First of all; thanks for a great forum. I am considering mounting the OEM passing lamps on my 2002 XVS 650A. Both because they looks cool, but mostly for visibility. You can never be too visible. Right? But I hate visible wiring. Does anyone have close-up pictures of these running lights / passing lamps when mounted on the bike? Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, new here so be gentle. I am getting back into biking at the age of 57 and would like a cruiser. I am torn between a Yamaha Virago and a Dragstar. My dilemma is that I am slightly built with a short leg and an all up weight of around 8 stone! (Yes I know I am a skinny t*at) My choices are down to a 750 Virago or the 650 Dragstar. I know I could go for a 535 Virago but I think the extra CC might be helpful. Do you think the extra weight of the Dragstar would be a problem for me? Which bike would you go for in my position? Thanks, I would appreciate the experience of Virago/Dragstar owners on this as so far I haven't even sat on one.

Recently purchased a xvs 125 in ok condition, but she has just given me problems. The bike will not rev,it bogs down on acceleration, I have to use the choke to get any performance out of this motor? The only non standard part on this bike is the air filter and I'm thinking this is the cause of this problem. The intake manifold is not cracked and its not leaking air,the carb is clean and some days I can get the motor to run trough the rev range in 3 gears then have to back off cause of the speed. A yamaha mechanic has looked at the motor and he is saying the rear cylinder is low on compression and this is the reason the bike needs the extra (fuel) choke to run? Any ideas ? …

was there ever a definitive answer to the air filter debate on a 125 dragstar xvs whether to stay with the restrictive standard filter or change for aftermarket substitute I have re- jetted and it is ok but feel it could do more with better breathing all answers whether scientific or personal opinions are welcome

  8. hi folks, this is one for you ...i have recently had my xvs 125 stripped down and powder coated etc, i had bought a 2nd hand engine which was complete apart from the shiney crank case and chrome bits the engine was from a fella down south who had the bike vandlised for whatever reason but it was a cherrished and loved bike, when i first got the bike i had a look at the plugs these where very tidy showing sign of use but no coke etc, and the oil was nice and clean which backs up the claims of its cherrished history i stuck a new clutch in new oil and all the rest of the basic maintenence things, i put the carb off the old engine straight on it, and slotted it into the fra…

With Alchemy out of business and the man in Greece not having any of these in stock, does anyone know where they can be obtained? I know they can be made up but not where the parts, especially the connectors, can be obtained. I am getting fed up with the lugging and need to do something about it. Thanks

Hi Guys OK, basic question which 9 times out of 10 means drilling out the bolt head - but just in case someone has dealt with this specific instance before... I've been attempting to remove the tank off of my 2000 model XVS650A but the front left hand bolt securing the instrument cluster to the tank is spinning. You can clearly feel the rubber spinning underneath the cluster. Tried putting upward pressure on the cluster whilst turning the bolt, wiggling and putting as much force on it as I dared - but it won't release. Has anyone come across this before and been able to remove the bolt without either drilling the head or breaking the cluster? Cheers

while I had the tank lifted up about 2 inches at the back today so that I could adjust the mixture I accidentally pulled a black wire off the rear of the carb, it came from up under the tank and had a bayonet fitting on the end, I managed to get it pushed back on where it came from ( the centre of carb at the rear )but what does this wire do ? It was only off for about a minute while the engine was running but I did notice that the idle seemed smoother with it disconnected. Has the carb got some sort of electrical heater or similar ? If so can it run without it ?? If not what is the wire for ??

Hi everybody, Had my Dragstar (2008 model with 15000 km on the clock) for nearly a year now and done 5000 kilometers with no problems. However I am finding the gearchange to be increasingly clunky, seeming to get worse every week. The oil level is fine and there is no drag on the clutch when you engage first gear, which would indicate clutch wear, but it engages with a loud "thunk", as does every gear, even with the wind noise. It is worse when changing down, even when I hold the revs neutrally with the speed (if you understand what I mean). Everything else runs sweet as a nut. My son (a real biker, I was born again a year ago) is visiting in 4 weeks and I was t…

From what I have read would I be correct in assuming these barrels will fit onto my 125 drag, which should give me around 190cc -- 200cc. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220661462441?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648

Has anyone worked out what sort of mpg they are getting ?? I just done it today in a 145 mile round trip. I brimmed the tank before I left and had to switch on to reserve 8 miles from home, so petrol station is just round corner from me , so brimmed it again and got 8.85 litres in it. so onto reserve at 137 miles = 70 mpg not too bad at all as apart from a few miles in centre of town it was all B roads and dual carriageways.

Hi all my Dragstar wheels are showing some rust on rims and spokes. Has to be said was not easy to see when I bought it few months ago. Sod had sprayed with chrome spray, which rust is now coming through. Anyway lesson learned , does anyone know of good company to get them chromed? Or would it be better to look out for someone selling wheels?
