Hi I'm a new member having just bought a 1977 XS 750 Special imported from Colorado. I have a leak on the master cylinder, the diaphragm looks the worse for wear so have ordered a replacement but the leak seems to be coming from the joint between the plastic reservoir and the cylinder itself. Just seems to be a direct joint between plastic and metal. Should there be a seal between the two and if not should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi. Does anybody know if I can get authenticating document for my recently bought XS1100 Martini. Although I am Sure it is genuine I would like it verified. I wondered if it is possible to get this from the frame and engine numbers. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Best regards and keep safe, Steve.

Good Morning / Afternoon, I have picked up a non running 72 G7S and have also purchased the Service Manual. I wanted to do a crankcase oil change, flush the gas tank and oil reservoir and fill with new oil and gas. The operators manual for the crankcase just states either a #30 weight for the crankcase or 10w-30w (North Carolina) and preferably Yamaha Autolube 2-stroke cycle oil. What do you recommend for modern equivalents? I assume this goes in the crankcase and oil reservoir? Frank

Hey all. I have a Dt175mx, apparently. There's no frame number as its come off when I tried taking the layers of paint off with sanding it... 🙈 I have the engine number 1F9006545. Can anyone tell me what I actually have as the flywheel on the magneto is missing its magnets and it seems to be for a 50 from the numbers on it. I have pictures but I'm not sure how to upload them... Thanks!

  6. Started by Solara,

Trying to get a spark and crank with start button. Gauges and lights only light up with main switch in center position.. is this the run position? Also, is it necessary for the turn signal wiring to be complete to get a spark and power to the solenoid? There is a solid yellow wire that went to the dimmer, does this need 12v for the bike to start? Horn does not work either. Please attempt to help me. I am using an aftermarket left handlebar switch. From the harness I have Pink- horn - I have power here Blue/Yellow- headlight dimmer switch power input - I have power here Green- headlight low beam Yellow/black- headlight high beam Yellow- unknow…

  7. Started by Brett Morris,

Hi, I'm currently restoring a '79 DT175MX. Sometime during its life the bike has been converted it to a dirt bike and the bracket where the stand attaches to removed. I have sourced a stand and spring and now need to fabricate a bracket which I can weld onto the frame. I would like to make as close to the original as possible and was wondering if anyone could take some close up pictures (ideally with a ruler in shot for size references) which I can use to fabricate a bracket Any help much appreciated Cheers

I have purchased a 1981 YB 100 in a fairly sorry state. I believe that somebody has started to try and convert it into a Fizzy and has cut off the brackets that hold the side panels in place. The bike has matching Engine and Frame numbers so I would like to convert it back to standard, I have purchased a Parts book and a manual but I cannot find any illustrations of the said bracketry. Could any body supply me with Photos / Illustrations of both sides of the frame please? Thanks, Tony.

  10. started working on my moms old bike cleaned everything up and started with pulling the carb to clean it however the more we worked on it the more issues happened the carb is cracked and we are missing a needle valve wich finding parts for this thing is very hard or in are case impossible so i was wondering if there are any carburetor listings for this model anyone knows of OR if there is a good alternative carb that would work with it.

My 1980 XT250 has alloy rims. Gold anodised i believe. Not bad condition, no major dents or gouges but as im restoring the bike to ‘near new’ I’d like to do something with them. I’ve been told by a wheel restorer re-anodising would be difficult and advised to powder coat or find new rims (which seems impossible). The rear is an awkward 17” devil and hard to find a new rim for. The front not so difficult. Would an 18” fit? I know there are some xt owners on the site, any advice other than stick with what you got? Does powder coat risk chipping when fitting tyres? cheers Mark

Hey guys, I have just joined after perusing your forum for many answers over the last couple of months. Love the forum and the great advice going on here! I have recently inherited a 'recently running' 1983 XS250 special, to add to my collection of not yet running XS's. It's the DOHC YICS model. I started with the usual stuff, ultrasonic cleaned the carbs, inline filter, new plugs, new oil. It WILL NOT START. unless I spray it with 'start ya bastard' an ether spray, then it fires instantly, I have to keep the idle speed at 2000+ RPM and it will run all day, as soon as I let go of the throttle, she dies. Even when warm, it won't start again until I spray it…

Hello All, After 3 years of owning my DT 175 E I have decided to start work on it properly. The bike will not start even though it has fuel,a good spark, timing is spot on and crankcase seals have been replaced. This was not my main problem. I can only get second gear which is why I threw a cover over it 3 years ago.I have now split the crankcases to have a look at the gearbox which all looks o.k,but I have a question. There are 3 selector forks. One is on a shaft on it own and it moves on the shaft. The other two are on a separate shaft of which one fork moves and the other does not.Is this usual. Also can you post pictures on this forum ,if so how. …

My 14 year old son and I just picked up a 1975 Yamaha Chappy LB50. It is mostly complete, so we are planning to have father son project to get it running. Wondering; 1-where it is possible to get parts? (plastics like battery cover, foot rest area, seat vinyl etc) 2- What parts are interchangeable with other bikes (ie cables, carbs, muffler....) 3- I have downloaded the "Owners manual" but is there a decent more in depth repair manual to look for? Thanks in advance, we are looking forward to this project

  16. Started by Canada,

I just got an old chappy 50cc. I cleaned the carb really well, replaced the spark plug. When I kick it over I HAVE SPARK! ANd there is good compression. However it does not start? I even tried pouring a little bit of gas directly into the carb. Nothing. I tried taking oit the spark plug, puring a tiny bit if gas in there and quickly replacing the plug and kicking it over......I thought that would at least ignote that little bit of gas, but nothing? I DO NOT have a battery installed, the toggle kill switch on the right side handle bar I tried all 3 positions and no change. I am surprised, especially if there is spark and fuel in the chamber, should it…

  18. 1980 400 XS. I have a seperate five wire regulator and three wire rectifier. If I want to replace both with one unit do I just wire the old rectifier (three white, one black, one red), to new combo unit and then old regulator, ( black, green and brown), to the new unit? So I am just rewiring two units into one. Thanks for reading. There are only two wires for the regulator on the new combo unit, the old one has three. Do I ground the green and splice the bnlack and brown?

  19. Started by Foose,

Hi everyone! I finally found the one that got away from me two years ago at Mid-Ohio...a 1970 G6S...rare little thing for the states, and fairly similar to the FS1 for those who are familiar. my oil injection pump was shot from the get go, so i took a chance on one from ebay and it seems solid as can be. so today i removed the oil injection pump, and tried to install the new one, but it seems to get hung up on something about .125" away from sealing to the case. if i kick the bike over, i can see the gear turning, so i know the crank is engaging with the pump, at least to a certain extent, but no matter what i try i cant get it on there! so …
