Whats it cost these days, most of the brightwork is in ok nick just some light pitting, you could call it patina but the rear mudguard was painted in the past. Obviously if that is sorted and goes on looking like a new pin the rest will look shit so would be looking at doing it all. The rear guards rot like politicians so just having a solid one is a blessing. It should be chromed but have never even looked at chroming stuff. Is it possible on mildly corroded/ratty parts like the rear muddy or cost prohibitive. Its going to be a rider not a poser.

What do we think, I have started doing up my H#nda 175, I have it down to a bare frame. Do I blast and powder coat or strip it the old fashioned way with some elbow grease then paint. Its never going to win a concourse event or do more than couple of hundred miles a year, just be my nice toy. Never win a race but its got enough go to put a big smile on your face, brakes that will take it right off again though. The wife and I fancy taking it to next years classic tt, the full 70's thing. Paint is cheap but needs a bit of effort, powder cost money and time, looking at a month for either of the two near me, although it may be less but they wont commit. …

hello ladies and gents, new to this website and this forum. I'm looking for advice from people with more experience than me regarding engine trouble on my classic dt125lc. mines a classic thats a nut and bolt rebuild including a powder coated frame done by the previous owner. recently she was stolen, after finding her abandoned and performing a few repairs on the sliced up ignition cables she ran fine for about a day. now I have a issue where if I get above 6 thousand rpm she begins to splutter like crazy, sometimes its intermittent but that last few days its been almost constant. I have drained the tank, cleaned the carb 4 times and removed and checked all the jets aswel…

Hello. I recently purchased an xs750, 1977, and am in the process of trying to get it running. The carbs are completely missing and I am buying parts hearer and there to assemble the missing assembly. A few people I know are telling me that the shaft drive on these made turning difficult. While I am not making any changes until I've gotten it riding and determine for myself whether this is needed or not, I cant help hit wonder how difficult it would be to convert this bike to Chain drive would be. Does anyone have an idea on this? Thanks!

Hoping someone can help me with compression here. I just acquired a YL1 that had been sitting for over 20 years. Rebuilt carbs, replaced battery, replaced petcock, sealed tank, replaced plugs and changed all fluids. Started right up after 2-3 kicks and after adjusting idle and air screws it seems to idle ok. I am able to put it gear but it just has no pick-up when trying to take off. If I pull hard on the throttle while in 1st gear it seems to not bog so much. I tested compression of both sides with plugs out, throttle open and engine warm on a cheap compression tester. Got 60 compression of both sides. Next I put some oil into the spark plug openings and tested and now I…

Morning all I’ve introduced myself in the newbies section but my name’s James and I’ve just got myself an unmolested 1986 V50 ?M... 7,000m and been stood since 1994. Just passed it’s MOT. Its to get me from North to south London on a daily basis. Wish me luck! Just a couple of questions if anyone can help... (I’m no mechanic so please keep any answers basic ++ so I stand a chance) 1986 - Two speed gearbox. From reading, this is the restricted model? Presumably, there’s no easy way to get a bit more grunt out of this model? Not too bothered as my entire 10 mile route to work is 20mph speed limit anyway. What is the hi…

Hi folks! Very new to the forum, but i am trying to find some information on these silly little bikes! I bought the bike last year to have a bit of fun with but have only just had a chance to get on with it (baby, daily use bike stolen and torched, house move, normal excuses!). The bike had been off the road since '88, previous owner had put a new piston in it and started it via gravity fed fuel line. The tank was completely thick with sludge and the fuel tap knackered. So i cleaned out the tank and bought a new tap, stripped the carb and adjusted it, cleaned out the oil pump and she fired straight away, crazy stuff! It is a 3 speed semi-auto, not pedal and i belie…

Hi all hope your well and keeping busy. I have been working on a new project for a few months now and would value your opinions. The bike is a 1981 Yamaha XS250 which is not too exciting but the thing that attracted me was its only done 52 miles from new ! After collecting the bike I changed the plugs, put fresh petrol in and hooked up a battery.......it started and ran perfectly. I then switched it off and took it to pieces completely, every last nut, washer and bolt. All the chrome has or will be renewed, the frame blasted and re-sprayed the forks overhauled with stanchion's chromed and reground. The engine cleaned and polished and the electrics cleaned and checked…

Hello Everyone, I recently purchased a 1975 Yamaha TX500A (I think) and I've got a few questions because although I'm not new to motorcycling...I am new to vintage motorcycles. I want to begin by providing my VIN: 371208643. The titled year of the bike is 1975, it's in fair condition (needs a lot of TLC and I don't have keys for it). I was looking through shspowersports.com (I use them most often) for a new ignition/gas cap/seat lock that come with keys and the first thing I notice is that there is no TX500A in 1975 so I checked the sticker on the frame and the bike was produced in 1974 (expected). Is it a common issue that the year on the title is incorrect or i…

Hi all I am nearing the end of my build and I need to get the paintwork re-sprayed. Took the parts to a local painter who upon checking said the paint was a "candy red" but possibly mixed with silver. This was a process done at the factory and would be difficult to reproduce. Does anyone have any ideas please. The bike is a 1981 xs250 uk spec.

Hey guys, Novice motorbike owner here. A few weeks back I was practicing riding, and stalled one too many times, where it wouldn't start anymore. Not even lights would turn on when I moved the key to ignition. I tried troubleshooting today just trying to start it normally. I turned the key and the lights actually turned on. I took a multimeter to the battery and it said 12.06 Volts, and with the lights one ~11.5 volts. I tried starting and it would crank with the *click* sound, and not start. Then the third time I tried starting, I may have held the engine run switch on too long, then something started smoking and heard a "pow" sound. There is some smo…

Hi I am trying to order new con rod / crankshaft bearings for my 82 XS400 SJ (sohc) engine. The bearings are orderd by cross referencing stamping numbers on the case ,crankshaft and connecting rod.I can find the stamping numbers on every thing but the connecting rod. Does anybody know if they are stamped on or printed on? It almost looks like there might be something printed on but I can't read it. Thanks! ps any body know where to get con rod bolts?
