  2. My girlfriend bought an '83 Maxim 400 for $250 off of Craigslist and its clean overall for being 25yo, but had sat for a few years and needed the carbs cleaned. So I disassembled them and dipped them overnight and they are partially reassembled. However....... I found a PDF manual online and downloaded it. This manual has some masochistic way to set the floats which includes mounting the carbs, filling them with gas, measuring the height of gas in a tube connected to the drain screw holes, find out their wrong, remove carbs, remove bowls, adjust tangs, and over and over until their right. These carbs are a pain to remove and I'd really like to reinstall them ONCE. …

Got my new bike today. Picked it up and drove it home from the seller. Nice condition 1980 XS1100G. Got a few small problem (broken starter button with a radio shack button mounted in the fairing, high low beam switch broken, deteriorated fuse box etc). All in all it's in really nice shape and runs great (slight roughness at idle yet, but I don't think anythings been done with the carbs). I was wondering if anybody knows where I can find a service manual for these bikes? I an owners manual online but have not found a service manual yet. I'll put up pictures later this week.

I have an 1981 XS 400 and I need to replace the headlight. It is a sealed beam with 3 prongs in the back. My local Yamaha dealer wanted almost $100 for a new one. Bike Bandit had one for $70. I can't believe these are so expensive. Where can i find a cheaper replacement? Dave

  7. Hi, I must've flipped the wrong driver "the bird" - probably a mr. Murphy, 'cause I just found out, that my centre stand have quit. Rust. Wiggled the lever a bit and.. it came off. I've yet to come across a dealer, who even lists the part number and the company who sold it to "CF" back i '78 told me they'd tossed all the '360 spares a few days ago. Any help would be highly appreciated - I don't care if it's OEM, aftermarket, "bamboo" or whatnot - the side stand doesn't look like it's up to do the long-term service, it's never been intended to do. Kind regards Per Termark XS360 (1U4)

  9. Hi, hope one of You gals/guys can help. The What: Bolts for securing the caliper to the front fork: M10x35, pitch 1.25. But no specs regarding strength or material. -Oh, theres a mark on the top: "9" (or "6" - if You prefer). :-/ I've found a lot of offers on the net, but most seem undocumented, when it comes to decide, whether it's suitably strong or not. I simply don't know enough. The Why (You can skip this, unless You /really/ want to know, how I made a complete arse of myself - and maybe nearly turned myself into pulp): The day after a (successfull, albeit late!) swap of the front fork oil seals, I went my merry way to work and back. On the way back,…

I have a 1992 xj900f and have had nothing but electrick problems with it first the clock lights were working intermitently then the starter wouldnt operate from the switch. I have gone through all the connections and now the starter operates on the switch but theres no spark at the plugs anymore and the clock lights are perminantly off. What I would like to know is where to specificly look for a bad connection that would cause the bike to loose the spark.

so i changed out the brake pads on my 81 XJ550 a few months ago. and i noticed the caliper is now loose when the brake is not engaged. its like the pads are pulling back to far into the caliper. plenty of fluid and the brake activates just fine. could the pin holding it in place be worn out?

New guy here. I have a '77 dt400 that I just bought. I need the reed valves for this thing. Can someone tell me what years will work? I have a prospect for one from a '75 will it work? I'm looking at the complete valve with cage. I'd also like to find a titled frame. This thing was stripped down several years just to run in the dirt. Theres no telling where or who had the last title. I'd like to make it road worthy again if possible. Drop me a e-mail at [email protected] Sometimes the filters at work prevent me from accessing this forum. Thanks

After picking at this project all summer, finally had the vehicle inspection this Saturday (passed, no issues). (Thanks to all for input for various and sundry parts). While the the bike was on the trailer, ran by the insurance agent and got the bike registered and insured (6 months). Back home, put the plate on, added abit more gas, and fired her up...ran fine for 4 kilometres, enough to get me down to the bottom of the mountain, pulled in clutch to shift down for a sharp corner....cable broke!!! On the cell to a neighbour, he came in his pickup, and we got the bike back home. Clutch cable was the only control I did'nt change, as the cable was replaced shortly bef…

Group, Have a 74 TY250 with the stock T... carb. Have gotten the bike to the point where it runs and idles fine but.... It will not start unless I squirt gas into the carb. If you leave it sit for more than about 10 minutes you have to repeat the gas squirting process. Once it has started it runs fine and if I stop it will re-start just fine. Carb has been cleaned and re-assembled. Taken apart several times but never any dirt inside. Float setting was off when I got the bike, I'm guessing at it's setting. Appreciate any thoughts on this. Alan
