hi all just had a quick look around on the net but unable to find any relevant info... i have a yamaha fazer 600 (1999), i started it this morning and noticed petrol pouring from the joint at the bottom of the tail can! upon further investigation i found the petrol has also become mixed with the oil and there is also petrol inside the airbox!! there was also petrol coming from the carb breather pipe. my intial thoughts are it may be something related to the piston rings, although im not certain as i would have thought this would have been noticed earlier (i.e. blue smoke from exhaust) and this seems to have happened suddenly. are there any common faults tha…

hello, I have just bought a genuine rear carrier for my Gen1 Fazer thou but it has come with no fitting instructions. I can't offer it up to the bike until next friday when it comes out of the garage where it is having some jobs done on it. The rack is straightforward enough, but there are 4 aluminium spacer thing, I guess these fit in the spaces left when the grab rails are removed. But in these spacers there is a 6mm threaded hole and i dont know what they are for. If anyone has a gen1 thou with a yamaha carrier on please can they let me know. I know I will be able to work it out fine when I get my bike back but like any kid with a new toy I want to kn…

I have a chilton's manual, followed the directions, and it just didn't happen. The bike sat for about a year and used to have a fuel leak. The old tank was shot to crap and full of sparkling (no joke) rust. We replaced the tank, battery and spark plugs. It was running GREAT for a while. Now it does the dreaded over-rev and won't come down. Sprayed carb cleaner all over, nothing. Figure some fleck of rust is stuck somewhere in the carbs messing them up, and I would just love to clean those suckers out if I could just get the stinking things off. Disclaimer, the following descriptions will have a lot of "thingies", as I am no mech. I removed the tank, and loosed the scre…

After years of suffering a flat spot between 4-5,000 revs its been cured by a 2p bit of wire . Following a previous posting I got a reply from Sniffer who I am now forever in debt to He put me in touch with a guy called Shane at B&B Motorcycles Barnsley 01226 391557 who explained that on the large mulit pin socket on the ECU there is a empty pin (top row right hand side) simply fix a wire into this empty socket and run it to earth,he battery will do fine, Then switch the ignition on and off three times this remaps the ECU or activates a dormant map in the ECU either way it works a treat! The power is now smooth all the way from tick over up with no stu…

hi all, i recently got a 1986 yamaha fz600... not fzr600... what I want to do is make the tail "modernized" so to speak. It looks really old in the back and I know with the fzr's you can directly bolt on an r1 tail but i haven't read up on anything for the fz600. I was on bikepics.com the other day and saw 2 86 fz600s that had a tail conversion. one looked like a direct replacement with another bike and one looked customized. I emailed both but got no replies. any help would be great. ps- i am thinking of just trimming it

Hi all. A few months ago I was having troubles with my 1991 XT600EB. It wouldn't start - ended up just being a bad coil. In the process of going over everything I pulled the carbs and cleaned them out good. I took care to write down settings, etc., but somewhere along the way the pilot screw setting must have gotten goofed up. The bike starts and will stay running at idle with the choke on until it gets closed about 2/3's in. When it's at speed it's fine, but when I pull the clutch in it will stall. From what I've read I'm understanding it to be lean. The bike is getting hot and backfiring in the carbs too. Again, I'm guessing I don't have the pilot screw set right. I've …

Hi On my sr125 there is an oil seal that is beginning to fail behind the front small sprocket. In order to replace this and therefore stop the oil dripping would i have to dismantle the engine or is it possible to force it out and force a new one in? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks Rob

Hi. I was wondering if anyone here can help me. I am trying to find out what size bearings are used for the steering. Also wondering if there if there are any specs for the swing arm bushes as there are no longer spares available, and I don't have the old ones, so looking to have them made. Any help appreciated, thanks. Graham.

Hi, Strange problem with my rev counter in that the needle has gone below the zero stop. With the ignition off it hangs in the middle of the dial. Switch on it the moves to below the stop then it cant move any more, Do i need to strip the dial and just lever the needle above the stop or is it electroncally adjusted on a pendulum. Cheers Chris.

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone knew what size fork seal went onto the 1987 Yamaha YB100? I bought a pair from Wemoto, and the said 26MM Forks 26x37x10.5. However they seem a little tight. A mechanic told me they would be tight to fit, but this seems a bit too tight. Motorcycle Products sell a pair for the yb100, but they are 27mm x 39mm x 10.5mm. Does anyone know if the 26 are right, and i should just be trying harder? Or is 27 in fact the correct size, and they should slide on relatively easily? Once again, thanks for any help and advice atocp

Hello Your help would be appreciated, I have a 2005 R1 when starting from cold it ticks over at 1000 rpm,as the temp rises the revs also rise giving me a tick over of about 2750.I have looked at the idle adjuster and this is fully wound back so will not decrease the revs. The adjusters on the linkages have not moved as the paint dots all align thank you in advance BERGY

Can anyone give me some info on the possible consequences of over tightening the rear shock pre load adjuster on a Dragatar 650? I think I've managed to go 'one click too far' (!) when adjusting on the firmer end, and now the adjuster won't turn back the other way (bugger!). At the very least, is it safe in this condition? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello all, please let us introduce ourselves,we are the replacement exhaust company Motad Ltd,we have been making exhaust systems for nearly 40 years now and are based in the West midlands. We have been approached by a guy who is restoring a FZR1000 Genesis (non-exup) for a replacement set of downpipes manufactured from stainless steel.Obviously to make a one off means the costs go up because of the development and jigging costs, but if we can get 5-10 more people wanting these pipesets then we can cover those costs ourselves. Are there any owners/members who would be interested in a set? Cost wise you are looking at £300+vat.Give us a call if anyone is interested.
