  2. I owned a Star 650 for over two years while I did my L and P plates and added about 15 000 km's to the clock. I was continually looking at what I'd like to upgrade to and it took me ages to decide, but eventually upgraded to the Star 950 after sitting on 100's of bikes. I wanted something a bit bigger.....but didn't want a monster, both because of the increased cost of insurance and registration, increased fuel cost.....and the intimidation factor. I am delighted with the Star 950! The things I didn't like about the 650 were; it needed another gear, the shaft whine that really irritated me, cleaning the spokes all the time, it bottomed out on bumps (wife always rides …

Hi everyone. I have run into a tiny problem with my Dragstar 125. I was traveling to wor the other morning and the chain came off! No big issue and I got the chain on again but now its hanging loosely. I have been told its an easy fix but I don't know how to do it. I want to do it myself so I can learn how to fix problems like this myself instead of paying a mechanic to do it. I am a complete noobie when it comes to mechanical stuff and is greatly appreciate any help thanks

  7. Hi guys and girls, A friend of mine has a 1999 650 Dragstar, and its not been loved for a while now. Its not been started for at least 8 months, the battery is long dead, and its currently being kept outside (last 2 months). My question is, how much agro would I be looking at to get it started and back on the road? Its mot expired over a year ago. A friend of mine has suggested the engine will be ceased now from lack of use, is this the case with these virago derived vtwins? Im trying to get a rough idea of the cost involved in recommisioning it back to the road. Any help would be much appreciated. Seems a shame to let such a bike rot. Thanks. Stuart

i pcked myself up an xv535 after my accident and spent a few months doing it up going from this that was the ebay photo when i got it home it was a mess even found a nest in the airbox wtf haha so i stripped the bike and got it custom painted polished the forks and pretty much everything else!! new handlebars, grips, levers, riser cover, mirrors removed baffles from exhausts rebalanced carbs and got her looking like this so now i wonder what to put her value at 535's around the age of mine (1995) are going for 1200ish what do you folks think

  9. Hi all, as the title suggests im new here, im about buy a 650 dragstar custom and then turn it in to a bobber. Im wondering how much it is likely to cost to get the engine stripped and rebuilt, and if anyone knows of anywhere local, that could do it, by local i mean the Reading area. just one last question, is it possible to run a single front disk on a dragstar 1100 custom? Only asking as i quite like the cleaner look of a single disk upfront. Looking forward to chattin with you all and gettin to know you. Thanks Si

  10. Ok so guess what got delivered today and what I spent the afternoon / evening doing? Yup, got me some pipes! My draggie is now "complete"! However, on the test ride (not rejetted yet) I did this evening I discovered the following: - They are too BLOODY LOUD! Ok maybe not for some people with straight-through pipes, but they were louder than I expected. YouTube doesn't do them justice. I didn't dare open the taps too much (so didn't notice any difference in power), I was riding through residential areas after all, but I can just imagine SCREAMING down the motorway at 70! :-( It would be deafening! So I'm now looking into getting quieter baffles for them. - The…

Hey people. This has been an odd week for me, A friend is moving to a new country and has an old bike that he used very briefly. He's not wanting any ties back to the UK, And in addition wants to move as quickly as possible. This means that his XV125 that has only been used for 2103 miles has just been handed to me. I have no knowlege about bikes, I'm a 32 year old, Had a driver licence since 17, But never owned or used any bike. As far as i know he dropped it on a roundabout at very very low speed about 5 years ago, Lost his bottle and never got on it again. The damage to the bike was a minor scuff on the electric covers on the drivers side, But no other …

  16. Alrite all, I took the first step and got a set of loud pipes for the dragstar. I didnt realise that they were straight throughs (highwayhawk slashcuts) until I picked em up, but the louder the better as far as im concerned!! Only thing is I dont want the hassle of re-jetting now because I intend puttin a hypercharger on after the summer and i'll do it then. The guy in the bike shop- got em 2nd hand- said I would'nt need to re-jet but ive read in a couple of places that I should. I suppose what im asking is whether i'll get away without having to re-jet for the summer at least??

Ok it stopped running, then I was ill so it's been standing for a while and it wont start. Hooked it up to the car battery today just in case the battery was duffy even though it said it was charged. There is a spark as I tested the plugs against the engine casing. There is fuel going as far as the carbs as the pump appears to be working at least it was pumping fuel into a bucket when I disconnected the house into a bucket. It simply wont catch though even with choke. The carb needles dont seem to be sliding when we tried a little fuel into the top of them. As far as I can see fuel either isnt going past the carbs or I havent a clue. Any one got any ide…

  20. The pump attached to the float bowl does not seem to operate right...earlier I remember as I pressed it the whole at the middle of the bowl ejected petrol....I placed the bowl like shown in the pic and poured some petrol to the bowl area covering the hole at the middle, coming from the pump...I feel like some air leak in the pump and there is no ejection...I believe the the other hole running vertically to the top and coming to the top of the carb-air inlet feeds the little needle at the top to initiate start... 1. what happens if the pump washers etc. go worn? does it affect the starting? What does this circuit really do? When I was cleaning the carb with carb cl…
