  2. Started by PPhem,

I am picking up a $400 xs650 this week that is in good shape aside from being slightly ugly, needing new tires, and one turn signal. The problem is that I don't know what size came standard on the bike or what tires will run for this thing. Any help would be appreciated. This is my first bike and I'm excited to get it running and looking great for the summer

Hello Yamaha fans, I'm new here so be kind. Currently I have a RT1 360 engine in pieces, ready to put back together. Does the shifter cam need to be in a certain position before the engine halves are sealed together? Also what is the shift pattern for this transmisson? If anyone has lots of knowledge about this particular Yamaha, please give me as much info as possible. Thanks mudjammedfender 1973 YAMAHA 360 RT1 ENDURO

Hi i've got a yamaha dt100 that uses the yamalube sytem, i want to know what is the correct two stroke oil to be used (as in mix ratio). I've heard all sorts of figures from friends but i just want to make sure, before anyone asks what is the worst that can happen if the ratio is two low then i could risk teh engine seizing, tweo high and i'll have trouble starting. Any and all responses will be welcome Adam

Ok, I am a new Yamaha Club member. I own a 1973 RT3 360 and would like to find where owners have found correct color paints for this bike. I am beginning a frame-off restoration and want a correct match, if possible, on the Baja Brown color. Any suggestions? - Jon

I have a little situation: 1980 XS400, stock exhaust (small hole rusted on bottom left @muffler, not fixed yet), pod filters, stock #135's. It much prefers full choke to even start, though when it wasn't 40 degrees outside, half choke sometimes did the job. Once it's warmed up a bit, the choke can be cut off and it'll idle fine, settles-in right at 1,200. When cold, she stumbles a bit. Once warm, she revs fine. She just doesn't like to Un-Rev. It takes a good 3-4-5 seconds to settle back down to idle. So: What carb situation is indicative of requiring half-to-full choke to start, and what would cause the revs to come down so slowly? I would tend to guess it's a little…

I picked up a 77 DT100 from a friend and he estimates it hasn't run in 15 years. To make matters worse, someone lost the key at some point and attempted to hot wire it and threw away the switch. Seems complete and I'm interested in fixing it up but I'd like to hear it run before I spend any $ on it. Can anyone tell me how to connect the ignition wires so it will get spark? It has four wires red, black, brown, and black/white. Which wires have to be connected in order to turn it to on? Thanks, Tom

I'm trying to find a starter clutch rebuild kit for my '81 XS400. This would be the three rollers, springs and caps. Does anyone know where to find one in either Canada or the US? Ebay would work for me. Thanks all! Mark

  11. Started by Special Man,

Hey all. Ive got my XS400 up and running then all of a sudden it died! It cranks and cranks but won't fire. I grounded out the plugs and no spark. Changed the plugs (New NGKs), still no spark. Changed the ignition switch and the coils. Still no spark. I do however get a spark out of the plugs when they are grounded if I turn the ignition switch on and off. . . What's next in line to change out? The voltage regulator? Rectifier? Ignitor unit? Any thoughts?? Thanks!!

I have a 78 xs400. I recently replaced the float, needle and seat, gaskets. I adjusted the floats to the specs(1.25in) and the inlet carb overflows with fuel. Ive tried to adjust the tang on the float but the difference in measurement means no fuel in the bowl or it just overflows. I have no idea why but its pissing me off. It floods the cylinder bad enough that the plug wont fire. I would appreciate any help on this issue. Doug

I am thinking about buying a 550 seca that needs some work. The ad for it states that it needs a new clutch. Can anyone tell me about how much it would cost for a new clutch assembly and how easy/difficult it might be to find one for this bike? Any help would be much appreciated.

I know I've seen this issue brought up in other threads, but I'm at a loss. I have the "hang at 4k" problem. I understand this is because the mix is too lean? Yesterday I went out and checked the pilot jets and they are screwed in all the way to a gentle seat and it still hangs. I have checked the boots and as far as I can tell there is no air leak. Do I need to change pilot jets? Re-clean?
