Top o the marnin all, Looking at maybe doing a NEO conversion to 12 volt electrics on my U.S. DT. So far cannot find any sealed-beam 12 volt lights to fit, so thinking about buying the U.K. version 1M1 headlamp assembly which takes the three-hole bulbs. Any thoughts?

Hello all my worthy Yamahaulers, New guy from the states(got a post in the newbie forum) and hope I'm not too quick off the mark. I have not been able to find anything addressing the battery's necessity in the electrical circuits of 70s and early 80s DT-type enduros. I have a 1978 DT175E that is waiting on a 6V battery, and I was curious if the lighting coils need the battery in the system in order to operate the lights and horn correctly. Anyone know enough electrical theory on this one? I am suspecting it's an amperage thing and that the coils produce the volts but not enough amps. I see that some choose to convert their systems to 12V and I guess that's to make the…

I am new to the forum and am hoping to find somebody browsing with some experience under their belt. I love classic motorcycles and recently discovered a 1980 xs850 midnight special edition for an extremely reasonable price. I will be going to check it out soon, hopefully test her out, but was curious if anyone knew what I should look for. I am a novice mechanic, have fixed up one 1979 xs400 already, but want to know what things are commonly worn out as well as what I should pay attention too. I know the basics, compression in the cylinders, not too much rust, no standing gas in the carbs, but I'm interested in some specific things that are known to be faulty. I thank any…

About a year ago I bought a Yamaha LB50 Chappy. It was not in a great shape but it was almost complete. This is a Yamaha twostroke that's rare in my country. : It is a Yamaha LB50 Chappy. It is a 50cc "minibike" with 2 gear automatic gearbox and mountain gearing. Carburator and manifold are missing and rearlight needs to be re-newed as well but the rest is fairly complete. In Thailand you even can get new parts for these bikes. Was at first red but som idiot painted it blue with a spraycan :smt013 Frame, headlight and mounts and bodypart underneath the buddyseat are mad of steel and will be powdercoated, probably in "Black Gripp" like…

Hello I just bought a 1981 Yamaha 550 Maxim and I want to customize it! The bike is stock and in great condition, but im really tall so I need to make adjustments as well as some cosmetic upgrades. Right now my handlebars are to small so I want to install 12inch ape hangers, I think its 7/8 bars but im not sure. Also all the switch housings, brake and clutch etc etc on the handlebars are broken and worn and I would like to replace EVERYTHING on the handlebars with CHROME! The speedometer works but the tac does not so I would also like to replace both with chrome as well. So my question is, where can I get these things and how do I know if it will wire up and fit? I don…

Hi Can anyone help I have a German import RD350lc been dong some research myself. Has got the steering lock in the headstock. Seems that the german model did not have the steering lock incorparated in the ignition switch have searhed the german ebay site and found an ignition switch without the lock so my theory does seem to be correct. Someone has fitted an aftermarket ignition lock with the rectangular steeering lock facility. I have found the steering lock pin can be rectangular or round on different locks. No idea which one is right. So can anyone tell me which shape pin is right? as the one on my bike does not work, does not seem to locate into the frame …

Good morning...... Can someone please recommend a genuine and good bike mechanic who works on `the older bike` local to Chertsey in Surrey, who is reasonable when it comes to the wonger. I have a 1980 XS750se US Custom (triple) that has petrol pissing out of one or more of the carbs. I have tried tapping the bowls to try and free anything that is stuck up inside but with no success. I think the carbs need to come off for a sort out. I`m a six inch nail and hammer man with a short temper ......so think it best to leave to an expert! I can deliver and collect the bike. Cheers, Mick.

Im mostly a car guy but was able to obtain my dad's 1978 Yamaha XS500, he bought it brand new and it only has 10k on it. It has been sitting but i was able to get it running a few summers ago. The alternator needs replacement but from what I've read the electrical system on this bike was a weak point (which is why they stopped making it after a few years). Was able to get the carbs cleaned yesterday, pilot jets are clean, idle is back to normal. Other than a mouse living in the exhaust I didn't have too many issues once I got it running. Joined to learn more about the bike and browse the for sale section : ) Will an alternator from a TX500 work for my XS500?

Hey guys, I've recently purchased a '76 XS500, and I'm looking to get some new tighter front springs, as the bike more or less nose-dives when I hit the front brakes, and also for better riding. The problem is that I, nor anyone in the shops around town (Vancouver) know the specs for the springs, or any compatible models so that I know which ones to order. If anyone knows somewhere where I can find the right springs, or the specs so I can order them from a shop, I would be very appreciative. Thanks,

Picking brains again.. I haven't been let down so far very impressed with the knowedge out there My latest problem is the spindly 34mm forks on my XS500. I don't want to pay £150+ for a re-chrome (unless you know anywhere I can get it done cheaper!!!). Is there another model that shares the same headstock dimensions as mine but will allow me to use bigger diameter forks? Does the LC range use the same yolks (tripletrees in US ) with 35mm legs for example? I would be happy to use the 34mm legs but it seems like the larger sizes are much easier to find
