Ever since I got this bike (a 78 xs400e), it's been reluctant to start - nursing either the electric start or the kickstart, it would only grudgingly start up - once running, it seemed to run well, just not wanting to start up. So I went through all the obvious stuff - yes, it had spark, yep, charged battery. Hey, even good compression! Clean carbs, and once it starts, it seemed the air/fuel mix was decent. But especially with the colder weather, starting the little beast was becoming impossible. Went through the whole checklist again today, and decided that, while it was giving a visible spark, was it a "fat" spark? So decided to run through the ignition system. B…

Anyone know if these aftermarket turn signals on Ebay are any good? They are around 20 bucks for all four. Seems too good to be true. I guess I would like to avoid anything aftermarket anyway but having trouble finding these for my 1974 DT 125. Any advice where to get them?

Hey guys! Just wondering if anyone knows where to find some mag wheels to fit a 72 R5? I've looked on ebay but can't really find much. I'm not sure though which other bikes I may be able to find them on that will fit mine.... Thanks!

Hi, I posted a few days back and I have now purchased an sr185. Can I put a 400 or 500cc engine in it? What will have to be changed/modified to do this? Thanks! Brad

I think the ignition needs adjusting, there is a slight flat spot at 3500-4000 rpm which no amount of fiddling with the carb has fixed. With a strobe the timing is spot-on but it "jumps about" at the flat spot rpm, and I have been told the air gap in the pick-up may be wrong. Can anyone shed some light on this and explain how to cure the problem ???

Hi, I'm new here, so i'l introduce myself first. I bought myself an old 1978 RS-100 a few years back as a little run around while i was at uni. when i got it it was real cheap, in a bit of a state, and took me a load of effort to get it through an Mot. Now it's come that i'm settled in a job, and the bikes sat in the garage in need of a lot of TLC. I'm here to ask if anyone knows the sort of value one of these may have? both in it's current state and if it were mint. it's rock solid chassis wise, engine ran sweet when i used it daily, and only 16k on the clock. brakes were an issue with the last Mot, and at present the tanks bubbling a bit due to me leaving…

Free bike parking for motorcyclists could be scrapped nationally because information needed to oppose the move has been kept from riders, according to campaigners. Under law people have six months to object to new parking charges for motorcycles becoming permanent. But public notices telling riders vanished within days of the charges being introduced. A campaign group says motorcyclists across the country will lose long-standing free bike parking bays and urges riders to sign the group’s petition on Number 10’s website at Deadline to sign up by: 06 March 2009 http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/bikeparkingfees/

Am attempting to replace my fork seals 1974 dt 125A-- and ordered from Dennis Kirk--Parts Unlimited brand. I removed the old ones--only they were kind of baked in--and came out in tiny bits and peices--so nothing to compare new ones to. The ones I have aren't going in. The manual says tap then in and seat them with a big socket--but these babies aren't gonna go---Unless there is something I don't know about installing them. Are the Parts Unlimited ones bogus? Yamaha wants $29.00 Apeice--and as much as I like the ole DT--I don't like it that much. I just hoped to get cheaper fork seals or some advice on how to install them. It's a really tight fit, right? Anywhere…

I own a 1978 DT-250 and was just wondering what MPG you guys are getting on these. I have the 78, which is 16 or 17hp instead of the older 20hp on the older DT's. I think im barley getting over 30 which kinda sucks, I thought i read somewhere on 70mpg : ( --- If i could get 40mpg I would be alot happier. I bought the bike for 80% wanting a bike and 20% to save gas because i own a 86 ford f150 12mpg in city. What MPG are u guys getting with ur DT's?

I have a 1974 dt 125 and have power to the back of the horn--then a pink wire runs up to the button--where I guess you ground it when you push the button.. I a bit dim when it comes to electricity---but no sound from the horn. I have cleaned all the parts of the button and made sure it's making contact.. Anyone know how I would test the horn itself to see if it the problem? Do they go bad? Can you just jumper wire to it to activate it? I have tried a couple things but still silent. I appreciate any help. Thanks!
