For the Vintage Yamahas

Last couple internal threads are also stripped. Know they make self-tapping drain bolts, but i'm afraid that would make the cracking worse. Figure the long term fix would be to have it welded and re-drilled. Aside from that, any other ideas?

Hi As the title really, has anyone got any links to UK based spares suppliers? I am particularly looking for a nice after market exhaust that is in keeping with the bikes appearance and not to modern looking. Cheers in advance Mark

Just got an Enduro 125 marked 6/73 on the neck. Is this a 1973 at3 or a 1974 dt125? I'd appreciate any help. Also is there any good places for parts for this bike besides Ebay? Thanks!

I bought a mini crash bar off E-bay a few weeks ago for my 83 XS400. Come to find out its not for my bike its for the earlyier SOHC 400's Its a Factory part, like new, the chrome is perfect, all hardward still in the orginal bag, never been installed, still has the genuine Yamaha parts sticker on the bar. I would like to get my money back on it, $30 or I would trade for a airbox for a 1983 XS 400 Maxim. Thanks email at [email protected]

Well last year I bought an 83 maxim 400 DOHC with about 4500 miles on it.. Now it has 8000... I'm just wondering what the valve check intervals are on these bikes? How often do they need checked and how hard are they to check? Also, if out of spec how hard are they to adjust on this bike? Its winter so I do have some spare time and can't ride anyways but I dont want to mess with it if it isnt necessary. Thanks!

I've jus brought a 82' DT250MX engine but its missing the cdi unit and i jus know that'll cost more than the engines worth, Would the stater plate and points from the earlier model fit the MX engine???? would i have to change the genarator/fly wheel ect to??? The engines going in a TZR 125 chassis for track days and day time use only so lightings Brake light only and i may run total loss as weights a issue and the more electrical gubbins jus puts it on. Any info would be helpfull, I know this aint a fast engine to start with but a major weight loss chassis wise, a stage 4 tune, 36mm mikuni carb, gibson pipe, reeds and road bias gearing i should rattle along nicel…

Just got a 1974 dt 125---or so I think-- it says 6/73 on the neck but my research so far says its a 74 dt and not a 73 at3. Am told if its maroon its a 74. It says Enduro 125 on the right side muffler. Any enlinghtening responses on this continuing mystery?? It's driving me crazy so any help is useful. But Anyway---there is a button on the right handle bar right below the RUN and OFF switch that says START. Does this bike have electric start? If so, where is the starter motor? I know I can look it up in a service manual but still need to nail down what year this bike is so I can get the right manual.. Does anyone besides Clymer make one? What did they use back in 197…

I know the DT 360 is 446, I'm thinking MX 360 is a 364, but I've been wrong before...that bike also has the fuel tank with a mounting stud up thru the tank body center, is this correct? Is Speed and Sport the only option for old NOS for Yammy? I need side plates, fenders, and replacement seat covers for '77 YZ 250 D and '79 YZ 125 F. I will be @ PVR swap meet 1/25/09 in York,PA. Could someone meet me there with these parts? I'll even pay for them... if not, anyone know where I might find these ?

I have an 400 Special that I picked up from a guy who has let it sit for about 6 years. I took the carbs off, and sprayed them with carb cleaner really well, and got it running, but not great. Replaced the plugs, wires, etc, but still runs a little ragged. I've heard a couple people mention ultra sonic carb cleaning here, and was curious just what this involves. I have a good buddy that runs a repair dept. for industrial water purification equiptment. He has one of these units at his work and offered to clean my carbs for me. Should the carbs be completely disassembled for this, or just put into the cleaner as a whole? He doesn't use the machine for anything as intr…

So I have the wiring diagram from the manual and I blew it up on the copier. Hooked up almost all the wires (one has no home) and I noticed not all the colors match. In the end I have lights but everything appears to be running on AC so the headlight dims when blinkers are turned on or brake light is hit. Also, when you rev the bike up, the bulbs blow. My diagram does not show a regulator, only a rectifier so I'm stumped. Also battery is a loss (original from 1977) but this shouldn't matter right? One last symptom is the blinkers don't flash. Could this be because the flasher is hooked to AC also? Thanks, Tom

  18. Started by Rob at MDC,

I just picked up a 1978 DT400E that is in decent shape for its years (filling all the squares that went unfilled when I was younger and poorer). Took it out into the Idaho desert for a run last weekend and it ran the legs off my KLR 650. Started with three kicks at 45F. A little crusty looking but I think it gives it character. Just one problem, it leaks badly around the shifter, enough so that I don't have to worry about finding my way back home. Looks like I need a shift shaft sealing boot according to bikebandit.com. Unfortunately it seems to be a discontinued item. Does anyone know of a source or suitable substitute? Thanks, Rob

  19. I looking at what caliper I could fit to my RD200 project, and wondered if I could use an alternative than the original (and rare) caliper? Any ideas?
