Hello all. First off just wanted to say I've been lurking around on this site for a few years since I got my little xs in '08 and I have learned more about the bike (and bikes in general) than anywhere else. So thanks to all you mechanical gurus on here that help keep all of us amatuer tinkerers straight! So........ the headlight works when the switch is turned all the way to the right (the parking light mode). Switch the key to the middle, or "on" position - no headlight. I took the ignition switch off and dis/reconnected everything. The problem is obviously not in the handle bar switch. Havent pulled the headlight off yet. Any ideas? Thanks a million.

Hey Guys, I've almost finished rebuilding my XS250 and have reached the final hurdle (I THINK?) It seems as though my Neutral and Oill lights don't seem to want to come on. And looking at the diagram I think it may be due to the voltage regulator. Has anyone else seen this situation? Cheers

Hi everybody! I'm having trouble finding the oil I usually use in my '77 xs500. I have always used Castrol moto 20w50 (It was called "ActEvo" last few years). It is a simple mineral oil. The sevice guys suggested I change to Yamalube 20W50, which is a semi-synthetic oil.(surprisingly, cheaper then mineral Castrol). The old thing has been running for the past 30++ years on mineral, is it clever to shock it with synthetic now? What about clutch and stuff? Any experience? Thanks in advance.

Hello , I just picked up a 79'Yamaha xs400 , the ID begins with 2L0...This is my first street legal bike, seems to be in good shape. I have a few more months before riding weather and have the bike inside, so i'd like to make sure it's all ready to ride. I'm hoping to find a manual soon, but I'd like to know what position to leave the pet cock while the bikes not running...left:RES...down:ON...Right:PRI?

Hello , I was Wanting to remove the marker lights , to perhaps snug them to the bike , they look like they're in 3 pieces ....? Im looking at the "wire" connection and wondering if it has to be cut to removed, as it does not look as it will pull through ...? how would i go about removing these....I will take precautions and disconnect the battery before I begin . should i begin at the bulb end or disconnect the "wire" connection , that i have followed to the headlight bucket. Also wondering if its ok to start a new thread with each question I have...?Im new to forums, and having trouble posting pictures, it states that there is an error , to log in , or that the pict…

First thing first i would like to wish EVERYONE a Merry Xmas and a Good Safe new year. Now on with my question i have a 91 XJ900F wich i have never ridden and i have heard from friends that riding a shaft drive is totaly different to a normal bike. Some say dont change down to quickly and give it a rev when i do others say dont be to quick with the clutch. I need to know what the score is bearing in mind i have been riding for 10yrs. now so i am not a bike virgin just a shaft one? but have just got over a broken leg and ankle so i dont want to lock the bike up as i have been told that it can happen. Thanks in advance for a help and keep the rubber down and youselves up.

Hello everybody , i am new here and i must say that i enjoy reading you all. I am also a new owner of a YAMAHA CHAPPY LB50 1976 and to my surprise its not just an ordinary chappy as i knew it back then . It has a manual 4speed transmition with clutch, 49cc and as i was googlin it i discover that its kinda rare mini bike that YAMAHA produced only for a couple of years 1976-1977 . Its a bike fun to ride it . I like its style and its reliebility as it has a bullet proof engine with some great gadgets for the time , such as the YAMAHA autolube system for the mix-oil . I got it for my son to learn how to ride a bike but i cant take my hands off of it ... I will post som…

Hi, I'm looking for ideas for fitting modern wire wheels possibly supermoto wheels to a 1980 XS 400, I've toyed with the idea of replacing the forks and yokes completely to make life easier for modern front wheel fitting, also thinking about replacing the swing arm again hoping that modern wheels/brakes will fit better. Has anyone experimented with this? Cheers
