I was wondering if there is good replacement option for the gas tank on my 81 Exciter as mine is far too gone for repair and I dare not attempt to make my own. I've heard it is possible to use tanks from different bikes with little to no modification (SR500) but lack the parts to check for sure. Any input would be appreciated! Additional thought, any tanks from the virago line possibly fit as well?? !help!

I have an FZ1 2006 with only 2500 miles which will coughs and backfires when running. At first the engine would cough occasionally then be ok. This has got more and more frequent and now will hardly run at all and kangeroos along the road. The bike has had diagnostic run by a garage but apparently the result was that everything is ok. The bike runs ok at tickover and revs ok but as soon as the engine is under load, that is when the problem starts. I was wondering if it could be a problem with the air induction system. There are two rubber hoses from the rocker cover which connect to the "AIR CUT VALVE ASSY" (name taken from the yamaha microfiche) and another hose go…

My uncle's bike (1978 XS400) hasn't been turned on for about 2 years. It's in great cosmetic shape; only 3,000 miles; no rust. It was not stored properly in Chicago. It would not start. Replaced the battery, it would crank but not turn over. Then we cleaned the carbs and it started only with the kick start (after a few tries). It started once with the electric starter. The problem now is that it idles weird. We adjusted it to idle around 1,500 RPM but when we roll the throttle (in neutral), the RPM would stay high (around 4-5k RPM) and would not go back down to 1,500 RPM. As we adjust the idle screw, the RPM would drop then stall. NOW it won't even start, nor would it …

Hi guys,I am new to this group.Recently I purchased a 1985 TY350.Firstly I would like to know if therre is anywhere I can get a diagram of the gearbox & workings broken down?I have purchased the workshop manual but it doesn't seem to have anything about the gearbox in it. Also,it seems to have a bit of a rattle while idling. It sounds to me if it has either piston slap or maybe a big-end gone?Is this a problem with them or are they just a rattley bike at idle?I am not a mechanic by any means.Thanks.

I bought a 98 600 grizzly back in march and still havent gotten it running right. ive put 1000 bucks into it in parts alone, new clutch, coil, carb kit, etc, etc... the problem i am continuously having is the bike backfires and quits after it has heatened up and been riden for a few minutes.... after waiting a few minutes it will start up and run for a few more minutes before quiting again.... ive redone the carb, flushed out all the lines, changed coils, new battery, and so on. i dont think the cdi is bad, but i am running out of parts to change. …

Hi to evrybody. I have bought an '87 yamaha fz750. I'm happy with bike but... on idle won't run fine.. I have try with screw that is for idle setup bud when I set right number of rpm anfter a more gas... rpm wont get down to regular rpm. Or... it takes about 10 sec. to goes from 3000 to 1000 rpm. This gay that have sold bike to me have tell me that there was fuel in tank during winter period. So reading topics on this forum... i have realised that celaning carburetor is right thing to do. My question is... can I do this alone, without any expirience in this. I have expirience in car, and I'm a student od mehanichal faculty, so... teory is not problem. Can s…

Hi, I have a 83 Yamaha Virago 500 that I just picked up and it won't run. The starter clutch was bad and it had been siting. The guy I got it from said it ran until the starter clutch went out, but I have no way to know for sure. I replaced the starter clutch. When i put the flywheel back on I checked to make sure the cotter key was in place and everything lined up. I then pulled the carbs to clean and they really did not look too bad, but are now well cleaned. The bike still would not run. It really does not sound like it is trying to start. I replaced the spark plugs and set the gap to spec. The spark does not look real strong, but I would think it would be enough to ru…

Ok gang, I'm trying to get my 1979 XS400SG running again and here's one of the things I need to sort out: I recently installed a new battery and cleaned the carbs out. I need to check / reset the basic idle but that being said, the bike is very hard to start when cold. So far, the only way I can get it started is to squirt copius amounts of starting fluid in the carbs with the air cleaners removed. Once the engine fires I have to keep the revs up fairly high or it will stall. After letting it warm up for a while I can very gradually drop the revs down, by a combination of putting the choke back in and turning in the throttle adjuster near the hand control. Even then it…
