In the 1970's did yamaha make and sell in the USA a three cylinder liquid cooled 2-stroke road bike? If so can someone tell me what it was and possibly post a pic of one. Thank you.

Hello: I'm new to the forum and looking for a little guidance on putting the motor back together. The head was off, so the timing chain had a link removed and this is the chain that was in the motor. I have a new link, but have trouble getting the exhaust cam to the book specified 1 to 1.5mm past the cap mark. The intake cam lines up at about 1mm to the left of the mark per the XS500A,B,C repair manual, but the exhaust falls at either 1mm the wrong side of the mark or about 5mm to the correct side of the mark. Am I missing something? Can't be chain stretch if the intake lines up, as this is on the tension side of the chain. Any help would be appreciated. R…

Hi everyone I am putting my seca back together after hitting a dear, when I cut the shredded grip of the thottle tube the of the tube was shattered. I looked on bike bandit and found a replacement unit for 40+ bucks and given that most bikes have replacement tubes in the 8 to 15 dollar range I was wondering if anyone knew of a generic that will work on the XS400? thanks Ned Williams 82 XS400R

Anyone have any experience with "IRC" brand tires? Will replace my mismatched Chinese tires this Spring with a new set of cruisers. Want to keep the same replacement size as currently on the bike and as recommended by Yamaha: Front-100/90x18, Rear-120/90x16. Checking around I find it very difficult here in the U.S. to find both sizes in the same brand tire. I thought I saw them listed for Shinko a while back but not now. Did find the IRC brand in both sizes at Motorcycle Superstore for $77 each with free S&H. Not as low a price as I wanted but probably not that much more since the S&H is free.

Got an odd one here.....81' XS400H keep blowing my ignition fuse. stripped out harness completly, got a hot wire going to igniton switch, then power supllied properly to reg, a rect, stator, pickups, coils, and ignitor. this is all that is hooked up now, only fuse is on main red wire, 20a fuse(main), . I figured if I went through and made a bobber harness, I would find any issues that could have been causing the igniton fuse to blow, found nothing. anyways, bike starts and runs fine, just had tank sitting on frame temp, to supply fuel while I test, as I moved the tank, I got sprks happening from tank to frame, and poof, ignition (main) fuse blew again. Throw a fuse in, fi…

Hi to all,I need some advice regarding my 79 xs 250 I have been trying to trace a idling problem once the bike is warm, done the basics, fuel ok,points new and gapped properly.I thought I'd check the ignition timing,so I pulled off the cover to get alook at the timing marks, jeeze I thought that I'd undone the sump plug by mistake!oil every where inside the alternator,it's a wonder that it was running,is there an oil seal behind the alternator rotor or do I have a big problem? Is this a common fault with the xs 250? Any help would be appreciated........thank you

I have an 81 XS400 that I have chopped and hardtailed and rode all last year. I took it apart this winter and painted it, etc. and I decided to rewire it rather than use the loom I made up last year, to do a neater job than the first time around. Anyway, I cannot get it to charge. It starts fine, runs great, but sits at 12v or less. The wiring is very simplified, as I have removed the starter circuit, among other things. I have the regulator, rectifier, and ignitor box at the moment. All are wired the same as last year as far as I can tell, I used the same diagram. Does it matter which white wire goes to which on the rectifier? Where shouldI start looking? …

Hi There, I had a back wheel off for maintenance and when putting it back on found im missing the bolt that the brake rod goes through securing it to the actuating lever. I uploaded a picture, its not numbered but its that cylindrical bolt with the hole in it between the digits 27 & 28. Any Ideas on where to get a proper replacement, I figure on going to a hardware store and browsing for something that will fit. The Bikes a 1978 Yam XS400. With Thanks,

my second posting , sorry to keep asking questions , hopefully one day I will have the abilities with yamaha,s to answer some? I have a 1980 xs400 that is an american import (we think) , the bike was bought from the back yard of a dealers , as a customers non runner , after a bit of work doing the fork seals , freeing the brakes , and most importantly getting her to run on 2 pots (fuel vac pipe off!) , she has an mot. now the bike had been played around with by the PO father , carbs mainly , and i,ve reason to suspect that the floats were swopped , they are the brass type. can,t seem to locate info on those carbs , but the later DOHC shows that y…
