Yep, just picked it up for $150, and I'm not sure if it was worth it. It's pretty rough. I don't know much at all about these bikes, but I'm searchin the forum, readin the manual pdfs, etc. I heard it run before, but I'm not sure how they guy started it. Starter button is gone, and battery is dead. Hooked up a car battery and jumped the big starter switch under the seat with a screwdriver, but couldnt quite get it to go yet. Before I go though, need atleast some brakes. Front master seems to do nothing, tried flushing things out, now doing the trick of holding in handle over night to get fluid thru it. Rear brake does nothing, havent torn into it yet. …

Hello to anyone checking this question out. I am a confirmed coffin dodger still mucking about with 2 strokes. (cant be bothered with valves and chains etc) but I have always had #uzu#is up to now, apart from when I was a youngster. Anyway my son has a rd 125 lc which I put him onto so now he has the 2 stroke illness, and a few days ago he kindly filled my empty shed with a yamaha which he came across on a rundown farm building. The engine size is stated as 195cc and it has a drum front brake, its a big old beast for the engine size and its a new one on me.Have no v5 yet just a key engine no say's #3L2-000472# Cant read frame no at minute. It also has a single carb alth…

The Clymer mentions the use of a dial indicator to aid in static timing, but no Yamaha part number, range of readings on correct dial indicator, or even a clear illustration on the complete setup. I'm familiar with dial indicators set up on magnetic bases to measure movement loading rock anchors, etc. Any input on parts / bits and pieces to put this all together to do the static timing on my little bike would be appreciated. Already have flywheel puller and test light. Thanks, awfully.

Hi All, I am trying to get running a 1986 Fazer 700 and am looking for a source for affordable carb parts in the US. I just located some float needle valves at Z1 enterprises but didn't see the floats. Dealer prices are very high. I cleaned/vatted the carbs but got major overflow. I can't find a spec for float level other than the one you check after running the engine and putting the tube on the bowl drain. Anyone know the measurement if you are check the float itself with the bowl off? Thanks, Mike

Hey all! I've had my XS400 up and running well for the past several weeks now thanks to all the input here in the forum. I've got a new problem now though. Was running it the other day and the left cylinder shut down and oil started blowing out the exhaust at the head. Got all over my purty little engine too!! I figured maybe a blown head gasket or something. To make a long story short, I broke the engine down, pulled off the valve cover and the cylinder head. The cylinder head gasket (metal) looks fine. The valve cover has no gasket! Weird! Here are some things that are noteworthy: the tops of the pistons are dry, just some charring; the cylinder walls are…

I have a 1974 tx500. the bike sat with a froze motor for 16 years. I got it running but it has some problems. The biggest problem I am having is trying to find the parts to completely rebuild the motor. If any one knows where I can get the parts from p[lease let me know. I really enjoy this bike and would like to see it at its full potential.

So I picked up a 1975 xs 500b for my girlfriend thinking I could make a pretty sweet cafe racer out of it. But i am having a hell of a time fining carb parts for it. the floats in one have crumbled to pieces . so I need new floats. I found a carb kit but of course the floats do not come in the kit . does anyone know where i can find parts for this thing? Thanks Matt

I have a new xs case (NOS) which I am going to use instead of my currently (porous) one The only concern I have is that there is a machined hole under the case in front right quadrant ( as you sit on the bike) Mine has the casting, but is either had an alloy bung drifted in or it has not been machined out! there is no aparant use for this and is maybe for a future/past mod that didn't materalise with me so far? The reason I'm asking 360 owners is, what do you have there?, is it like my 400 or do you have someting else in its place. Cheers Drewps

Recently got a 74 dt125a and no battery and cables not hooked up to anything. I have brand new battery fully charged and the negative or ground cable is easy--but the positive cable is my problem. I even have the original Yamaha factory service manual and wiring diagram but it's somewhat vague--at least for me.. There is the Starter Switch--to which the green wire from the starter dynamo (from the contact points) is attached at one of the studs with washer and nut.. The positive is actually split into two parts--one red wire going into the big wire harness but the second part is a connector looking to be connected to I think the starter switch. But Where? When I gro…

So I've got this little '78 xs400 I got a few months ago, which I got for cheap. A new battery got it running again, and it's been some cleaning and refurbishing since then. Still has the "rev's hanging" thing that's common with this model (waiting until I've done a good carb clean to tweak that out), but otherwise seems to be mechanically running great. (70 mph at 6k rpm in 6th gear, and around 55 mpg, so I'm happy with that). The gas tank has a new rattlecan paint job (and of course, I manage to scratch it less then a week after putting it back on), and the seat is recovered as the original was in shreds. Sadly, all the chrome is pitted, and rus…

HEY YAMMIES... I recently purchased my first bike a 77 XS400D for $300. I picked it up off a friend who learned to ride on it a few years back and has since moved her out of the garage [into the snow] and "upgraded" to a Honda Shadow 750. The bike was not running when I got it to my garage so I drained what oil was in it, put new gasket seals in and some gas in the tank gave her an oil change and new battery... still no love. So I took the air cleaners off sprayed some ether in the carbs and she started up after a few tries of the electronic start and now kicks over in one. It is my intention to turn this into a Cafe Racer and be road ready for Spring of 2009. M…
