I bought an 1979 XS 750 Special for a "starter bike." I rode it home and the oil appears to be low (can't see it in the window), but it is dawn so maybe I will see the oil line when the sun is shining tomorrow. If it does need engine oil, what oil should I use for this model?

Just got the CT3 through an MOT, so can do some road testing. Couple of things.....I believe I have put it back to standard gearing (45 teeth rear: 16 teeth front), but at 6000 revs in top gear the speedo reads 40 mph. 5000 revs is about 30 mph. Is that normal? Also, it has just had a rebore, so I don't want to push it too hard, but it really struggles to go above 5000 rpm. I had introduced an air filter, but it is the same with or without. Checked the timing, and its as close as I can get it. Any suggestions from all you experts out there?

Is there another way of checking the timing besides buying a special tol and measuring when the piston is 1.8mm before top dead centre? And is there a way to adjust it apart from adjusting the point gap size?

front brake leaver pulling right in to bar grip ,no front brake? (resevoir is full up tp mark) bled right hand side? no resistance. bled left hand side , same no resistance, no fluid leaks any where, it appears that the brake master piston is stuck into the fully depressed possition , but i thought this would have jammed the front brake on? it hasn't though. has this happed to anyone , and should a seal kit cure this, cheers chaps.

  8. The engine has spark, fuel, and compression. The timing is off by 90 degrees and I have no idea how to fix this problem. There doesn't look like there's any way to adjust it and these are all factory components...I must be missing something. Any help? Thanks.

  9. Hello everyone, This is my first post, since I have recently purchased a Yamaha motorcycle and love it. I would enjoy riding it, if I could get it started. Any help or suggestions that anyone can provide would be GREATLY appreciated!!! On to the issue: I have a 1980 Yamaha xs850 Special. I just purchased it recently. When I try to start the bike, the starter clicks and makes a grinding sound that doesn't sound fun at all. The motor only turns over slightly, but the starter goes crazy. I have performed a lot of maintenance on the bike since acquiring it, and it includes: - Brand new battery - New spark plugs - Oil & filter change - Air filter change - Disco…

here is where I'm at right now. My freind just picked this bike up, and here is how we found the guts of the headlight bucket. All I've done so far is sort out what wires are going where. All electrical works except for electric start & turn signals. anybody have any pointers on where some of this is supposed to go? or if i even have the right number of relays? Diagram shows only one flasher relay, but there are two in here...? thanks!

  12. I want to change the push rod on my son's '81 125 DX (cast wheel), and I have found one at Yambits which is for "RD200 & DX 1973-1981". Would that be the same as on the 125 DX? I know they share a lot of parts, but not which ones. http://yambits.co.uk/rd200-clutch-push-rod-p-12666.html?osCsid=dl85ndmjgvuehq35v3ssih8gi1

The spark appears to be a bit weak on the old XS, does anyone have any recommendations on where to source some New coils from, don't really want to end up with some cheapo nasty Chinese tat 'tis all. Or any ideas why spark would be weak, have new plugs, leads fitted already. Cheers Jak....

Hi - I'm after some help regarding interchangeabilty between the RD and RS 200's exhaust systems. The worst parts of my newly aquired RS200 are the exhausts - the headers are not that bad but the silencers are very badly rusted. Do RD200 silencers fit okay, both in terms of physical fit and performance/backpressure etc? These seem much easier to get hold of, and seem a bit cheaper. Are they, in fact, the same thing with identical part numbers? I've found a previous posting saying that the RD headers won't fit the RS barrels but it's not clear if RD silencers will fit RS headers or not? I'm okay with making up adapter rings if required. Anybody know anything abo…

Hello Everyone, I have spent some time searching not only this forum the but net itself for some information about the TX 750's. Thus far information has been limited and not particular favorable unfortunately. I have found a few small niche groups with some good information about them but other then that they appear to have been dismissed as a bad idea. I am always up for a challenge and never afraid to step outside the box so I will take on the challenge. I am not 100% sure of what I am starting with as I haven't seen the bikes as of yet (tommarrow I will) but I know there is a 73 and a 74 and alot of spare parts. I am also getting a 74 TX 500 as part of the sam…

Took a break today from working on the RT3 restore and took the DT out for a spin. As you may recall, second to last ride out I had a heat seize due to running too lean. Went to larger jets and with a little tinkering got her running well again. Even got it to tickover like it should. Idles great now. As I rode, keeping it under 45 mph/ 4500 rpm, it developed this sound that had me saying, "Now what?" When easing off the throttle it made a noise like loose paper flapping. Rolling on the sound disappeared but came back when easing. Almost sounded like the reeds were flapping, but power was good with no backfiring, indeed nothing strange but the noise. After I got…

Hello, i am a newbie to this but it seems like a very friendly and usefull forum. Could anyone give me advie regarding fitting of a single seat to my lovely SR125? Which specific type of seat would fit, where could i get it and is it just as easy as unscrewing the original seat and screwing the new one on....or is there more tinkering required? any thoughts would be great appreaciated, and may stop me looking at suzuki gz125's!!
