My stock exhausts are in a pretty bad shape. They both have holes in them and exhaust gasses are leaking out from them. So I was wondering, it is possible to make your own exhaust? I've got this idea so far: Would this be any good? Would it give enough backpressure, like the original exhaust pipes? In between the outher and inner pipe I would put some steel wool or something to dampen it. I'm open for ideas, as I think a straight pipe wouldn't be to good. (Makes to much noise when I have to use it for school every morning )

I have had the bike for sometime and its just sitting in the garage because no one in my town will work on it. Please give any advice you my have THNAKs...

I picked up 3 bikes 2- 125's and a mx 100. Going to fix 2 of them up. I got the 125 running and it starts and idles like a charm but has no guts. The carb is clean and tank is clean fresh gas but when you hit 5g,s its done. Could the points do this? The bike has a true 2500 miles. I got it from a guy that bought it for his kids to ride to school and back in the 70's and it has been sitting in a garage sence 1978.

Hello, I am getting what I think is a 1975 DT 400 but cannot find reference anywhere to the numbers that are stamped on the frame and engine. They are matching numbers :501-003291. I am told there is really good compression but I seem to remember the DT had a decompressor on it. I do not know about the MX. I dont even remember where the decompressor is located. Is it a knob you pull out or what. I have not seen this bike yet but I sure am looking forward to playing with it. It will be a change from my little 800 Cruiser. Thanks for any help

Firstly can i ask does the seat lift via the helmet lock doodah under the left hand side of the seat and 2 pivot hinges or is it a bolt on?. Mine is a 78 registered model by the way and secondly the left hand switchgear on mine is off an RXS and is causing a straight short when operated.. If there are any RS125 owners could you take a pic if the left hand switch gear please so i can see which one i need, Thanks in advance Mick

After having removed seat and finding a black plastic bag under the fuse box, I wondered what that was. So I picked it up, but the cables kinda jumped out of the plug in the other end as it was just 3 wires hanging loosely in the plug. So now I need some help to get it wired correctly back together as I'm a newbie to electrics :S The voltage regulator has 3 connections with the letters E, F and I on them. I kinda think E means earth (ground or whatever), but I don't know about the 2 others. From the bike theres a plug for the voltage regulator with the wires black, brown and green. So the question is, which connection goes to which wire? Will just post links ins…

Guys i need some advice please.. I am busy goign through the wiring on the RS125DX as it has been butchered in a few places.. it became apparent that every bulb i checked was fried so i replaced a couple and sure enough they worked without th eengine running.. now a strted the engine and within seconds 2 of the 3 bulbs popped and the 3rd one was very bright indeed which leads me to think theres far too much voltage reaching them... I dont know much about that side of electrics so can anyone help me and give me an idea as to why this is happening.. dodgy rectifyer or regulator?.. the rectifyer looks fairly new however the wiring too it is non standard.. any ideas…

Ok I am in the beginning of the build of my 1979 XS400. I am in the stage where I am cleaning things out and trying to start it. My problem is that I cannot get the darn seat to open! I see the key lock under the rear of the seat, it has HELMET on the right and SEAT on the left. I am guess I put the key in and turn the key lock to the left to open the seat. I tried this and couldnt unlock the seat, I even sprayed PB Blaster in there to try and free up the lock (it has been sitting for at least 20 years). If the lock is frozen how can I get the seat off of there? Please Help Me!!!!

Perhaps a dumb question but... I want to change the lines of my xs400 by slightly lowering (angling) the frame member under the seat and lengthening the swing arm by 4 inches. Part of my reasons to do this is to make the bike more comfortable. Can anybody tell me if it's better to chop the swing arm and extend it, or to create a new swing arm from scratch? I don't weld so I must find someone, and a bike shop in town told me they won't extend a swing arm because of liability. Does making a swing arm longer make the bike a lot more dangerous?

So I've got a '80 XS650. I know a little about mechanics, and close to nothing about electrics so keep any replies as easy as possible. Still learning everyday. Ive been having huge issues with the electrics for my head/tail light. Im not paying a mechanic $60/hr cuz ive fixed many problems with the bike thanks to this forum. I'm hearing a buzzing coming from the Reserve lighting device. Ive read you dont need this, and that many people remove it. http://www.excess650.co.uk/tips%20&%20tricks.htm It says disconnect then throw the RLD as far as you can, then just connect the blue/yellow to the blue/black. Thats fine but theres still 4 other wires that were goi…

I just bought my first bike for from a farmer in Wisconsin. A blue 1975 RD200 with 1200 miles. The bike is in great condition, no rust even original tires. Looks brand new, was parked in a barn for 20 some years. I stared it and it turned over, but stared making a loud squealing noise. It is really a cool bike so I just had to have it. The farmer sold it to me for $200 because of the strange noise the engine was making. I hope it did not waste my money. Just wondering if anyone knows what might be the problem and how much to fix? Also, what it might be worth after it is runnning smoothly. I hope to ride it this summer. Thanks!

A friend of mine had a 1981 XS400h sitting in his garage for past 5 years non running and I am attempting to fix it for him as a surprise. I know he didn't have the keys, but I was able to take the ignition switch off and have one made to get started. My first problem from there is that key didn't match the gas tank or the helmet/seat lock. The key went in all 3 locks, but only seemed to work the ignition. I understand that from the factory that these all were one key, correct? So I assume the ignition switch may have been replaced before as it was in good condition. So I am curious if these are easy to access key codes on the gas cap lock, and/or the helmet lock? …

Hi Guys, i have just bought an RS125DX with the standard spoked wheels and of course they are crusty as usual.. Now my question is i would like to fit mag wheels and have heard a whisper that Yam RD 12-200 DX mags fit and maybe even RD125LC wheels too. Have any of you guys tried any of these wheels on an RS and if so did you have any issues fitting them? Thanks in advance
