  1. Hi guys, In two of my XV125s, the crank case breather pipe connects directly to the frame next to the carb. Lately I bought another xv125 that had caught fire burning all the wires, relays, CDI unit, battery box under the seat. In this particular bike, the breather pipe does not connect to the frame, it goes under the engine and connects to the small hole of the air cleaner... Other two bikes does not have this setup. I have noticed that the breather pipe emits oil vapor, which goes into the air cleaner and kills the sponge there...the sponge is soaked in oil and you cannot touch it for cleaning...it's brittle.. And oil vapor that goes into carb s…

Hi Guys... When I ride my xv125 I feel the engine goes off few secs and then catches again...When this happens in the traffic when you go slower the bike stops...when starting again it starts as if there werent any issue.. I thought it was the CDI, so I swapped my it with my other bike's....problem was still there. Then I thought it were coils ...swapped them with other bike's ..... problem still there. When I checked sparking, I have seen the spark stops sometimes.. Plugs are new, carb doing ok, new rods and piston rings.. My culprit I think most likely is the pick up coil....as I feel, the problem comes when engine gets hot... Pick up coil co…

I want to strip the piant from just the spokes of my cast alloy bike wheels so that the rims and hubs are still painted black yet the spokes are bare alloy which i will then put a protective coating on. Does anyone know the best way to achieve this?

Hi all. I've recently bought over a XVS400 Dragstar Classic. Everything's good except there is this audible whine from the drive train whenever I engine brake. Sounds like a jet engine idling before take off (imagine saying the letter E in falsetto). It's soft when accelerating, loud when I close the throttle, and not there when I freewheel with the clutch in. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Oh another thing, I've no mechanical experience with a bike plus I don't have a garage I can tinker around. Most probably I'll be sending it down to the local workshop to get it looked at, just trying to get a few opinions before just so I don't look like an idiot and get rip…

I'm just about to order my new XV950 but i am having a tough time deciding if i should get the standard model or the 'R' spec. the seat, paint and shocks are different on the 'R' but the thing i am really struggling with is the ABS. It is fitted as standard to the 'R' and there is no option to remove it, where as the standard model doesn't have ABS at all.I know from a saftety point of view the ABS makes perfect sense, but, i was looking through the accessories booklet today and alot of the bits they offer are saying they can't be used with ABS equipped models, imparticular the spoke wheels can't be used, seeing as i really like them and was seriously considering buying t…

I am sort of getting ideas for a new project, I have decided it has to be the 650 dragstar and one of the mods I would like is a wide rear end, I know the guy who started the 125 slagging off thread will tell me it should not be done, but has anyone on here done it or seen one done. Cheers, Gary

Got an xvs 125 and the in laws have offered to buy me some kind of luggage for Xmas, so been looking around online and started to get lost! Ideally like to get something which would hold a full face helmet ( I have a XXL full face helmet - stupid big head), so thinking a top box might be the best option but not much luck finding a luggage rack. Looking to be under £150 for rack/supports and bags/box and have found some options but not ones specifically for a xvs, e.g. Found this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-XVS125-Dragstar-2000-2012-Black-Universal-Rack-Carrier-Twin-Shock-Models-/150915982213?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item23234b2385 but not sure if a uni…

A little unsure as of where to post this, do hopefully it's in the right place, sorry if it's not!! Basically I'm waiting for my back to come back from the workshop where it's getting a new paint job, it's in a totally matte colour. I've done a little research but never really found an answer but my question is what can I use to protect and clean the bike? I've heard of using Windex and washing up liquid but apparently harsh on the paint. I want to keep the bike looking new and keep the paint in good condition, any tips, advice would be fab! 15. Hello everyone. As we all know, the Dragstar 125 is a very desireable motorcycle. To a first time buyer, there are few learner legal motorcycles on the market that look as good as the Dragstar does. And the fact that it's a Yamaha goes a long way to convincing most people that it has some reliability. Unfortunately, sadly, this is not the case. Although Yamaha has rightfully earned itself a great reputation for making quality vehicles, the XVS 125 does not live up to this reputation. I say this as an owner, with many years experience. One of the first things this motorcycle has an issue with is rust. You might think that I'm talking about chrome - well, I wish I w…

  16. Hi all, I have cleaned and tuned her carb, filter and even petcock..checked all the connections and wires. But still there is this engine stop coming on and off while riding. It is expressed to the outside as a sudden slowing..prominent when u ride on low gears like in heavy traffic. This slowing happens but least powerful when riding at high speed. Its more cruel when u are on low gears it actually stops bike. So whenever that pup sound comes I squeeze clutch so engine starts again. Say engine and bike stopped, sometimes I have to press start button several times to start again. I checked stator resistance, continuity, continuity with crankcase, same with pickup…

'ey up guys, well its coming close to me sorting out me exhausts for the bobber and im in two minds (as usual) and was wanting your thoughts. im re doing them and as you know im all about old skool useing bits thrown out or making do with what ive got. Now here is what im thinking, shall i go with the standard looking short shotgun look? or short pipes with slash cuts? or short with 90 degree kick outs? Now i aint got the cash to splash out on fancy pipes that Joe Blogg can buy so sadly a set of one off's is out the question but what ive got in the man cave can make me one of these three options. What would you have? Much love as normal

###photos will follow, when camera is located#### Just bought an xv535dx via ebay. 2000W for £1100. Never had a 'custom' before, so new ways of riding for me. picked it up, didn't have much go but sorted easily the carb diaphams were sticky (have an fzr1000 so knew the symptoms instantly). How accessible is this thing? Sorted it out in 5 minutes, then took it for a 20 miles sortie....excellent little bike, very different to the FZ1 i usually use. Front brake pathetic, but it overtakes well, handles predictably and is so, so light. Looking forward to some mini-touring on it, maybe the Netherlands again or Luxembourg.
