Having an issue with my 86 Radian. Starting from a stop, it seems no matter how easy you let off the clutch and roll on the throttle it wants to just take off. Feels like it sputters and then just goes. What would make it so sticky?

Hey guys, hope someone else has had this headache before so I can learn. My 86 FZ600 is difficult to keep running - 1: It either idles around 3,000 rpm or if I turn the idle screw down it'll drop down to 1,000 but die shortly after. 2: The bike will continue running if I remove either or both spark plugs on the outside of the engine (1 and 4) but will die when either of the plugs on the inside (2 or 3) is removed. 3: Subsequently the bike will not start if plug #2 or #3 is unplugged; however it will start if only #1 and/or #4 are unplugged. 4: On the road - the bike will die if let to idle more than a few seconds (stop signs are a real pain with this problem)…

ive recently purchased a 1979 xs400 that had been sitting 5 years. i cleaned out the carbs and flushed the brake system and got her running smoothly again using the kickstarter only do to a missing start button. it started up the first couple of kicks and i'd been driving it round my yard until i could get my endorsement. i then recently replaced the button and started it several times electrically. but then it made a loud click and a sound much like a handful of quarters in a tiny little dryer. i diagnosed the problem as being the starter gear being worn down. when i went to start the bike again with the kickstart, and it also wouldnt turn the motor over. ive never worke…

I looked thru the search options and didn't find my answer. Problem is I can not engage the clutch . Start it in nuetral with clutch handle pulled in, Put in 1st, kills the engine . Naturally I tried the cable adjust with no luck. For the clutch adjustment, the book says loosen the lock nut and etc. I can't loosen the lock nut because it feels spring loaded . I hesitate to force the nut too much against the spring resistance thinking I'll hear a loud BOING and then have bigger problems. ??????

Hey Guys! So I've been lurking & reading other/older posts but feel like I should just ask myself: Recently purchased an 86 FZ600, got to ride it once then it died 3 times on the way home. Bought a multimeter - battery is good and its charging (when it runs). Removed and thoroughly cleaned the carbs. Fresh gas and fuel filter. Still nothing. Will not start, but the few times it did, its dies soon after. There's NO SPARK. My first guess is the ignition coils, but it seems like there's too many possibilities. Basically I don't have a lot of money to just throw around, I'd like to know how/where to test and narrow it down. Any he…

Well a few weeks ago my bike started to run sluggish and cut out a lot, so me and my cousin took apart the carboreter, cleaned it out and stuck it back on, the bike ran fine, till the next day it just wouldnt start up. We did the same thing, cleaned it out but noticed no petrol was in the carboreter, so a few days later we stripped the bike down and found the vacuum pump on the tank, took it off and checked it out, works ok and all the pipes are fine, but no petrols getting through and the piston chamber is bone dry. Anyone know how to sort this or know whats up, cause its giving me a major headache and is really bugging me not having my bike! (Sorry if i'…

I am rebuilding an 88 FZ600. When i Got the bike it had no air filters or airbox. I have bought Independent cone filters for it, but i noticed something, a breather tube connects the two inner intake manifolds, but the two outer ones also have a hose, but with a three way connector linking it, there was nothing connected to this when i bought it, and i can't find it anywhere in the manual! What the heck does this thing connect to?!?!?!?! does it malfunction if it is left unconnected?

Hi. Is it possible to connect an oil cooler to my air cooled engine? I have a 1982 single cylinder Yamaha sr 250. I'm using this engine in an off road buggy. Here is a pic of my oil system: Here is the only connection point I know about: My concern is that if I connect an oil cooler here, my cylinder head will now longer get the correct oil flow because some will be going through the cooler. What do you think?

Hey I just bought an old '88 FZ600 and revamped it. Needless to say the bike had no owner's manual along with air filters, and no starter solenoid, among others.... I opened the oil plug on top of the clutch cover and saw no shining of liquid of any kind. I Added Two Quarts of 10W-40, started it, it ran and revved great then i turned it off to go running inside and scream with joy... I strted it again when i was calm and now it has no throttle response, and if anything revs high and slowly yet steadily falls down to a stall. Is it the oil i put in? What type of oil does this bike take? How Much should i Put in? If not the oil any tips on what it could be? …
