Just wondered how any fellow owners are getting on with their 950's - any mods, problems, warranty work etc... Mines done 1000 miles now, returning 57 mpg average ( worst 55mpg, best 59.5mpg) Performance not bad considered the low power output 112mph indicated ( about 100 actual mph) - Speedo is a good 10% out compared with GPS, Done the silencer mod on mine and fitted K&N air filter after doing the airbox mod ( now breathes cool air, against hot air from between the cylinders) - Looking forward to hearing from you .... Cheers The Terminator.

Hi fellas, As I mentioned here I bought a new virago for 350USD a month ago and its front piston rod was seized as the oil pump wheel had been worn. I got the engine fixed and it cost me around 100USD for replacing rods, piston rings and for the mechanic. The bike came back to life and wonderful acceleration and pickup. It ran fine for few days. Now it runs fine but sometimes tend to slow down and stop as if it doesnt get fuel. You feel it when u ride as it stalls, slowers and revs when u squeeze the clutch..and finally stops. Plugs are fine, both are white, no carbon soot at all. Once stopped it sometimes tries to start when cranking with starter, but…

Hi I have just bought my yamaha dragster & noticed that the bright won't work. I have removed and the control unit mounted on the handle bar and all wires where ok. I also appleyed contact cleaner to be safe. Changed bulb h4 & still. This is funny as the dim and the normal light work its just the bright. Could it be a fuse?? And if so where is the fuse box found on the dragstar 250 '03.

I put forward some of my own experience and what I have seen here and among xv125 and Yamaha riders here in SL. The common concept among mechanics and riders here in Sri Lanka is that Yamaha needs constant maintenance and attention while Hondas do not. Here people accept Honda than Yamaha. Hondas are highly valued and I too personally know that my early Honda Benly 125cc had very minor issues during its stay with me and my brother for more than 6 years being a reconditioned bike, even though it had been bored. But with my two xv125s...every month there is some electrical problem. It can be the starter, it can be a switch..battery or rectifier...it stops on the way, …

Hi All Ive had my 1300 Midnight Star for a while now and want to start customizing it. I had a ride on an XVS 950a Midnight Star and although I like the punch of the 1300 I was impressed by the 950 !!! I think what I liked most was the handlebars (Funny enough!) So,, here`s what I was thinking,,,getting a set of 950 handlebars and sticking them on my 1300 !! Has anyone ever done this?? The control lines and brake lines seem to be of equal length but I am a little dubious of splashing out 100 and plenty £`s if the idea wont work. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Ian

Seems I have a bit of blow from where the rear header connects to the rear cylinder. (I don't think there's a hole in the pipe itself). I don't think I can safely tighten those rusty old allen bolts any more. I've two shiny new ones on order, but I was wondering if adding a second aluminum fibre gasket might sort out the problem. What do you guys think?

When I stripped my 650 to fix the fuel pump issue I noticed these big cracks in the rear manifold. Do they look dangerous? http://s274.photobucket.com/albums/jj246/Austentatious_Productions/?action=view¤t=manifold.jpg

So i absolutely love cruisers and particularly the build quality of my 1990 535. The problem is this bike has been discontinued for a long time so parts will be difficult to find as time goes on. So im considering an xvs650. Thing is they never seem to come up in the UK, they seem very rare. I am particularly after a Classic one as they look better than the custom imo. One thing is, do they even make these still or did they stop production in 2008? Also, did they change anything from their release in 1997 to present? Any replies from people who have owned an xvs650 would be useful, or someone who has owned that and a 535 and can give a review of the differences?

As I mentioned earlier my bike had a bad lubrication as the oil pump wheel was worn out. It stopped and didnt start for sometime. I fitted a new wheel and flushed the engine. Now bike running but the front cylinder plug gets some oil splash and it misfires. Eventually plug stops sparking Once a new plug is fitted it fires well until it begins to misfire...once oil hits spark gap u need to wipe it away with carbon soot and put it back in. Mech says the rings seems to have abraded during the oil pump issue. So of course we will have to replace the worn with new. Am hoping to disassemble the whole engine, clean and if necessary, install new bearings and piston rods of the cr…

Hi all, been away a while, long story, supposed to be on a ride for a passed friend tomorrow but have a problem. My 650 Dragstar ran out of petrol yesterday, I filled it up today but wouldn't start, after half killing the battery I realised something... You know when you first turn the ignition on you get a rapid clicking sound? fuel pump or rectifier or something? Well that sound never clickety clicked. Recharged the battery and still no clicking or starting. Is it fuel pump? Thanks guys Austen

Good evening all, Hope somebody can be of some help. My XVS125 is what I can only describe as being clunky when I slow down. I dont have to be on the brakes or in gear for it to be like this. Recently had the usual on the service sparks air filter oil filter chain/wheel adjustment I cant feel anything when riding just when slowing down. Any thoughts appreciated. Steve

Hi, I noticed a smell of petrol in the garage around my bike the other day but thought nothing more of it. However, I have just tried to start the bike and when I turn on the ignition the fuel pump runs for ages before stopping. It usually only runs for a few seconds. When I press the starter the engine runs (on full choke) but the fuel pump starts clicking away furiously in the background. The slightest touch on the throttle, or attempt to alter the choke setting, just kills the engine. Any ideas anyone?

Well, I've gone and done it and traded the XVS1300 and SH300i for a Suzuki 650 V-Strom of all things... I loved my XVS1300 loads and wouldn't have traded it in at all, but it wasn't suited for the other half so it had to go in the end. Shame, but hopefully someone else will like it as much as what I did. One thing that did surprise me was the dealer reckons it's got double the mileage for its age (09) at 10,500 - according to that bloody Glass book it should have around 5,000 miles. I didn't even use it as much as what I wanted to...! What's the point of a bike if you don't ride it??? Anyway if anyone is interested in a cobra slip on exhaust or an O2 mod PM me... I'…

Hi everybody, i've owned this for about 2 years now, it hardly ever gets ridden due to weather/job/time and various other reasons, i have been on a 2 week holiday recently so essentially the bike hasnt been able to stretch its legs for about 6 weeks (terrible i know) A few days ago it was reluctant to start, took the spark plugs out, cleaned them and it was fine again Yesterday was the same, took them out and cleaned again but it was alot more reluctant so i bump started it and let it run for a while Today it is completely dead, spark plugs aren't sparking at all The wiring and fuses look fine in the battery compartment, im no where near mechanically minded so i c…
