated end of the petcock...the fuel is not pumped because there probably is a vacuum l…

Bit of background: Exhaust popping on decel, changed gaskets and it still remains. One screw is fine and turns, but the screw for the carb which requires adjusting had a ruined head. There was a tiny bit of a head left so i purchased a JCB branded screwdriver and used that. When applying force the handle on the screwdriver came loose. That is how tight the pilot jet is... So i used a pinvice with a 1mm drill bit to create a pilot hole. I then made it bigger with roughly a 2mm drill bit. I put an allen key in the hole and it grips but it still wont come lose. I tried gorilla gluing the allen key too which helped but again the seal snapped and its still stuck. My rem…

Hiya Guys, What changes would you have to make to your existing xv125 to have wider rear wheel, and may be matchingly wider front wheels too...? I know the swing arm should be wider to accommodate the big wheel... To widen the front sprocket arm and you gonna need some trick.. Has anyone done this mod? pls advice..Thanks..

Looking for a bit of advice guys. My 125 started acting funny this morning. Revving up very slowly and not accelerating and maxing out at 10mph. It would take a bit of starting and would die completely when I opened up the choke. Was thinking either water in the air filter (washed it yesterday) or dirty carb (had to go to reserve earlier this week). Does that sound about right? (Beginner). If it's the carb. Is it a tricky job to do or is it worth paying to get it done? Was ok up until this all started.

It's my baby's "birthday" today! She's had her service and she's just turned 40,000 miles old. I think I'll get her a new clutch for a prezzie!

After missing my old XVS1300 (and the other half refusing to let me buy another one - women!) I replaced it with an XVS950. Not ridden it much due to the weather, but I was impressed with the responsiveness of the engine and how easy it is to turn into the bends compared to the 1300. Only issue I have so far is I turn in too much and managed to drag the boards the same amount in one day on the 950 as I did on the 1300 in 3 years... The other half now tells me she prefers the pillion position on the 1300 to the 950, but I'll probably solo the 950 and just use the V Strom for ferrying her around. I'll post some pics this when I can get to a computer (rather than fight m…

Hi. Has anyone fitted alloy wheels to one of these 650's? I'm looking at the custom version with the bigger diameter front. I remember seeing a list of wheel sizes/dimensions from a wide range of bikes on the net somewhere, but, I can't for the life of me, find it again. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Where do you get your spares from? Looking for a pilot screw set for my 1990 535, got quoted £30 from a yam dealer. Disgusting for what it is. Seen them online for £15, why are the prices so different as they are both genuine Yamaha parts? Also considered from the US but shipping again is extortionate. Where is the cheapest place? Pretty sure its this that is correct for my bike: http://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk ... 0000&uid=0 Thanks
